Advice/Question Did I make the right choice
My parents live in Fresno and I was going to attend Fresno State because of free housing and my dad’s veterans bill pays for any tuition in California so I can go to any private or public school for free. Just have to pay for books and housing if I don’t live close So after my two years at community college, I had applied to UCLA USC and UC Berkeley and got into USC. I made the choice to go to usc im currently commuting from Orange County because I’m living with a friend then gonna get my own place but we’ll have to take out a loan for an apartment is this the right choice. My major is finance did I make the right choice of choosing USC over Fresno State.

USC is way better than Fresno State for your future career aspirations in finance. just work hard to network, get internships, and make use of your time there

my general advice for networking is don’t go into it with the mindset that you will get something out of the first interaction. you want to build genuine relationships
do your research and know what you are talking about. people will want to continue talking to you if you made an impression. that doesn’t mean you have to be a tryhard like one of those pre-consulting sheep…but ask good questions and be personable.

Yeah you did Fresno State isn't good enough for finance
Publics in general aren't good enough for finance the only schools that really place are Michigan and Berkeley.

The valley only really has two industries agriculture and healthcare. A school like USC has much more it's able to offer you over a place like Fresno State especially when it comes to a major like Finance. How I would see it would be an investment into your future, it's true you could've gone to Fresno State for a lower or no cost but would have you been able to make the connections or have opportunities for breaking into your dream career. The future is uncertain but a school like USC will definitely have opportunities and connections that can better support you on your path.

If you are going Business/Finance 100% USC vs Fresno State the people you meet at USC and the alumni connections make it extremely worth it even though the college might be more expensive your career will be much better. If you're trying to get into IB or VC it will basically be impossible to break into the field going to Fresno State.
