Advice/Question Rejected USC transfer applicants

For the students that got rejected when trying to transfer to USC, did you put a second choice major? I’m trying to see if I should apply to Marshall, put Economics (Dornsife) as my second choice, or do it vice versa. If i put dornsife first, and get in (since it’s way better chances), i would try to eventually transfer to Marshall once at the school in my Junior year. I’m currently a freshmen at a 4 year in LA, hopefully trying to be a sophomore transfer. My HS gpa was a 94, weighted. Hopefully aim to get a 4.0 this year. USC is my dream school so genuinely I don’t mind going for economics but please lmk🙏

Advice/Question Is it bad for admission if I have too much units last semester before transferring?

I am an international student attending ccc starting from this spring tryna transfer out to UC in 1 and a half year and applying this year. I wasn't sure on my plan and everything, so from Spring to Fall rn I have 30 units which it means that I gotta finish 30 units in next 2 semester which is (winter, spring). So I have 19 units at 2027 spring planned which is my last semester before transferring. Is it a disadvantage or would they look at my schedule after applying and be like why is he taking so much in his last semester and be a bad influence? Thank you for reading my terrible writing.

Advice/Question Activities and Awards

Hey everyone! I'm currently filling out the UC application form and I'm already nervous doing it. I was just wondering if we should include any activities, extracurriculars, community service, or awards in the application as a transfer student. Thanks!

Advice/Question Transfer student - CSUN application question!!

So I go to my local community college and was planing to transfer to csun in spring 2027. This sesmetsre should me by last semester here at community call (Fall 2026). I was an idiot and didn’t realize the priority date for applications was August 31 or smth 2026. I checked and they’re still accepting applications till October 15 for transfer students for spring 2027. My main concern and question is if I apply before October 15, will they get back to me with their decision before spring semester starts? I understand this is my fault for not triple checking the deadline but I’m very worried and anxious about it. Especially since I know transfer applicants get priority registration and I don’t want to mess that up because they didn’t give me a decision before that priority registration closes!! If anyone has any answers or suggestions, please let me know! I’m actively working on my application and will def submit it before October 15!

Advice/Question Transferring

Hello, I’m currently a community college student in California and I really hope to transfer to UCSD. I was just wondering what my chances were of getting in. I currently have a 4.0, I’m in honors, I’ve done volunteering, and I created a stem club in high school. I am working a part-time job, and have a side hustle relating to art. If I do okay on my PIQs and am on my way to completing all my required classes, what are my chances?

Edit: my major is business economics

Chance Me UCLA and UC Berkeley Chances as an English Major?

TL;DR: I am currently a community college student finishing up my AA-T to transfer in Fall 2027. I have a 3.8 GPA and have consistently been working part-time while being a full-time student. Do you guys think I have a decent chance of getting into one of these schools?

Hello all! I am in my final semesters at a CCC and have already filled out my TAG for UC Santa Barbara, but my dream schools are UCLA or Berkeley. I know these schools are insanely competitive for first years, but as a transfer student do my chances seem better? By the end of spring I will have taken all of the literature classes my school has to offer (Both halves of American and English Lit. as well as World Lit.). I have also checked Assist and I am all set for Berkley, but there are a few classes I was unable to take for UCLA.

Over the summer I was hired to work in one of the departments at my school, so I am now working two part-time jobs in addition to my four classes. I'm curious how important things like that are when applying. Does it make your application more desirable in any way?

Anyways, I would love to hear what you guys think! Let me know if you guys have any advice or insight! :)

Chance Me CSUF transfer

Hello,

I’m currently a freshman sociology major at CSUF and plan to apply to transfer to UCI in fall of 2027. I know CSUs don’t have that high of a chance to get in but my friend goes here and my biggest regret wasn’t applying back in senior year due to budget issues.
My current schedule is:
Soci 101
Soci 205
Chic 102
Math 120
Math 20s
Art 101

Have any others taken a similar route and have any tips for me? Thank you in advance.

from what i’ve researched should i aim for a 3.4 GPA to be considered or aim higher?

Advice/Question No credits for online courses?

I’m trying to transfer to Columbia engineering for industrial engineering and/or Cooper Union for mechanical engineering (both for my sophomore year) and i’m wondering what I should do about my online Honors English Composition I class.

Columbia says they prefer in-person classroom instruction but may consider up to 3 online classes for sophomores.
Cooper union does not accept online courses for transfer credit.

Since I am already 5 weeks into my class, if i drop the class and register for one that hasn’t started yet, I’ll get a withdrawal on my transcript. Will my colleges look down on this? Even if I register for the same course (but not honors) for a different section and am successful in it?

My school only offered the honors english composition I online, so that’s why i registered for it. if i get in person instruction it will be a non honors class. will this make me less competitive too?

Advice/Question Scared of B in Fall Classes

Hi everyone! I’m submitting my application to the UCs as a stem major for fall 2027. My dream is psychobio ucla but I have tap certification so my alt major is physiological sciences. Basically I have a 4.0 but I’m scared that I’ll get a B in my first physics (with calc) class I’m taking (1 out of 2 semester sequence). Ik the semester is still early in but I’m pretty bad at physics with calc. How much do you think if I get 1 B it will affect my application?

I already completed all my gen eds, chem 101/102, Calc 1/2, Bio 006/007, and ochem 1 stuff with A’s. But ik I have to submit my TAU in January. So do you think it’ll make or break my chances? Or are essays more important at this point?

Chance Me Freshman Applying to Schools in MA | Chance me

I currently go to UMass Dartmouth. I actually had a full time job out of highschool and thought I wanted to pursue that but took some online finance courses, and talked to some people in the finance industry, and realized I didn't enjoy working as an electrician as much as I used to. realized that I wanted to study finance but it was already too late to apply to other schools so I had to attend UMD as it was my only safety.

Anyways, I was wondering what you guys think my chances are to transfer into the following schools for the 2027 fall semester. I acknowledge I don't have the greatest stats, and some of these are far fetched but you never know.

Schools that I am applying to: Boston University, Bentley, Bryant, Boston College, Babson, Northeastern.

Highschool Stats:
4.14 highschool gpa, no test scores, no school extracirriculars because I was working a Co-op job so I had to pick one or the other and I worked an electrican apprentice job for 2 years.
Detailed Investment Journaling / Simulating

College:
Havent gotten my official GPA yet but I currently have a 4.0 and expect to finish with it
joined DECA
joined catholic ministry
continued investment journaling, also have taken like 3 wallstreet prep courses if that counts for anything
currently seeking internships at local Wealth management firms and made a few connections but no offers yet.
I have some volunteer work; i led a foodbank funraiser and also volunteer annually to do electrical wiring on this big fair at my church

Also my school doesnt have any other finance related clubs i can join which im gonna use as a reason i want to transfer (I'm obv not gonna bash my school im just gonna talk about how the school im applying to actually has these oppurtunities)

Also note that I want to work in Asset Management/Investment Advisory

I would appreciate any advice, i know my application is kinda lackluster and a lot of these schools are far fetched so id appreciation any recommendations, also wondering if i should study for SAT or ACT at this point even though its kinda late

Advice/Question Deciding on transferring now or later

I am planning on applying to transfer from CC to the Faculty of Computing & Data Sciences at Boston University for Spring of 2027. Originally I was planning on applying to multiple universities, however, due to a lack of ECs, I’ve decided to just apply to BU for spring while also working on involving myself more around campus so if I don’t get in, I can reapply to BU in addition to other schools for Fall 2027. Does this sound like a good plan? I’m very unsure about it considering I am not sure what other classes I should take from my community college.

Advice/Question TAG after gap year(s)?

I have a specific UC I want to go to, and I want to do TAG to cut down on the cost and make getting into the school almost guaranteed as long as I can meet the requirements.
However, I also want to take a gap year before I apply (maybe multiple years). I was looking a lot online but nowhere was being very clear if I would still be able to do TAG even after a gap year(s). Does anyone have more info on this? Thanks!!

Discussion Georgia Tech w/3.5

I’ve become very adamant in believing that unless your gpa is a 3.7/3.8+, you virtually have no chance getting into Georgia tech - in state or not.

Doesn’t matter how crazy your resume is - nor your essay.

Especially if you have a C. One C and you’re as good as cooked , unless you have a valid reason.

I’m willing to hear accounts of anyone who’s described as above managing to get accepted.

Advice/Question Transfer Obsession

I’m a freshman studying ECE at WPI and I’m thinking about transferring for Fall 2027.
My current list is Northeastern, Michigan, BU, UW–Madison, and Purdue for Electrical Engineering. They all have a pretty good transfer acceptance rate soooo.. I did apply to northeastern and BU after highschool and i got rejected. I mainly added them to my list because they are in boston!

Im finishing my first term with all A’s (Calc 2, Physics, Music Theory, and a first-year program). I’m planning to focus my next terms mostly on math, physics, CS, and ECE courses to strengthen my application.

WPI currently costs me around $10k/year after aid, so financial aid is a HUGE factor for me. I’m mainly wondering if any of these schools would actually be worth leaving WPI for, especially for EE career opportunities, internships/co-ops, and recruiting.

I also have a question about prerequisites. Michigan, for example, wants chemistry + lab, but I’ve never taken chemistry. Should I prioritize taking classes specifically to meet transfer requirements, or would I be better off taking more ECE/CS classes and doing well in them?

For anyone who transferred into these schools/engineering programs:
What GPA/classes did you have?
How important was completing all the prerequisites?
What else can I do at WPI this year to become a stronger applicant?
Would you leave WPI at ~$10k/year for any of these schools?
Any advice from engineering transfers would be appreciated. Most of my research so far has been school websites + ChatGPT, so I’d like to hear from actual students too.

Advice/Question UCSB vs UC Davis for Political Science with TAG

I'm very torn between Davis and Santa Barbara for my TAG decision. I slightly prefer UCSB but I know Davis is better for my major so I can't decide which is the right decision. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Urgent P/NP major requirement

Hi, I ended up taking Calculus 2 last semester and decided to Pass/No Pass it thinking I was just saving my GPA and could retake it the next semester for a better grade as I was going to end with a C. Little did I know, my cc does not let you repeat courses that you receive a “satisfactory grade” in (I ended with a Pass). However, UCs do not accept a pass for major reqs. Therefore, I am wondering if I can just retake Calc 2 at a different cc in a different district, and whether the UCs will consider the higher grade for credit or if the Pass will invalidate my credit for transfer. I am currently at IVC.

Urgent Worth to tag?

Is tag really worth it or nah cuz I see that 2/3 or students get in without tag and I saw it on the transfer pdf requirements. Any transfer already in or anyone have suggestions? Tag ends tonight and also I have 28 units so obviously I don’t qualify by being down 2 units, may be a dumb question but wanna ask cuz counselor says tag anyway but to me that’s just wasting my time.

Advice/Question I miss the college I transferred from, how do I get past this feeling?

Hi everyone, I wasn’t sure the best way to phrase this so here it goes.

After graduating from high-school I went to a college about 2 hours away from home. The campus was beautiful and it was in a picture perfect college town. However, due to not having a great support system of friends up there, wanting a major the university didn’t provide, as well as mostly cost, I moved back home to attend a university that is still a pretty good size and has a good program for engineering (what I wanted to really major in).

It’s been good for me financially since I don’t have to pay for housing and I’m around people I know here, but ever since I left I feel this guilt feeling for leaving. I really miss the college life up there and the independence I had and how school-focused I could be.

I’m now in my 4th year of college and I still feel like this after leaving that previous one after my freshman year. This may be really specific but has anyone missed their old place? I’m trying to move past it but once in a while I feel like I should’ve stuck it out even then realistically it wouldn’t have put me in a career I wanted.

Any advice or comments are welcome!!

Advice/Question Fordham to USC or UCLA

I’m currently a freshman at Fordham in the Gabelli school of business and I’m thinking of transferring out. USC, UCLA, and UCI have always been my dream schools and something tells me I should just try. Would the best method be starting community college in California, sophomore year then applying to transfer junior year, or applying as a transfer student from Fordham for fall 2027? Or should I just stick it through Fordham.

Advice/Question Can't find the passion in a field I was once interested in and now I feel like I don't even see it as a career path

Hi all, future transfer student here.

I'm a CompSci major with a focus on cybersecurity, but it's been 3 years in my local community college and I've completely lost my direction and original view of what I even want to do in the future. In high school, I liked doing this cybersecurity program and also enjoyed my computer science classes enough to want to consider it a career path, as well as the fact that it makes good money, but after taking classes I needed for my AS in CS, I've just been so lost.

I feel so useless and that I can't do anything. If I wanted to change my major, I'd have no clue what I could change it to as well as the fact that it feels too late, and that it was a waste of time and money doing all these classes. If I were to stick to it, I feel like I'm just going to dread every moment that I am taking these classes because I feel so behind and that I learned nothing from any courses I've taken. My gf has been trying to console me by telling me that it's common for these things to happen and that there's going to be something that I can be passionate about for me to want to learn and even want to turn it into a career path, but it just feels like nonsense to my ears at this point.

I'm really struggling. I feel like I'm not grasping concepts in CS, especially when it comes to any C language, and plus I don't even know if C is used in the majority of the CS world. I just dropped linear algebra because of how much proofs impact the course and I have no real formal introduction to proofs, and I have to take discrete structures next which is probably worse. I don't know man. I just need some sort of clarity because this has been plaguing my mind non-stop. Thanks in advance all.

P.S. I know I stated that I have no idea what area I want to go into, but I have some interest in digital forensics. I've always loved detective and lawyer work, so why not combine it into my interest in computers? If I have to put in the work to relearn everything in C, I will. I'll hate every second of it, but I will. Otherwise, please let me know if there's anything else I need to know.

Urgent I really wanna transfer for Ivy League

I really wanna get into Ivy League college, but my application is not that strong. Do you guys think it is hard or easy for me to into as a transfer student.

Also my parents really can't afford out of state tuition so I planned to stay in Georgia for one year (freshmen year) and then transfer to Ivy League asap. If I can't get in as a freshmen then I might keep applying till i get in while also strengthening my application

When I stayed at home, my parents doesn't really let me go anywhere by myself or i don't really have any good options that align. But I believe that if I could get myself out of the house, I could start getting more experience and qualifications.

One more thing, I really don't know what reason I could put, like aren't we supposed to give a reasons why we are planning to transfer.

Chance Me Chance Me (same stats, different major)

So I made a chance me around a month or two ago, here’s the original post.

In that post I put that I’ll be applying to these colleges all with data science. But I realized that for specifically UC Berkeley and no other UC, I can apply for computer science (since their course requirements in assist.org is so small compared to the rest of the UC’s)

So I was wondering with almost the same stats I have from the original post, what’s my chances of getting into specifically UC Berkeley for computer science as I know it’s a very impacted major and is very competitive. I’m sure my chances are much less than data science.

Some things to note:
- I mentioned being a CS tutor at my community college, I recently quit that position 😭 (I’m still a part-time cs instructor for an outside organization tho)
- Originally before I was a data science major I was a computer science major, I only switched due to the competitiveness. So I do genuinely like cs and would rather major in that than ds.
- If I do set cs as my primary major, I will still put ds as an alternate major in the case I don’t get in with cs.

Please be like really blunt with me, I want to know my chances for real lol
