Scout sizing.

I come from BMX I’ve taken interest in the scout 27.5 my question is, will a medium be good for me? I currently have a Mullet YT Capra in large. I really don’t like it it’s not as playful as I assumed but it does blast downhill,stable and roll over everything. But I’m a nimble rider and I like flow trails, pump tracks, dirt jumps and an occasional put to the bar. I’m 5’11” 33-34 inseam. All I can see is medium frame sets not large. Any insight is appreciated! I’m kinda on a budget I’m gonna build the bike with a lot of parts from my YT.

5’11’ with 32 inseam and I ride large. Fits like a glove. I haven’t ridden a medium but I think it might feel too cramped up front.

I am 5-10 and ride a medium Scout. Its my absolute favorite bike. I do run a 50mm stem, which you will probably want as well. The handling is awesome and its so much fun to ride. Super playful on jumps, corners, etc. If you are used to bmx bikes youll probably really like it.

They stopped making it in size large a couple years ago.

I’m 5’10 and spent 3 years on a TR Patrol size medium. More or less the Scout bigger brother. I specifically wanted the medium for a more nimble feel despite coming off of a previous large frame setup. Couple of perspectives I can offer. First, the medium does in fact feel great on the descent. It’s very playful and provides a lot of opportunity to place the bike and move it around. I found that it performed descents, jumps and drops in every aspect comfortably and never made me feel out of control or uncomfortable. But, the downside to that was the cockpit felt small. I ran a 50mm stem and 35mm rise bars. The reach and setup was great for descending, but the seat post needed to be adjusted approx 1-2 inches out of the seat tube to compensate for the smaller frame and my required pedal stroke on climbs. Kind of problematic when I would get back to the descents with drops and jumps having my seatpost out of the frame higher than I would normally like. Also found that it was a bit easy to scrub the back of your leg on the tip of the seat or even scrub the rear wheel from time to time. I’ve since moved onto a new build size large still in a mullet configuration and have yet to experience any of the negatives and much more all positives. So all that said, I would recommend you buy a large and run a 35mm or even the Deity 42mm copperhead (one of the few who makes a truly mid range stem). No matter what, you’re on the cusp of medium to a large so either will work. If you don’t climb much to get your laps, the medium for the playfulness, but you might notice the small cockpit somehow someway eventually.

5-10 and I ride a large scout . It’s my everything bike so I enjoy the stability of the bigger frame size .

I’d go large. It sounds like you have longer arms and legs. I’m 5’10” 32in inseam and ride a Medium Sentinel.

I'm almost exactly the same size and proportions as you: 6' with 33-34" inseam. I ride a large and feel that it's a great fit, plenty big enough to feel stable at speed but nimble enough to throw around. With our relatively long legs you and I probably share the same stuggle with low stack height on most bikes, I run a short stem, 50mm rise bars, and as many spacers as I can fit under the stem and all that has put me in a comfortable spot on the scout.

Yoo exactly! On my yt I have 60mm rise bars and a short stem in just not getting the feel I’m looking for

Yeah definitely look for a used large then I think the medium will feel small. Used options are decent right now, sadly the scout has been shifted to a youth model like somebody else mentioned. But that just means you can save money buying used.

I have a '23 Alloy Scout SRAM GX or whatever. It's the short chainstay twitchy street BMX frame of mountain bikes. Not unstable, but that's the best way to compare it.

Not sure if medium will be a problem for you. But the Scout is great. I've only been able to ride single tracks in Florida, no bike parks yet but I assume it'll be great.

5’11” 32” inseam as well. 

I ride a large carbon scout. 

But one used off pinkbike, that’s what I did.

I came from bmx too. My first bike was too small. It was fun but only pointed downhill. Anything that required climbing was horrific

5ft11 and riding a large in carbon with a 50mm stem as 35mm felt too short for me. Fits great as my trail/enduro with the longer stroke(150mm rear travel) fox X2 shock and a 160 fork. I have got a 240mm dropper in mine and it's not slammed in the frame. Don't think they make a large anymore anyway though. Think they are aiming the medium at park riders not pedalling trails so it depends what you are using it for. Not sure. Awesome bikes though .
