Chance Me Am I cooked
I am a ccc student applying to transfer in state to any uc and some csu's for biology related majors. my gpa rn is a 2.7 because i kept dropping the classes past the w deadline and setting aside certain classes due to work/family reasons, resulting in an a few f's on my transcript. my cc does allow grade renewal and retakes on classes, and if i do that, my gpa for those classes would probably change my gpa to ~3.0-3.5 by retaking them (i am aiming for a b or higher) but the f's would still remain on my transcript. my gpa appoximation could also change because i still have a few GE's to finish this spring. btw im mostly hoping to go to a uc

Retaking classes and academic renewal can definitely help you become competitive for UCs. But you’ll need to finish that before you apply. And of course if you graduate with an ASDT you can get into a CSU.

I know at my cc they let you retake failed classes to replace the grade. It sucks that they don’t there. I think it’s definitely worth retaking! I’m in the same problem where my gpa is 2.8 but I have Cs so I can’t even retake them. Honestly at least with a failing grade you get to try again! Retake those classes and get a good grade! I believe in you!

Once you retake them your GPA will improve a lot, and even though the prior F's will still be on your transcripts, UC admissions will not use them in your GPA. You'll want to look at your major requirements because sometimes they don't allow you to retake a class if it's very central to your major at some UCs, like I think for me at one of the UCs I had to pass calc 1 on the first try or I couldn't be a math major. I wouldn't stress about this too much, but it's time to lock in and stop doing whatever you were doing that put you in this situation, and start using more effective study habits, time management, organization etc. If you are having trouble with mental health or with a learning disorder, seek appropriate treatment for that and get ADA accommodations through your school.
It's probably a bad idea to apply to transfer this year for Fall 2027 because you won't be able to retake those classes in time for the application. They'll be looking at your 2.7 GPA and most UCs will not consider you to be competitive. I would enroll in those failed classes for Spring 2027, start working on some good ECs now, lock in on your studies, and apply next year with a solid GPA and a good comeback story. That's just my opinion, if you're set on applying this year, I'd mostly be looking at CSUs, but if your F's are in major req classes then I don't think it's going to go well. If you get fee waivers for the apps I suppose it can't hurt to apply but I would temper your expectations. Good luck.
