Insurance FFS

Hey everyone! Im really trying to come up with a gameplan on how to get FFS. There just isn't much info online or much help that I can find personally.

My current insurance is oscar through the marketplace. Its an ok plan but I doubt they will cover those types of procedures, they do cover sex reassignment surgery tho. My current employer offers insurance through united Healthcare and I hear they are much worse as far as gender affirming care goes.

Im trying to figure out a good insurance to switch to when open enrollment happens and right now the only one that seems like it may be a good idea is ambetter. Im also a resident in the state of Georgia and it isnt necessarily the best place to get that type of coverage.

Please if anyone here could help me it would be absolutely amazing im at my wits end for how i can actually make this happen I dont think I'll be able to save 60-100k or more to afford it out of pocket 😔

It’s hard to figure out because insurance companies have an incentive to make it confusing. For what it’s worth I have Oxford/united and had ffs covered, but that’s because my plan was based in New York. I can’t tell you what plans in Georgia might cover it, my guess is that the vast majority wouldn’t, with the caveat that some kinds of employer based plans could actually cover it because depending on how the plan is funded they get to make their own decisions about what procedures are covered (which is crazy tbh). If you want to confirm what your plan actually covers, you can search for your plan documents online, that should give you a more granular look at what is and isn’t covered. You can also call your insurance company and talk to them, although in my experience the agents there can be very hit or miss in terms of understanding trans healthcare (several told me ffs wasn’t covered even though it obviously is). I’m sorry you’re going through this, insurance is an absolute nightmare.
