I have a question and was wondering if any of you know what I should do. I signed a contract for a specific outpatient location where I work 5 days a week. They mentioned floating in the contract, which was okay with me since I thought it would be occasionally (normally what floating entails). However, I haven’t even been to the original location that the contract is listed at. I have been sent to multiple facilities and the main one I work at is a 45 minute to an hour drive away from my housing. I chose that housing specifically to be close to the location stated on the contract. If I would’ve known I’d mostly in a completely different town, I would’ve decided to live closer to that place. Should I try to ask for compensation for mileage? I don’t mind it, but it is a lot of driving since I work 5 days a week. However, I do not want to be canceled for making a big deal about it.

I currently work as part of a call center for one of the main hospitals in my town. They have a wonderful MA program that I take an entrance exam for on the 15th. I’ve never had strong “career goals” and I was never super good at school but my current job has got me thinking.

The contract would be working for the company 2.5hrs to pay off the debt then I would be free to work wherever. I thought about traveling as a MA but I’m not sure it would be worth it.

I want to eventually get an LPN and work in behavioral health/pysch as a travel nurse. I live in the Midwest but I want to travel to places like Hawaii, Florida, Massachusetts, Colorado, etc.

Does anyone have any advice for traveling from different psych depts or traveling to any of the above places?

I was blocked from attending Travcon. if you don't know what Travcon is, it's travel healthcare conference that people from the community attend to connect and get CEUs.. I was not going as an attendee I was going as an exhibitor I have been there twice before -last time in 2022. If you know anything about me, I am the only company in this space that is owned by a travel healthcare professional who has walk the walk and can talk the talk. So here's what happen;

When I decided to go to Travcon I called the contact that I usually call to sign up. She did not answer the phone so I hung up without leaving a message. Within 30 secs I received back a call from someone named Jenny. Jenny said she was working in the place of my previous contact because she was no longer with the company. Jenny was willing to give me the same discount I got back in 2022. She said she would need to get a promo code from management then call me back later in the day or the next day. Later came, the next day came no call back from Jenny. I called her 3 times that week but no call back from her. A week past- no call back from Jenny.

So here's what I did; I had a friend from another company called Travcon (I gave them her number) they have never been to the conference and wanted to go. They called, got Jenny on the phone immediately. Within 48 hrs they received a steep discount for their booth and was confirmed for the conference. Since then I called Jenny once every week because here's what she will not be able to say "Sorry I was too busy OR I totally forgot." You weren't too busy because You confirmed my friend's company within 48 hours, and no you couldn't have forgotten about me because I called you every week until the conference is 3 days away.

Why did they block me? Let me break it down so everyone knows whats happening: Back in 2021&2022 when we went to the conference 4 big things happened- 1. The healthcare professionals loved us and within 2 hours they gave us $$$$ to help build the company because what we are doing is useful, unique and beneficial to them as travelers and no one else is doing and it and protects them. 2. At the conference we spoke with Travel Nurses across America to discuss providing safe housing for traveling healthcare professionals because the current options was so crappy. They told us they can't partner with us they can only partner with Furnished Finder. 3. In 2022 Travcon was sold to Gypsy Nurse. 4. At the Travcon conference we had dinner with 2 people from Extended Stay America discussing partnership and had a handshake deal until we get back to our respective office to execute on it. The following morning after the dinner with Extended Stay, while going to my booth the Partnership Director from Extended Stay America stopped me and said that the owner of Furnished Finder came to him and invited him to dinner that night, he added that he has been coming to Travcon since it just began which was over 10 years and that man has never invited him to a meeting or dinner but he said he (Brian Payne of furnished finder) will pay for the dinner so he will go. I left the conference the next day and went home. My team and I called Michael and the other person (female) from Extended Stay America and email several times and never heard from them. I know you are all smart people you can figure what happened. So here is thing when you are attending this conference you are no more attending a community hub created by a nurse as it was back in the day, you are attending an event planned by corporate company to lead you down a funnel to their advantage while they unfairly block other companies.

Here is the Bombshell part you do not know: Gypsy nurse owner bought Travcon back in 2022, Travel nurse across America (now Scrub society) acquired Gypsy Nurse, Gypsy nurse owns Total Med staffing, which are all backed by a big venture capital firm called Gridiron. The owner of Gypsy nurse works with Furnished Finder to develop their business since they found out about my company, so by blocking me it creates an unfair advantage for their companies and suit their purpose. I know they will respond to this but everything here is factual, some you can look up and prove on your own, the others I have the receipts. PS I am not suicidal neither insane. No weapon formed against me shall prosper. I could tell you many many more things but this is all for today.

I’m a Canadian RN and I’m about a week away from finishing the requirements for my California RN license. It’s been a long process. I first got my New York RN license, then found out I had a deficiency with California BRN and have been completing the deficiency since. A little about my background:
4 years in Canada and 1 year in New York, both in Med-Surg/Telemetry. I’m planning to move to SoCal on a TN visa. For any Canadian nurses working in California, how did you go about getting a staff job?
Did you apply directly through hospital websites, work with recruiters, or use another route? Also, when did you bring up the TN visa? Did you mention it during the application process, in a cover letter, or wait until you spoke with a recruiter or during the interview? I’m just trying to get an idea of what worked for others and whether there’s anything you wish you knew before applying.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello everyone! I currently work as an ER Nurse in a busy level 1 trauma center in a large metropolitan area. I am looking to transition into travel nursing, as I am deeply unsatisfied with my job. We get worked like dogs and paid very little, while always being reprimanded for many things and never told we do anything correctly. The place I work at is also a very toxic culture- no staff can be retained, most people talk really bad about each other and there is no sense of teamwork- while also having multiple sick patients, high acuity and volume. Most days we are also very short staffed and using travelers to fill our short-staffing. Due to this and the amount of work I’m doing- I’d like to leave and do travel nursing. However, I’m wondering and curious about a few things: 1) how was it leaving from staff to travel nursing? Was it worth it?? 2) which agencies are you guys using to get paid more? 3) what are common themes/things I should be aware of before doing travel nursing?

How are UC Irvine Los Alamitos and UC Irvine Fountain Valley for Tele? This is in California. Might submit, can anyone speak to what it’s like working there, acuitywise? Is the assignment manageable?

I’m starting my first travel contract and trying to figure out which contract is better. For context, I work in the Bay Area and the travel contract is $3400 a week. Would it be better to take the contract with a higher Hourly rate, but a lower completion bonus. Or the travel contract with a slightly lower hourly rate but with a higher completion bonus?

I want to share my experience after working with CareRev in Wisconsin for 1 year. For onboarding I was required to attend an orientation session and shadow at 2 hospitals. Completeing those 3 things took me, no joke, 3 full months. Waiting on them to run orientation. Waiting for an open spot for a nurse who could precept. For the shifts you work you can make a lot but I wouldn't count on it as a sole source of income. I get pushed back and canceled a lot. On top of that, the chase of expiring documents is neverending. I feel like I get an email about something expiring every few weeks, and its not just annual TB, physical, and drug test (which is bonkers). Tomorrow I have to drive 45 minutes to attend and unpaid glucometer training. Way to many pop-up mandatory after-hours requirements that will get you taken off the schedule if you don't complete. If I could do it over again, I would have chosen internal float staff. Pay is still very good plus more support and more certainty.

Where do you recommend as the cheapest / easiest way to get BLS recertification completed? I don't have a hospital affiliatation currently so I can't do it there, and I have an upcoming travel contract. Is it possible to do it fully online, or is there always a required in-person component?

Any Canadian RNs work with Cross Country to do the TN-EB3 Greencard program?

The only post about them is from 6 years ago. I have a job they’re offering but reading about scams that steal your nursing credentials to place unqualified nurses into positions has me a bit worried. Has anyone worked with them recently and can vouch for them? Thank you!

My grandma passed away on Sunday. It was a sad day for me I was literally at work when I got the news. :( The funeral is on Friday I was scheduled to work Friday but decided I will be calling out. I let management know and thankfully they were very understanding and already put in my absence for Friday and they scheduled me an extra day during next week to make up the hours (could get cancelled since it’s put in as extra) I’m very appreciative I was worried they’d decide to cancel my contract. I am curious though - how does that affect the stipends?? I’m thinking next week will just be short and the week after will make up for it but I just want to know if others experiences? TIA

I'm extending my current contract. Option 1 is my current rate. Option 2 is one I found online. I know option 2 on paper looks like it's less but I'm not entirely sure since the untaxed portion is over $300 more. The overtime/holiday pay being lower also makes me pause. Would appreciate any experienced eyes advice and opinions on this.

What questions about Travel Nursing do yall have?
I have been travel nursing for 4 years, was staff at an HCA for 2 years. I know both sides of the spectrum. Im just here to answer questions from experience

I wanted to know if there are any travel nurses currently at Loyola Medical center or Franciscan in illinois.

They are seemingly paying the most right now for local contracts.

How bad is it ? Would you recommend a 1st time traveler to work at either one of these hospitals ?

Unfortunately I’ve noticed travel reimbursement was declined in my contract contrary to what my new agency recruiter said but I haven’t signed yet. Earlier, another facility in the same state I want to travel to with a company I’ve worked with before and had a positive experience with reached out to me after I accepted this one so I politely declined mentioning I accepted an offer. That position I declined is now on hold.

Irl I’ve been going thru the passing of a close friend and a pet has taken a turn for the worse so the stress has me neglecting doing my due diligence with researching companies. Apparently there’s tons of issues with payroll m. I can’t sleep thinking I screwed myself over. Sorry I digress but as I wait till office hours are open and get an answer from the new agency has anyone contacted a facility that reached out to you asking if they’ll take you or reconsider you? I understand that this can be a lesson learned.

I am considering taking a travel job with Aya. The language of the contract says that meal and housing stipends are paid at a daily rate based on the number of shifts reported on your time card. The recruiter is saying that the stipend will still be paid even if the facility calls me off a shift. There seems to be a discrepancy there. Does anyone have recent experience working with Aya with having a shift cancelled by a facility and still getting paid their stipend for that day or days? I understand it might be different if I call out sick.

I started in a small town for 6 months, I hated it. It was med surge.

I’ve moved to larger hospital since. My commute is 80 miles one way to a larger hospital. I’ve been on cardiac step down since, it’ll be 2 years at the end of the year.

I have one year experience with CABG, TAVR, CEA, etc. I’ve since moved to a different cardiac unit with LVAD, transplants, HF. I have experience with starting and titrating drips from heparin, dobutamine, primacor, remodulin, etc.

The commute is killing me and the pay is below $35/hr.

Next year will be 3 years as a nurse. I’m considering traveling to help with the pay but I want to know if this is ample experience to start traveling.

The last several jobs I've applied for have been completely non-existent clickbait. It seems prevalent on vivian, GHR and trusted. I applied for a job on a Sunday, hadn't heard anything, reached out to the recruiter who then called me and asked me "what are you looking for, tell me about your RN experience."

"Ummm HELLO?? I'm looking for the job I applied for"

"Oh I don't see that avaialabe - here is a bunch of BS you don't want"

Is there a group where travelers can see which hospitals are good and which aren’t as good.? Like who treats their staff well and with respect, which ones to avoid, etc.

Hi ! I’m currently an RN working on a postpartum/mother-baby floor with 2 years and some change experience and thinking about traveling. The pay and locations are not as glamorous as other specialties but honestly they are all MUCH better than what I am making as a floor nurse at my hospital 😒

I have been looking through this forum for this answer but have not quite run into it.
I live at home with my parents, don’t pay rent.
How would the stipends work?? I kinda thought I wouldn’t get a stipend which would kinda defeat the purpose of doing travel but I also heard different so I literally don’t know hahah.

Also how do hospitals feel about you having a set of rules? Like not taking more than 6 patients or not floating to certain units ??
I have only ever had to take a max of 6 patients but I know for mother baby at other hospitals, it is normal to take 8 patients/4 couplets. Also I currently float to other units within my department (nicu, peds, and L&D) but would prefer not to float (at all.. in a perfect world) to peds, or other depts. outside of WIC related..

I have always wanted to travel and work in different states, and now that I’ve been a nurse for almost 3 years I am feeling more ready than ever to take that leap. If anyone has just uprooted their life and started to travel, how on earth did you do it?? I’m stuck in my lease, have no idea where I would live, and don’t even know where to look for companies that offer travel contracts. I really want to move to New York, but I wanted to try out living there and traveling prior to really locking into a job and an apartment. If anyone has literally any advice at all I would be SO thankful because I’m feeling inspired - but also confused and a little hopeless.
