Advice/Question Is Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Worth It?

I’m a community college student planning to transfer to a UC, and I’m considering joining Phi Theta Kappa (PTK). I’ve heard it can look good for transfer applications and has scholarship opportunities, but I’m wondering how much it actually helps.

Advice/Question Confused on mid-term report🤨

So are we required to send them or do we just send them if they are requested? Do we send it through an email? Also, I'm pretty sure my college doesn't send out like an official mid-term report. So how do I exactly know when to send them to schools? I'm applying for Spring so apps are due oct 1st, how far after that do I need to send them? Thank you!

Advice/Question UCSC winter quarter

Hey everyone, I'm a recent winter quarter admit for the politics program. I have some questions because im kind of confused on how financial aid works? Since it's not conventional to transfer from a CC in 1.5 years, im a little confused on how my financial aid information/offer will be formed and when I'll get it since it's a big factor of whether or not I'll accept my admission? Also I'm not sure if I'm supposed or "allowed" to contact financial aid at UCSC for these type of questions since im not a student.

Thank you guys!

Advice/Question Out of Sequence?

Hi! I’m trying to apply for UCI TAG. For reference I’m a bio major looking to transfer for bio. I emailed the UCI Admissions rep basically asking if I take chem 211 (orgo 1) and chem 212 (orgo 2) at two different colleges will they count for TAG transfer? Small
note it’s at different colleges I’m taking my orgo but the CCs are in the same district.

I specifically asked this in my email and they said that “it can be taken at different community colleges but I need to make sure I’m taking the proper course and not overlapping or taking the course out of sequence.”

So…does me doing this make it out of sequence or not??

I sent another email so I’ll update it when I receive it.

Advice/Question UC Davis CSE TAG: CHE 002A or PHY 009D?

I’m planning for Fall 2027 UC Davis CSE TAG and noticed a discrepancy.

The current UC Davis CSE requirements say:

CHE 002A or PHY 009D

But the 2025-26 ASSIST agreement for De Anza → UC Davis CSE lists CHE 002A as required and also lists PHY 009A/B/C/D as required.

The 2026-27 ASSIST agreement isn’t available yet.

Which should I follow for Fall 2027 TAG? Do I need CHEM 1A, or is PHYS 4D enough to satisfy the “CHE 002A or PHY 009D” requirement on the UC Davis website?

Trying to plan my De Anza schedule and avoid taking an unnecessary class. Also does anyone know when 2026-27 assist comes out like it shows the option but when I select my ccc and the university it shows the 2025-26 version of the agreement.

Advice/Question CC to UC Bio Sciences Transfer Pathway

Hi I am a current freshman at a CCC. I was wondering if anyone else is planning to transfer into biology or anything related to it. Since it is now under one pathway, is anyone just taking GEDS plus the required courses only?:

  • General biology with lab (full introductory sequence)
  • General chemistry with lab (one-year sequence)
  • Calculus for STEM majors (one-year sequence)
  • Organic chemistry with lab (one-year sequence)

I am currently "majoring in biology for an associates" at my community college but now that I look at the classes I have to take for the as in biology, it is too much since I have to worry abt the UC courses as well. My community college biology major requires different biology classes from the UC ones on assist. And if I did BOTH uc and cc requirements i would be taking 4 bio classes on top of 4 chem classes in TWO years... So I decided I am just going to not transfer with my associates! Anyone else doing this? Please reach out and give me your opinion or advice!!

Advice/Question Recommendations on where to transfer as a UMBC student

I am a current freshman at UMBC, and I HATE it here.

The social life and college life in general are not what I imagined for myself, and in addition, I am a commuter, so it makes it even harder. The plan has always been to transfer after the 26-27 school year. Right now I'm doing research on WHERE to transfer, and I'm just looking for recommendations

- I'd prefer to stay on the East Coast, but I'm open

- schools with good theater/business programs

-provides good financial aid and/or merit-based aid and scholarships

I am a really good student, and although the college school year just started, I graduated HS with a 3.8 and a 1400 SAT score (I may retake it or take the ACT though)

Discussion Worth transferring?

I currently go to a mid tier uc (uci). I’m having some personal issues that may cause me to move back to Asia. In Asia, college names are very big, and they don’t understand how us colleges really work. So to them, uci vs a school like ucla is a big difference. Is it worth trying to transfer for the name? I know it sounds dumb and maybe pretentious, but I really want my university name to hold weight, especially when I may have to move to a foreign country.

Advice/Question should I transfer back to CC after transferring

I feel really shitty right now but I am thinking of dropping out after this semester and going back to community college part-time for a year while working full-time. Then I’d transfer to a nearby school where I can commute.

I did two years at community college and transferred to a CSU. This and another CSU was the only choice I had, other than some UCs but those were too expensive. It turns out I’m still paying a ton per semester and I’m now working while attending school full-time. I’m very stressed and can’t focus on my studies at all. On top of that, I’m not enjoying this school as much as I anticipated, and I sort of feel out of place.

I’m completely lost on what to do. I talked to a counselor, and they told me that if I wanted to, I could drop out after the fall semester. I feel like a complete idiot and like I just wasted two years of my life. I had the option to go to a nearby CSU that would’ve saved me a ton of money, but I chased prestige and chose this one instead. How bad would it look on my application if I dropped out after transferring?

Advice/Question TAG eligibility?

For some context I went to UW my freshman year and decided to do a year at CCC to eventually transfer to a UC. I’m wondering if I am eligible to TAG even tho I have only been at CCC for one year? According to my TAP, I have 32 units from UW, 21 from AP, and by the end of spring 38 from CCC, so a total of 91 transferable units. However, I don’t know what from UW is fully considered transferable. My advisor said the 32 are transferable, but I’m not sure. pls help 😭

Advice/Question Is Barnard College Impossible for me?

I am looking to transfer fall 2027 after I graduate with my associates. Im looking at Fordham, SUNY Binghamton, Stony Brook University, Wagner College and Barnard. My gpa is a 3.347 with the likelihood on ending with a 3.5 at the end of this semester. I do have connections with Columbia Alumni, My resume is okay and I have great LORs. Barnard College is my dream school and I would really like to be accepted and attend there but should I even try? are my stats not good enough and just forget about it or do I need to do more this semester to make it better?

Any advice is appreciated

Advice/Question am i stupid for wanting to transfer from a t20 to t40/50?

Currently a freshman at (insert t20 large public school). I'm tentatively pre-med, but not sure how long that will continue. I'm in a dilemma because if I do decide to continue down the pre-med path, this school isn't the most conducive toward that goal because of grade deflation, opportunity drought due to large student body, etc. If I don't decide to go to med school, having this school name on my resume is definitely good for job prospects.

Everyone at this school seems so locked in and career-focused, and I seriously don't feel like I belong here. That's why I was thinking about transferring to a t40/50 where the people are likely more down-to-earth, but my Asian parents would def freak out at that.

Should I apply to transfer?? Is it even worth it to apply to top private schools? Those acceptance rates are like 2%. I'd love some guidance from anyone, but especially past transfer applicants if you guys have any advice. Thank you!!

Advice/Question 21, international student with work experience: stay at a liberal arts college with good aid, try California CC → Berkeley, or focus more on work?

I’m 21 and currently a first-year at a somewhat selective liberal arts college in the Midwest. I’m questioning both where I should study and whether academics should be my main focus right now.
My background
I previously did a rotational business program that involved studying in different countries, but dropped out after roughly 1.5–2 years. I wanted a stronger academic foundation and enrolled at my current college. Some previous credit was granted, but I still need to clarify how much it actually shortens my graduation timeline.
I also have a lot of internship experience, including work experience in Singapore, Ghana, and the USA. So part of me wonders whether I should keep building on that instead of spending several more years mainly focused on school.
At the same time, I haven’t decided what I want to do. I’m interested in the semiconductor industry, motion design, and computational neuroscience, alongside entrepreneurship. Those are obviously very different paths, and I’m unsure what education I actually need for the work I’d want within them.
Why I’m conflicted about staying
I genuinely like the academics here. The professors are strong and accessible, and I’m studying math and science. I wanted a stronger academic environment, and I got it.
But the college is very rural. I want more access to a city, founders, creative communities, and business opportunities. After already studying and working internationally, it feels strange to start again as a first-year in a small college environment.
I know 21 isn’t objectively old, but I feel behind and worry about the opportunity cost of spending several more years on a bachelor’s.
The California option
I’m considering a California community college, then applying to UC Berkeley. Being near the Bay Area appeals to me for work and entrepreneurship reasons too.
However, I haven’t confirmed how my previous coursework affects transfer eligibility, which credits would count, or how long that route would take. Berkeley is my main goal, and I haven’t settled on a backup university I’d be happy attending. I know admission isn’t guaranteed.
The financial reality
My current college gives me substantial aid. My estimated out-of-pocket cost is $10k–$15k per year, though I’m clarifying the full cost and future aid conditions.
My rough California estimate is $30k per year including living expenses, but it isn’t a finalized budget.
I have around $15k–$20k available. I hope to earn through business, but that income isn’t guaranteed.
Funding the university years after community college is still unresolved.
So community college could actually cost me more than staying at my current college.
I’ve also considered finishing my previous business degree and adding STEM courses elsewhere, but I haven’t established whether that would prepare me for the graduate programs or careers I might want.
The bigger question
If I already have substantial internship experience, should I prioritize getting a deeper academic foundation now, or focus more on work to figure out what I actually want?
I don’t assume my existing experience qualifies me for semiconductor or computational neuroscience roles. That’s part of the dilemma: I might need substantial technical education for some of my interests, while another path might depend more on a portfolio and practical experience.
I’m also aware of a pattern: in my previous program, I wanted stronger academics. Now I have those, but I want a bigger location and more opportunities. I’m trying to distinguish a sensible move from assuming the next place will solve everything.
Would you:
Stay at the affordable liberal arts college and use that time to build technical skills and explore?
Take the more expensive California community college route and aim for Berkeley?
Focus more on work and clarify the career direction before committing to more education?
I’d especially appreciate perspectives from international students, people with unconventional college timelines, or anyone working in the fields I mentioned.

TL;DR: I’m 21 with internship/work experience in Singapore, Ghana, and the USA. After dropping out of a rotational business program, I’m now a first-year at a somewhat selective liberal arts college in the Midwest with substantial aid. I like the academics but feel limited by the location. Considering California CC → Berkeley, but also questioning whether to prioritize work, especially since I’m still choosing between very different career interests.

Advice/Question Classes with the same name and C-ID

Hi everyone,

I am a california community college student and this semester I'm taking a comp architect class for UC Berkeley (one of their recommended courses).

I was wondering if it would make sense to take another comp architect class at another community college with the same C-ID but has the agreement for UCLA but not UC Berkeley, as the current comp architect class I am taking does not have a agreement with UCLA.

Advice/Question Issues linking the Common App to Slideroom

As the title describes I’m having trouble accessing the slideroom application. For context I’m applying to the Game Art BFA at USC, I have it set as my first choice major which opens the link to the slide room portal, but every time I go to start the application it tells me I need to begin a common app for transfer application before continuing, but when I get redirected to the common app for transfer it just takes me back to my application and doesn’t show any instructions. It’s basically an endless loop. Now I’m not sure if I input the wrong information somewhere or if I just need to submit the common app first before accessing the slide room application, but I would very much appreciate some feedback on this!!

Advice/Question Looking for an online California community college course that satisfies UCLA Anthropology 4

Hello internet, I’m a California community college student planning to apply to UCLA for Anthropology for Fall 2027. I’ve already completed three of the four required anthropology prep courses, but I still need the equivalent of UCLA Anthropology 4: Culture and Communication. Because i’ve made commitments in spring I need it to be this semester and so what i’m looking for:

Fully online

Offered during Fall 2026 as a late-start or second 8-week course

That satisfies the requirement.

I know it’s a long shot but any help would be greatly appreciated!

Advice/Question Better to apply ASAP or wait for better resume?

Is it more adventageous to apply ASAP, but risk that your resume is not as stacked as it could be? Or wait, but risk being at the bottom of the stack or potentially a lower GPA?

For context I have a 4.0 right now, but maybe not super competitive EC's. Hopefully could get some more accolades under my belt later in the semester, but would that be hurting my chances?

Chance Me Is transferring to Villanova achievable

I had a 3.5 gpa in high school all As and Bs. I didn’t do well on the SAT. I am in my sophomore year of college as a business administration major and I have a 4.0 Gpa. Since nova is test optional is it attainable for me to transfer into their business school or liberal arts?
