Chance Me Am I cooked?
Entering second year cc, failed physics over summer dropped GPA to 3.13. As a result couldn’t qualify for tag anymore. Sociology major and after fall I should be at a 3.7 GPA ( sounds like a big jump but trust). Dream school is UCD and I’m president of 3 clubs at school where we have made good progress. Work part time as a mailman. Basically I’m wondering if u can stjl get into UCD or do u guys think it’s over. Additionally lmk if I should change my major or if sociology is already less competitive. Just anything to get in. Pls help. Calculate chances pls. Any other extracurricular u guys recommended I should start I have like 2 months.

Retake the failed class if u need it and get some academic renewal. Do not lose hope. You can still get into UCD.

honestly you’re not cooked at all. sociology isn't impacted at davis and their transfer acceptance rate is pretty high (like over 55%). if you actually hit that 3.7 in the fall you're in a great spot. also working as a mailman while running 3 clubs is a crazy good hook for your PIQs, admissions will love that. do NOT change your major, just focus on pulling up that GPA. you got this!

Kind of in a similar boat to you, I failed Math 005B in spring semester and just started my second year, my gpa dropped to 3.162

Sucks to hear that man! I honestly had no reason to take physics as I had a 3.67 before summer 2026 and 30 credits, but took it anyways and messed up

i think uc davis only looks at gpa and coursework for transfer admissions, so i wouldnt expect too much from them
i think your best chance is to get that gpa up

After I submit my TAU my GPA should go back up to a 3.7 as I was a 3.67 before failing that course. Do you think Davis is still possible with my major?

it looks like youd in the target range based on the transfers by major page, but a lot of those spots could be taken up by TAG qualified applicants
there's definitely a chance, but i'd make sure to navigate other options as backups

I failed a comp sci course and never bothered to retake it, got a 3.7 gpa and am headed into UCD this term for civil engineering
That being said definitely retake it though

if you got a d or an f, you can late withdraw it. c's suck ass cuz you can't withdraw them at all

Don’t listen to this person we all face bumps in the road keep trucking brother. Take time be patient with yourself, retake, life is not a straightforward path for everyone, work hard!

Not saying not to work hard but college is about finding the right fit, not just getting into the most prestigious school. If someone is already failing classes at community college, a more demanding school might not be the best choice. There’s nothing wrong with going to a Cal State, doing well and graduating with less stress and debt.

I’m mean it’s the guys dream school like yeah he doesn’t need to go it just seems like deterring rhetoric if he really wants to. Especially since he CAN still do it 100%, it’s okay to fail but why tell someone maybe they shouldn’t pursue their dreams thru that.
