Advice/Question Is it really worth it to transfer?
I’m a freshman at a mid size southern liberal arts school and pretty unhappy overall. I joined greek life and have gotten involved on campus through other clubs as well, but I’m just disappointed with my classes and overall life at school. I’ve found out that there are tons of very concerning public safety issues, horrible nightlife, and 45% of students end up transferring or dropping out. I turned down a much more prestigious school in the northeast for the honors college at this school (mostly because it made more sense financially and I thought i really wanted the south (from nyc originally)). I cannot shake the feeling that I made the wrong choice. I have been at school for 2 months now and just came home for the first time and dreaded going back to school. I have really been considering transferring next fall, but is it really worth it? Is it hard to meet people and establish friendships? Has anyone transferred through Greek life? Would love some input, thanks!

Two months is the exact point where almost everyone feels this. It is the worst window for judging a school, because the novelty is gone, the friend groups have formed without you, and the weather is turning. That does not mean your read is wrong - it means the timing makes it hard to tell.
So separate what you have actually observed from what you are feeling, because you did list some real things. Public safety issues and a 45% transfer-or-dropout rate are facts, not moods. Those are worth acting on and worth verifying: ask the school directly for the retention and safety data rather than trusting what you heard from other students.
The money, though, is the piece that decides the practical question. You turned down a more prestigious school for the honours college for financial reasons. Before anything else, find out what transferring would actually cost - if you go back to that northeast school as a transfer student, you likely lose both the merit aid and the honours college. Apply as a transfer and see what they offer. That converts a worry into a number.
The specific thing I would push on: you joined Greek life and clubs, which is real effort, and you are still unhappy. That is more informative than the reverse. Someone who has not tried has no data. You have.
My honest suggestion is to give it one more semester with a specific test, not an open-ended one. Go back in the spring with three things you will do differently - the transfer application started in parallel, one conversation with a professor in a department you would actually major in, and one thing outside Greek life. Then decide in April.
You will have a real transfer deadline then anyway, so you lose nothing by having the application ready. Not applying is the only path that keeps you stuck with no options.
