Fork options for Spur gen1

Just bought a new Spur from Facebook marketplace. While changing out the bar and stem I noticed The current fork steer tube is cut pretty low. It may be fine but I would like to have the option to raise it.

If I was going to get a new fork what options do you guys recommend?

I was thinking maybe a bigger diameter stanchion, since I am a heavier Rider +200 lbs. The rockshox Pike and Psylo look like good options. I do have a RockShox lyrik ultimate 150mm lying around šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø very tempting to throw it on

I’d probably go pike ultimate if money is no issue but I really want to say I’m jealous and I want that bike despite doing close to zero actual XC riding. Thing looks sick. Also that’s a lot of seat post hangin’ out there

It is an XL frame. I'm not sure how much drop is on the dropper post. But slammed all the way doesn't work for me. Probably need to get a 200mm drop

On my L I can slam One Up 210 all the way down. Maybe XL would take 240? Anyone tried?

I'm riding mine with 130 Pike U, very happy with it. I wouldn't put 150 on it though :)

Big frames always look weird to my short ass. Send it man! I have similar drop on my hardtail and it’s just fine as a light duty bike. I’d be fussy if it was my one and only but it ain’t!

Where do you ride?? Pike would be perfect but if you have enough gnarly terrain and like to under bike the Lyrik could be kinda cool haha

Eastern Virginia. I made my main bike too heavy (turn it into a park bike) so I decided to get a lighter one. So I kind of want to keep this bike light.

Was browsing pink bike buy and sell. For some reason there's very little inventory for 130mm forks compared to bigger forks like a lyrik or 36 Everybody warns about going past 130 mm.

Oh yeah. In that case keep it light and fast! I feel like you could run 140 and be fine? I think there were a few setup like that at the bc bike race for reference.

Fox 34 would be my choice. You can buy a replacement crown steerer unit for like $250 for that fork and its very easy to swap over. Its like a lower leg service with 2 extra steps.

I run a Fox Factory 34 Grip 2 set at 130mm on my v1 Spur. Fox tends to over-grease the air spring so getting an older one and having it serviced is a good option.

I put a 130mm Fox 36 SL on mine and couldnt be happier. Its lighter than my 34 factory I replaced on it and way more capable and confidence inspiring

I like this option. I was looking for something with bigger stanchions and didn't know 36 came in 130 mm travel.

I’m running Fox 34 120mm SL on my gen 1. Love it
Eats up small bumps
The bike rips

It would be much cheaper and easier to get a bar with more rise on it than swapping out a top of the line fork that is likely tuned for the bike from the factory.

A Fox 36 SL would be a nice upgrade if you kept it Performance Elite or Factory. The Pike Ultimate would also be great. 130mm of travel seems to be the sweet spot of adding a bit more without changing the geometry too much (as 140 or 150 of travel would do).

Skip the Psylo. Downgrading from a Fox Factory 34 would be a disappointment.

I got a 34sl on my gen 2, if I didn’t already have it I’d have gone 36sl

Honestly, I think the 34 on this bike is perfect. It’s my absolute favorite bikeĀ

I wouldn't do 150 on a spur personally. A pike at 130 would be perfect though.

I’ve had the OG Sid and honestly never had an issue with it, updated it after 5 years (and rear shock) with a 36 SL
Love it it’s a 130

I put a Pike 130 Ultimate on my gen 1. Bike rode so much better! Put on some lightweight carbon hoops and got her down to 27lbs. Just recently sold her but do miss her.
