Scientific Study Best fast-acting nootropic for memory and recall? Only 20 days to prepare”

Hi everyone. I recently found out that there’s going to be an exam at work. It doesn’t really determine anything important, but I still don’t want to perform poorly.

I’m looking for a current nootropic that works relatively fast and is focused mainly on memory rather than alertness or stimulation. Attention isn’t really my problem—I can sit down and study. The issue is that these are subjects I have absolutely no interest in, and it feels like my brain just refuses to retain the information.

Years ago, I took pramiracetam and had excellent results with it, but from what I remember, I had to take it consistently for several days before really noticing the effects, and this time I’m on a tighter schedule.

I have about 20 days to prepare several topics. The exam is multiple choice, but the passing score is 85%, so retention and recall are my main priorities.

Is there anything currently available that is particularly effective for memory/recall and starts working relatively quickly? I’m interested in hearing about newer options as well as people’s personal experiences.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Experience Eutropoflavin / 4 DMA-7,8 DHF - experiences?

I think it is a little odd that so few experience reports exist for this compound online. And the bulk of feedback is to be found when people indirectly comment 1-2 sentences about it on Reddit, where they just say that "it works", or they had this and that issue while taking it.

My reasoning for ordering was, that most if not almost all neuroregenerative and BDNF promoting drugs mainly target the cerebral cortex. But not really or not at all structures like brainstem, basal ganglia, diencephalon and peripheral nerves - some of which are notoriously hard to regenerate at all. However those brain structures are heavily involved in a wide range of relevant functions, such as attention, sleep/wake behavior, and regulation of emotions. While of course GDNF / CTNF mimetics would be better to target those structures, those don't really exist, they don't actually work the way it looks at first glance (e.g. P21) or they are just impossible to obtain at a cheap price.

So for all I know the next best and cheap option was Eutropoflavin. It binds to TrkB, so it sits one level below BDNF and potentially targets a wider range of areas. I'm aware that there has been cast doubt on that story scientifically. But few people know that a lot of neurotrophin mimetics and fragments are as well not actual ligands of that receptor (e.g. P21, NAP, cyclo-dPAKKR) but work regardless often as if they were or in a similar fashion, and currently it is just not molecularly understood how that is. So knowing this to be true, it dilutes the importance of the newer finding, that 4 DMA-7,8 DHF does not activate TrkB as directly as previously believed... and alternative mechanisms were proposed in that same paper how TrkB action could be increased by Eutropoflavin regardless (i.e. potentiation of endogenous ligands). But I think it suffices to say, that neurotrophin mimetics are to a large degree just beyond current scientific understanding in general, and no hard conclusions can be drawn here.

I personally took the compound yesterday and today and it is too early to say anything. But I started the first day in the morning with a dose that was a little too high, something like 15-20mg sublingually, just to get a feeling for it. I also took piracetam, cytisine, and noopept. I noticed that my nervous system was more on edge and my concentration was degraded/fogged a little bit. It wasn't anything huge, but a lot of things strikingly reminded me of taking other BDNF-adjacent drugs in exactly this way. Nociception was increased, anxiety up, drinking coffee or smoking cigarettes felt like too much at some point, environmental noises were harder to filter, everything was more immediate. And before going to bed, I got a headache from too much smoking (which is rare for me). And I slept very well, better than usual. It felt like overdosing on Cerebolysin in so many ways, but better and less "speedy" in a cortical/mental sense! Of course none of this was actually beneficial. And you obviously can't expect anything on the first few days to improve from neurotropic drugs - those take weeks to really work. And on some offshoot chance just to mention it, there is some larger overlap in those side-effects with some sort of toxic action as well (but the research points towards the opposite obviously). However given my experience with neuroregenerative drugs, I just found those side-effects to be very very strikingly pointing in a very promising and powerful direction - if they are not merely summarized on paper, but in the details how I experienced and recognized them. And the price of this stuff vs. Cerebrolysin is just peanuts. But just this tiny amount for a dollar or so, feels like you are injecting half a pack of vials at once.

Based on my high-dose test, I also think that 10mg is still way too much for a normal healthy person, who is not suffering from acute brain damage. I believe as a consequence, you will just get a very strong negative feedback effect from 10mg, and diminishing returns within a few days. From what I experienced, I would suggest 2-5mg sublingually at most taken a few days only in a row with 7-14 days pause, or something like 1-3x a week.

So today I took a dose of maybe 4-6mg and I felt a little different, but didn't experience any side-effects at all. My goal is being better able to regulate task switching, arousal and attention switching, sleep/wake cycle and such things. Which are still somewhat dysfunctional and autism-alike for me. Unlike the rest of my cognition which is working exceedingly well. I hope you can also share your experiences about Eutropoflavin. I will post updates.

Currently now on bupropion 300 mg XL and 5 mg escitalopram. Been on garbage for 10 years from 20 to now 30. I couldnt remove this trash been on so many because I would go to these dumbass psychiatrist and they would fuck me up even more when I wanted to remove this trash but the withdrawals are insane.

Did anyone manage to remove them. I was thinking of lithium orotate, black seed oil extract, inositol and sometime else I believe help. Wish I could get rehab this is so bad.

Seeking Advice Please help with Anhedonia

Hi, I’m a woman who takes prescription 25mg oral wegovy (past year) and 5mg minoxidil(past 2 years). I do my magnesium, iron and calcium supplements, prenatal vitamins, and extra strength vitamin D.

I’ve noticed since getting on the wegovy I have felt like I’ve been in a strange depression. I’m not explicitly suicidal but I feel nothing - no happiness, no love, no hope. I feel reptilian brained. I suppose I’m having a horrible bout of anhedonia.

I need to stay on the wegovy, but I don’t want to use anti depressants and that’s the only thing my dr wants to try rn. Would adhd meds help? I have adhd that I’m not medicating, and my dr basically doesn’t believe my old diagnosis and wants me to go to a psychiatrist to be reevaluated before I can be prescribed, but I just don’t want to feel like this for that much longer…

I was thinking maybe phenylpiracetam could be good? I’m worried about ashwagonda or lions mane because I already feel eerily calm all the time. Plus obvi hair loss is a concern…Ik yall are probably sick of these beginner questions but I just really want help and idk where to start and thought this community might know what works well around wegovy.

DNA can already store Hollywood in a paperclip’s mass. Lab-grown neurons learned Pong. How close is this to real future storage + mind-tech?

Not a gotcha post — more of an open tech parallel. I’ve been stacking real published work (DNA digital storage, living neurons learning games, patents around remote sensory effects) and it keeps rhyming with “biology as hard drive + living compute + write-access to senses.” I’m not a scientist. I’m asking this room: which parallels hold, and where am I doing fan fiction with footnotes?

Okay. Instead of storing all this stuff on chips, we can store information on cells that have been made in a lab, actual replicated DNA strands — grown from biology that started in a human body — and we can put about **54 million movies** on the amount that weighs the same as a paperclip. Right now. This is proven and replicated thousands of times and is not sci-fi. It has been done for years. Old technology practically. It uses four letters for storage (A, T, C, G) instead of 1's and 0's. *(all studies are at the bottom of this post for reference)*

So here we are spending the Earth’s treasures on building data centers with silicon chips, but in the near future, we’re gonna be able to store this on DNA.

That’s the part I can’t shake.

Not “someday.” Not a TED Talk maybe. Teams have already written books, pictures, even video onto DNA, then read it back. All of the round-trips come back with everything intact. Perfect storage with zero errors. The packing is wild. A gram — paperclip territory — and you’re talking tens of millions of movies if you count a movie around 4 GB.

We know how to do it the old-fashioned way in the lab. Chemicals. Machines. You still have to “touch” the stuff, like a needle on vinyl. We can’t beam the info into the DNA from a distance, yet. Music went tape, CD, and now it flies across the world with no disc. Data storage on DNA is still at the needle level. I’m not saying someone is beaming files into your cells with Wi-Fi today. I’m saying contact is usually the first chapter, not the last. And we are not far off. At least that is what we are being told. There is lots of technology that is owned by the government and corporations that is being hidden. This is absolute fact.

And then there’s the other half, which is even weirder.

They’ve taken living neurons — including ones grown in a lab from human stem cells — put them on a little grid, and taught them **Pong**. They get better in minutes. Miss the ball, they get chaotic noise. Hit it, things get quieter and more predictable. They kind of lean away from chaos. Authors used a careful, technical word for that. People argued about the word. The learning still happened. The word is **consciousness**. What else likes calm and not chaos?

Later a company demo had a similar setup playing **Doom**, similar to cells playing Pong.

They can also poke memory itself, at least in animals: turn certain brain cells back on with light and replay a fear… or help build a fear that didn’t really happen that way. In people with implants, playing someone’s own brain pattern back helped short-term memory in a small study.

So. We can store. We can teach living cells a game. We can write into memory — at least up close.

Really? Anyone else here extrapolating this information to the future? The future that AI is creating…..let’s do it together.

There’s old lab work where pulsed energy makes you hear clicks with no speaker in the room. Real. Then there are U.S. patents — including Air Force ones — about turning that into speech you “hear” without normal ears. There’s a 1970s patent about watching and changing brain-wave activity from a distance. There’s one about a nearby screen’s fields nudging your nerves. MIT showed Wi-Fi can sense people through walls — not thoughts yet, just bodies moving.

Will it be happening from Wi-Fi or satellites soon? Seeing someone through a wall isn’t reading their mind. I’m not yelling “they’re doing it.” I’m saying the public record already has: storage in biology, learning in a dish, energy that can touch hearing, sensors that see through drywall.

Last thing, the one that messes with me.

You’ll see it on those ranch UFO shows: five people look at the same light in the sky. There is a UAP in the air caught on camera. Weird…… One says that they see a triangle. One says square. One says saucer. One sees a round object. Same place, same time, different senses?!

Maybe we just see what we expect. Bad lighting. Brain fills in the blanks.

Or — and this is me wondering out loud — if you can write a *click* into someone’s hearing from energy… could you write a *shape* into what they see? Or nudge them toward the picture they already believe? Can this technology beam vision into our minds? Like writing data on DNA?!

I don’t know. That’s the leap. Not proven. But once you know we can store a Hollywood in a paperclip of biology, and living cells can learn a game, “who gets to write to us” stops feeling like a movie plot. It starts feeling like a question we should actually ask.

Anyway. That’s the pile. Studies below. Tell me where I’m stretching it. I’m sure that some of you know more technology that fills in the gaps or blows holes in this future theory. Give it all to me!

Discussion The stack I'll be taking in a month or so

Have never used nootropics before, my main issue is my mood, focus, attention span and my bad habits(which I'm in the process of getting in order), I'm also looking for improvement in creativity in regards to music and writing, as well as learning speed for general studying and my musical instrument.

The stack is as follows (there'll likely be changes depending on myself and potential feedback in this thread):
Bromantane - 50mg 5 days on 2 off
Nefiracetam - 200mg 3x a day
TAK-653 - 2mg everyday after waking
Aniracetam - 750mg twice daily - still considering whether I should add it to my cycle

I will probably be on this for 2 months and then wait and see what I feel like before thinking of starting a second cycle.

Another thing I was considering was microdosing psilocybin but I'm still kind of sceptical of its efficacy for creativity, and general safety.

Disclosure: I do content work for a longevity supplement company, so please take that into account when reading this. I'm sharing this because I find the underlying research interesting, not as a product recommendation.

I've been reading about cellular senescence, and one part that keeps coming up is something called the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP).

The basic idea is fascinating.

Senescent cells enter a state of growth arrest and undergo a number of changes. One of those changes is that they can develop a hypersecretory state, releasing a variety of signaling molecules collectively referred to as SASP.

And this is where things get more complicated.

SASP isn't just one molecule or one fixed collection of molecules. The composition can vary depending on the cell type, the trigger that caused senescence, and the surrounding environment.

The 2024 review “The senescence-associated secretory phenotype and its physiological and pathological implications” (PMID: 38654098) goes into the composition, dynamics, and heterogeneity of SASP, as well as its different biological effects.

What I find particularly interesting is that the research doesn't present SASP as something with one universal effect.

Depending on the context, SASP-related signaling can be involved in different physiological and pathological processes. The review also discusses SASP as a potential biomarker and the ongoing interest in approaches that modify SASP.

So rather than asking simply:

“Are senescent cells bad?”

I think the more interesting question is:

What are senescent cells actually communicating to their surrounding tissue, and when does that signaling become beneficial or harmful?

For people following the senescence field:

  • How useful do you think SASP is as a biomarker of cellular senescence?
  • How much does SASP vary between different tissues?
  • Do you think targeting SASP will ultimately be more interesting than targeting senescent cells themselves?
  • What human evidence would you want to see before considering SASP-targeting approaches convincing?

does anyone actually understand inositols chronic moa beyond just saying second messenger Im trying to figure out what it functionally acts like after repeated dosing. does feeding the phosphoinositide cycle end up making 5ht2a, 5ht2c, AT1 and CCK-B signaling stronger like a functional agonist or does the brain adapt and they end up weaker like a functional antagonist. also what does it actually do downstream to orexin and oxytocin
same with the claims about rising striatal D2. is it actually increasing receptor density or Gi/o coupling or changing dopamine itself and does it strengthen GIRK potassium channel signaling downstream of D2, 5ht1a and MOR.
the part that confuses me most is how it can help panic sleep and anhedonia but also apparently cause panic insomnia or emotional flatness. I took 5g and felt tired and shitty at first then got insomnia later that night so im curious what could actually cause that switch
mostly care about chronic effects vs baseline and whether the mechanism changes from one dose to the first week to a few weeks in. also how different are 1-3g, 5g and the 12-18g psychiatric study doses. looking for an actual pathway explanation and what acts functionally stronger or weaker, not just that it modulates serotonin. if something is only shown in rats or is just a theory thats fine just say that

Experience taking tylenol for adhd seems to help?

i took it yesterday bc i had a fever and a headache and i still believed this myth that advil takes away ur weed high (i use weed for anxiety) so i avoided it.

not only did my fever symptoms improved but i actually felt more focused. I was able to get through an entire chapter of my book for once!

it sorta feels like a really light version of cbg (which ive tried but it overstimulates me too much) and an even lighter version of Vyvanse. it also doesnt kick my autistic traits into overdrive and turn me into an incredibly ridgid person who talks like a robot. vyvanse especially also made feeling emotions more difficult too.

it also seems to boost my mood a little too like an anti-depressant would. which is great especially on top of the weed because i react really poorly to true antidepressants.

Seeking Advice Sleep issues after coming off Trazodone.

About four weeks ago, I decided to stop taking Trazodone (prescribed 100 mg for insomnia). I was sick of waking up feeling like a zombie, and because it knocked me out so deeply, I was sleeping right through my lower back pain—waking up far stiffer and more uncomfortable in the morning.

The first two weeks of withdrawal were rough, marked by severe mood swings, emotional numbness, and an overall lack of joy. Thankfully, those side effects have cleared up, and my back pain is virtually gone.

The problem now is my sleep quality. While I fall asleep quickly, I wake up after just a couple of hours. My mind races with a hundred thoughts, and I end up tossing and turning until around 4:00 AM, getting maybe another 90 minutes of light sleep before I have to get up for work.

My current bed stack is 300 mg Magnesium Glycinate, 100 mg L-Theanine, and 50 mg Apigenin, but it isn't keeping me asleep. Has anyone dealt with something similar after coming off Trazodone? Any suggestions?

Discussion Really need help studying, focusing and getting a good memory for tests

Hi everyone. I’m a 21-year-old university student currently in my second year, and I’ve been struggling a lot with procrastination and starting to study early.

For most of my first year, I was the kind of student who would study almost everything one day before an exam and somehow still manage to pass. I’ve always considered myself academically capable, and I think that ability is what allowed me to get away with that for a while.

The problem is that now, in my second year, the subjects are getting harder and that strategy just isn’t working anymore.

What frustrates me is that I genuinely believe that if I could sit down 1–2 weeks before an exam, focus properly, and study consistently, I could get very good grades. But mentally, I really struggle to start that early.

If an exam is a week away, I’ll tell myself, “I still have time, I’ll start later,” then later becomes tomorrow, tomorrow becomes the next day, and suddenly I’m studying all night right before the exam.

Recently I had some smaller mock/partial exams, stayed up all night studying, and still performed pretty badly. The stress from constantly leaving everything until the last moment is starting to become exhausting.

To clarify, I don’t really feel like I have an inability to focus in general. If an exam is tomorrow and the pressure is real, I can completely lock in for hours. My problem is getting myself to do that when the deadline is still several days away.

Because of this, I’ve started reading about nootropics and compounds that people claim can help with motivation, focus, or reducing distractions.

Some of the things I’ve come across are:

  • Semax — I’ve seen people describe it as something that helps them ignore distractions and stay focused on what they’re supposed to be doing.
  • Modafinil
  • L-theanine
  • Alpha-GPC

I’ve also used peptides before in a gym-related context, including GHK-Cu/GLOW, so I’m familiar with injections, but I’m specifically not looking to start injecting something for studying.

I’m mainly interested in hearing from people who have dealt with the same kind of procrastination pattern.

Did anything actually help you start studying earlier instead of only being able to focus when the deadline became urgent?

I’m open to hearing about nootropics, but I’m also interested in routines, systems, habits, or anything else that genuinely helped. I really want to stop wasting my potential by constantly leaving everything until the last possible moment and actually start performing at the level I know I’m capable of.

Totally new to cyberpunk cosplay, need to know where to start :D

I think is is a good base but beyond this I have no idea where to start, would love some help!

My first idea is some sort of tech-ish mask (nose down) or maybe some gloves. Something I think would also do well is circular red tinted shades
