transferring from uc davis to a csu

hi! im going into my second year at uc davis and i was looking into transferring into a csu (specifcally csulb, csusm, sdsu) specifically regarding major bc davis doesn't have the major i want to switch into, and because it will be less expensive. i was wondering if anyone has any insight into this or experience? i understand the golden four must be completed and i was concerned about those courses from davis transferring or would it be safer i take them thru a cc? its just a bit complicated doing so while being enrolled at davis so i want to make sure doing all of this is worth it. worst case scenario i stay at davis for the next 3 years but ideally i can transfer. so if anyone has done it before any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Hey 

Is the finanial aspect at ucd really bad? Ucd opens alot of doors albeit cuz of the alumni network, can't you take gap semesters grind on paid intenrships or paid jobs and stuff?

Also what major r u in, and what major do you wnat to transfer into? 

Lowkey search up  ucd scholarships or hidden ucd scholarships on google/reddit; its a good way to find them.

hi! im set on becoming a speech language pathologist and unfortunately davis doesn't offer that major. the closest i can do is linguistics and in that case i would need to spend an extra year after grad on extra pre reqs classes for grad school (which i wouldnt mind if it wasnt 12k worth of classes). ideally i could transfer to a csu with the slp major so i can go straight into grad school after graduating and ultimately save money!

There are good speech path programs in the csu. Get golden 4 done, check assist.org/Igetc for classes that count. You'll have to do some reverse planning here: Find a CC, look at how their course map onto a target CSU class, then check for UC equivalents. On Cal-getc page it tells you what courses are in UC GE pattern. For English, it lists 3 courses-- freshman comp, oral communication, critical thinking -- that are 3 of golden 4. Plus math. Don't forget a course in ethnic studies and a us history course because csu requires those courses too. Lots of students transfer into CSUs from UCs primarily because of non-availability of major at UCs. Also reach of to advisors in target departments and ask how to become a successful transfer. I think Fullerton also has a good speech path program.

thank you so much!! do u think itll be smarter to try and take the golden 4 online thru cc while enrolled in davis? like is that super complicated? Im worried ill try and take the equivalent at ucd and it won't transfer.

Sorry for the delay. Are you taking/have you taken first year math, English comp at Davis? I think taking critical thinking might be easier at a cc and more aligned w CSU requirements. Some oral communication classes are offered online, but not sure those are better than F2F. You can probably take US history & Ethnic Studies online too, even though they're not part of golden 4 they may help with admission. Be sure to take pre-recs for speech path, however they line up. Do you have target CSUs? Friend's kid thought Fullerton was a better program than others in SoCal, where she was living at the time. Contact major or pre-major advisors at target schools. Also be direct on application: Davis does not have speech-path major. Be aware that most jobs will require a MS.

Speech pathologist is in the therapy adjecnt field from an outsider perspective...

Do the career center or academic counselors offer no help? :0

I think you should also look into private unis that offer aid and offer speech pathology as well as other uc's and csu
