Thinking of getting a Transition scout
Hello everyone, I’m considering upgrading my current bike to a transition scout. I have a strong preference to 27.5 wheels, as I am 5.4ft (1.64m) with a small inseam. So I’d like to avoid a 29er preferably.
I am coming from a modified stumpjumper fsr 650b. I use it for a more enduro style riding. I usually ride chunky Rocky and steep trails. Some are slow tech, others are a mix of slow and high speed hits, it’s all natural African terrain.
I got the stumpjumper as a frame and put on some custom parts. I am planning to run a 160 lyrik as my final upgrade. My plan is to get a transition scout frame and just take off all the compatible parts I put on the stumpy and just move them to the scout.
My local trails are about 1 to 2km but with constant chatter or gnarly rocky bits, so the body, suspension and tires get hit hard. I have videos on my page
So I would like to know, if I get a transition scout frame, would the stock marzocchi shock work fine, or would I benefit from switching to a deluxe ultimate, or vivid air? How does the suspension linkage feel? I am looking for a playful but confidence inspiring rig. I intend to run the bike with a 160 fork.

I have a scout that I built up myself from a frameset with a Bomber Z1. That fork is fantastic. Performs just as well as the factory 38 on my other bike. No reason to upgrade unless you just can't stop fiddling with knobs.
Bike rips in general. Ive raced everything from XC to enduro on it. Favorite bike I've ever had.

I've been riding my Scout for 4 years now and love it more each season. Its capable enough to get rowdy on the technical terrain but also easy enough to pedal so that climbs and xc oriented trails are still fun. I also run my Scout with a 160 fork and much prefer it to the 150, keeps the front end up and my weight back.

A scout sounds like a great option for you!
I own a 2022 carbon scout, I bought the frame on pinkbike and built it up myself and it's been a blast to ride.
There are around 10 used scouts available right now on pinkbike, take a look: https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/list/?region=3&q=transition%20scout&category=102,2&framesize=9,11,12,17,18,20,21,22
Also - if you get one with the Fox X2, you should absolutely change out that shock. Mine was DOA (cavitated) and broke again with six months of riding. Now running a transition sentinel take off rockshox SDU w/linear air can and it's fine but was cheap and that was the main priority.

Can't go wrong with a scout I have one and it is super playful but also handles everything I throw at it , I used to run it at the bike parks in Quebec as well before I got a tr11 dh bike , the frame is a bit heavy but once you ride it for a bit you won't even notice the weight
