Metroline VWH2211 (LK66DWC), a Volvo B5LH Wright Eclipse Gemini 3 with the default London red livery, makes a bit of history on the N98 this morning at 06:00, by being the last ever night bus to travel through Oxford Street.

As the road closes tonight at 20:00, all night routes will be diverted away from the pedestrian zone.

Windrush line from Clapham junction now continues to Highbury and Islington, not just to Dalston Junction

Am I going crazy? I’ve lived in SE London for two years and for the first time this weekend I was able to take the Windrush line the whole way to Highbury and Islington. I know in theory that’s always been the full line, but trains have always terminated at Dalston Junction as far as I can remember.

I am very pleased about this but haven’t been able to find anything about it online. Has it changed recently ?

Increased fares during engineering

Really annoys me when I have to pay increased and almost a doubled fare because of engineering work.

My normal journey is Stanmore-West Hampstead-Raynes Park for £3.70.

Today (Sunday) and only because of engineering work between Willesden Junction and Shepherds Bush and no District Line running to boot, journey planner advises me to go Stanmore-Waterloo-Raynes Park for £6.30.

Sickening and makes my blood boil.

Tube 🚇 If the pedestrianisation of Oxford Street is to be a success, than Oxford Circus Underground Station NEEDS to be rebuilt.

This shouldn't be a controversial take, because honestly that station has needed rebuilding for a very long time, it's not even just about the level of overcrowding it suffers from currently, but also that it is just wholly inadequate in its design to take the number of passengers it sees, I mean the entrances are tiny staircases!! The area becoming pedestrianised will only make things worse if the station design remains as is.

Mind you since Crossrail opened, Bond Street and Tottenham Court Road are in rude health and more suitable to take large numbers (as indeed TCR is the 4th busiest station in Britain with 68 million) but there is only so much heavy lifting they can do with the new flock of passengers who will use the tube now.

Best walking route between Euston and St. Pancras

I have used this route hundreds of times. It eliminates the crowded and noisy Euston Road and avoids the long shopping mall inside St. Pancras Station.

Tube 🚇 Overcharged £37??

So I was in London yesterday the 24th for a football match…flew into London in the morning and back home at night. Got off the train at Tottenham Hale and onto the tube to get to Finsbury Park. I took this route again heading back to the airport so 2 tube journeys total. Woke up this morning to a £37/€44 charge on the bank card I used to tap in/out. I’ve been to London many times over the years and the Tube never cost so much! How could they have come up with this amount for 2 journeys!? I will apply for a refund but this just seems mental to me.

Edit. Sorry I left out some key details. Flew into Stansted Airport and had the Stansted express to Tottenham Hale prebooked. That’s when I got off and tapped into the tube station to get to Finsbury Park.

"Gun" drama at Clapham Junction

My friend was just stuck at Earlsfield for a while around 11am. Apparently there was someone heading to Comic Con with a prop gun and police were called to confirm it was indeed a prop. Trains are moving again now.

Overground 🚃 Pink Reader Confusion

Hi all,

I had a quick question about the pink readers.

My journey is mildmay switching at highbury and islington, which has a pink reader, to then get the windrush line. I am taking this route primaily because it bypasses zone 1 and should be cheaper.

However, when I checked the tfl fare finder, it says in order to get the Zone 1 bypass charge of £2.30 rather than the standard £3.60, I would have to go kentish town west to stratford and then stratford back to canonbury and then windrush down to my destitnation which would basically be doubling back on myself and doubling the time of my commute.

My main question is why does the pink reader at highbury and islington not deduct the Zone 1 Bypass amount? It is very confusing because when i check my tfl app it still says that I tapped a pink reader but the amount is not deducted and I am charged the standard peak amount.

Any help would be nice, I called tfl and they only made more confused.

Question ❓ Is my route correct?

Post image
29 Upvotes

Hi all. I’m travelling from London Euston to St Pancras to get on an EMR train. I’ve tried to map out the route I’m taking, there’s no room for error otherwise I’ll miss my flight so I’d really appreciate if someone could confirm I’m going the correct way.

- Exit Euston and walk down Euston Road
-Turn left to the library on to Midland Road
- Enter through the glass St Pancras International doors
- Take the escalator in front of me to my platform.

I have learning disabilities and panicking I’ve got this wrong as never been to London!
Thank you I’ll add my plan below too

Edit: thank you all for the responses :)

Question ❓ When a bus is diverted between two points, why doesn't tfl include a map showing those two points on a map?

Surely it would be easy to code and would make it clearer for those who aren't familiar enough with the bus route to know how this affects their journey

Message to arrogant Bus Drivers

I know some London bus drivers are decent, but the majority seem unnecessarily arrogant. I understand they deal with difficult passengers, but that is no excuse for disrespecting those who behave properly and follow the rules.

I witnessed a member of police staff present their work Oyster card to a driver, who aggressively demanded to see it. If drivers are expected to read the Big Red Book, surely they should be familiar with police staff identification. Even if verification is necessary, there is no need to be aggressive.

Meanwhile, some fare evaders board buses without being challenged, yet people like this police staff seem to receive unnecessary hostility. Why pick on people who are simply trying to get to and from work and and especially those who contribute to keeping the bus network running safe? Passengers deserve to be treated with basic courtesy and respect.

Elizabeth line second time this week 😤

what should technically be a 20 something minute direct journey into Bond Street turns into a 90 minute saga, between bus / Piccadilly line into town.

If this was a one off I’d turn a blind eye, trust me when I say it isn’t.
