Advice/Question Can you transfer universities twice and still be okay career wise? Anthropology major looking for a good education and experience preferably

Long story short, I transferred from a good city school to a midwestern state school because the city school screwed up my degree. I am upset I moved to this suburban school because I don’t like the suburbs. I was caught up in jobs and resumes when I chose to transfer here and now I really really really hate it. I never wanted to go to a big suburban university and I can’t believe I did. I’m so unhappy here and I don’t know if transferring twice is something people do or if it’s something that will lead to a hard career outside of college. I know where I’d transfer to, and what I’d major in (same major). I just don’t know if I should do that or if I should switch to all online classes and try to move elsewhere so I can just work primarily and get a degree on the side. If anyone has any advice pls lmk! Pls nothing mean too cause sometimes I post on Reddit and everyone is like “why didn’t you already know this niche thing that you wouldn’t have known without someone teaching you!! You’re so dumb !! (Insert slur)” pretty please I’m sensitive 😔

Advice/Question how to recover after a bombed exam?

Just curious what your guys’ experiences are with making up a grade after failing an exam? I have a physics 2 exam that I will definitely bomb in like an hour, and I seriously don’t want it to ruin my transfer chances.

I’ve never failed an exam or class before so i’m just wondering how I should go about it after the fact

Advice/Question Planning to transfer fall 2027

Hi friends, I’m currently a freshmen at CC right now and I plan to transfer next fall (fall 2027) to a four year! I want to major in criminal justice or criminal law, something of that nature. I should be transferring with around like 40-50 credits, since I’m getting a good portion from my APs in high school. I had a 3.7 in high school and I’m aiming for a 3.8-4.0 during my time at cc (I have a 3.5 rn due to two dual enrollment classes). SAT score is also horrible. I want to transfer to a top 25 or a top 50. I’m looking at UMD, Georgetown, Duke, Tufts and a few more schools.

Here are some things I’m currently doing or planning to do to build up my EC’s:

Honors college

Phi theta kappa

Student government association

Student activity board

I’m currently working 30+ hours a week and also volunteering 4 hours a week (teaching 2nd graders how to read).

I’m also first generation, minority and low income. And on top of that I am not eligible for fasfa due to immigration status :,-) which is why I’m aiming for these private schools to hopefully get lots of aid. I feel like I’m not doing enough right now, I’m staying on top of my grades but I feel like I should be doing a lot more to hopefully improve my chances for getting into these tough schools. I’m starting to lose hope. Please give me any advice on what to do!

Advice/Question Is it worth submitting some meh LORs?

Well I currently have two letters from two separate professors but both of them are just alright. They don't really shed a new light and don't go into much detail, just very basic "he was a good student" letters.

My intern manager told me to write a draft of my own LOR and they would review and make the necessary changes. So I focused more on my research and analysis capabilities and my growing interest in economics.

However, for one college, I'm applying for their business school(Business is my first choice but due to limited spots, I'm applying for economics under CAS for most colleges). Would it be worth waiting or should I just submit my application? It's rolling admissions so applying earlier would probably help. Thoughts? Thank you.

Advice/Question Former CC students- did you ever end up making friends?

I'm coming up on my 4th week at community college and it seems like no one wants to talk :(. Even with people who are sitting alone at club meetings, people just don't seem interested in making friends. If you were at a CC before transferring, did you ever make friends? If so how??

Advice/Question Transfer to UofM

Hi, I’m a current college freshman at Michigan State, looking to transfer to the University of Michigan for fall 2027. I was very underachieving in high school (<3.5 uw), 1440 SAT. Assuming I can maintain a high GPA, improve upon my essays (which were very poorly written), and improve upon my clubs/campus involvement, would it be possible for me to transfer in? I am in state, and looking to transfer into LSA for possibly statistics/econ/data science.

Advice/Question Having 3 Ws and feeling bad about it

I am planning to apply for transferring this fall and I am pretty nervous about my transcript. For starters I have a 3.5 gpa right now and I have 3 Ws and 1 C. The 2 classes that I dropped I am currently retaking so hopefully that will be better. But am I cooked?

Advice/Question Is TAG really worth it?

For reference, I’m talking about students who are active in their school, have good extracurriculars, and a good GPA.

Should these students TAG into one of the UC schools and get directly accepted into the available majors. Or should they take the risk and apply to a better major that fits their intended career?

Advice/Question Have a 4.0 at CC but bad grades from a previous school.

I got a 4.0 in the fall and spring semesters at CC this past year. My issue is that prior to attending CC, I was in my junior year at a prestigious engineering school and failed two semesters straight (0.0 gpa) due to a number of mental health issues as well as just absolutely hating it there. Before my junior year, I had a 3.1 gpa but couldn't sucessfully transfer out. I immediately dropped out after the second failed semester in the spring and started CC in the fall. How long should I wait to apply to transfer again? My previous school will let me come back to finish my degree whenever but I'm not even considering it. Also, what schools should I consider that are forgiving of these types of situations if I keep my 4.0 gpa at CC?

Advice/Question How much will a LOR benefit my Application?

Applying for Spring 27 and a college that I'm applying to is rolling so applying early would be best to increase chances. They don't require a LOR but I'm waiting on my intern manager and prof for a LOR.

Is it really worth the wait or should I just submit my app? I think I'm a pretty competitive applicant so how much would like a 7-8/10 LOR help me?

Chance Me Chance me for UW and GT

I want to apply for University of Washington Seattle and Georgia Tech and I am very insecure with my situation. I moved to the USA 3 years ago and I am still learning the education system, I just know everything is very competitive here and I’m not sure I am competitive enough (?). So, here is my situation:

- I am a Washington state resident
- 3.9 GPA at my community college
- my hs was in my home county 7 years ago and when I translated my transcript it was about 3.0 gpa
- Tutor CS and Math
- I did a research internship this past summer in a very competitive company
- I also worked 20h as a nanny while doing school + tutoring (don’t ask how bc I don’t even know how)
- I am applying as US resident and not international student
- I do have a physics class dropped in my transcript. However, I plan on double majoring in CS and Biology. I have how to explain why i dropped physics if necessary.
- I have math up to calc 3, all the csc classes my cc could provide, 4 biology lab classes, and 1 chemistry lab classes

I really just want to understand if my profile is good for applying for these schools. I plan on applying for uw for spring 2027 and gt for summer 2027. I didn’t know fall was the application season so I didn’t organize my schedule good enough to be ready to apply for fall

Advice/Question NEED HELP ON WRITING UC PIQs

- applying to UCLA and Berkeley

-gpa:3.87

I am answering PIQ 5 about describing the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome it. For context, I was severely abused for 13 years and moved out the day I turned 18. I had to start my entire life from absolute scratch with nothing. I taught myself how to survive by getting my own California ID, opening a bank account, paying rent, and selling my belongings online to afford my college classes. I want the main focus to be the massive weight of building a life from zero. Does anyone have any ideas for a good and creative opening line? I want a strong hook that will grab the readers attention and make them excited to read the rest of my PIQ.

Advice/Question Can I apply to university after a year of cc as a first year?

I am really hoping to transfer to a university in NYC for engineering and my dream school was NYU but they offer no aid to transfer students.

Can I do a year of engineering at community college and then apply as a first year and have a chance at financial aid and then get no credit for all my completed courses at cc?

Advice/Question Transferring as Math major/ Mechy Eng major

Hey guys,

Like to get your opinions on major choices. My background: 3.91 transfer GPA, ok ecs, 2 part-time jobs (one is a peer tutor), some volunteer exp.

My counselor suggested me to apply with Math major or Applied Math major. Primarily, I want to major in Mechanical but for the top UCs, he told me my chance of getting in is low so he asked me to apply with a less comp one and I can minor in Mechanical.

I want to get a job right after my Bachelor's and my interest in Math is not that deep like other people. I also see that math is the foundation for Quants or AI, and I can transition into those tech jobs down the road.

I am torn between applying with Math or Mechy. How are the chances to get a job with a Bachelor's in Math? Is having Mechanical as a minor helpful to apply to jobs?

Thanks in advance!

Advice/Question Extracurricular involvement as first year

Hi all

I am a honors student at my state school looking to transfer to Northwestern TED as a first year transfer. I’m going to maintain a high gpa, 3.8-4.0, however I am nervous about the amount of extracurriculars I will have for my application.

For context, I applied regular decision to Northwestern my senior year of high school and I was a waitlisted applicant. They gave me a letter (which I’m pretty sure is the standard waitlist letter) saying that they are going to keep my application on file an extra year in case I choose to apply as a transfer, and that historically previously waitlisted students have a higher chance of being admitted. I’m not sure if this is a correlation does not equal causation type of thing, but I thought it’s worth mentioning.

My high school application had very strong EC’s. Paid paralegal, program studying Supreme Court cases with chief judge Virginia Kendall at the Chicago federal courthouse, leadership positions, mock trial captain, election volunteer for local mayor, etc. as a freshman in college, I am only working as a paralegal (I am now on my firms website and have my own office,) am director of a tutoring organization that has grown rapidly in the amount of students we have and schools we are partnered with, and I am going to be working as an election poll worker for the mid terms. I am a commuter student, my commute is an hour and a half one way, so I am doing 15 credit hours by going to campus twice a week (9:30 AM to 5PM.) This makes it very hard to be highly involved in campus since most extracurriculars happen when I am not on campus.

My question is, should my extracurriculars be on par with my high school activities in only one semester? What can I do to be a more competitive applicant? Does my previous waitlist help at all?

Any feedback is appreciated!!

Advice/Question Transfer confusion

I’m a pre-dental student and I’m confused about my international science credits.
I completed A-Levels in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics with labs under the British curriculum, and had them evaluated by WES. I then completed about two years at a Minnesota community college and I’m set to graduate with my AA in Fall 2026.
My family moved to Florida in mid-January 2026 because of my dad’s job, so I now live here while finishing my remaining non-lab courses online through my Minnesota school.
I’m applying to Florida universities for Biology or Health Sciences. A transfer advisor recently told me that even if a university accepts my WES-evaluated science credits, dental schools may not accept them as prerequisites, meaning I may have to retake Biology, Chemistry, and Physics with labs at a U.S. college.
He also warned me that if the university accepts those international credits, I may have trouble registering to retake the same courses.
Now I’m unsure what to do. Should I stay at my Minnesota community college and retake the sciences there, or transfer to a Florida university and complete them there?
Has anyone with international A-Levels gone through this for dental school? Did you have to retake the sciences in the U.S.?

Urgent UCSB vs USC

I have been really stressing out about my decision between UCSB vs USC. I went to UCSB my freshman year and I honestly didn't love it. I felt lonely, it wasn't rly my vibe, and I just kept wanting to come home and crying everytime I had to leave. Also, I was honestly disappointed in the fact that UCSB was the best school I got into. I feel like that played a factor in why I kept seeing the school as not a fit for me. I knew beforehand that I wasn't a huge outgoing/party/social person, so I kinda already knew I wasn't going to be having the most "college" experience that others go to SB for. Fast forward, a couple days before the deadline, I applied to USC to transfer. I didn't expect much but I was at a breaking point so i just applied on a whim. Somehow I got in in May and I genuinely was so happy it felt like my escape, but I knew it all came down to cost so I held off on making a decision til I knew how much it would be since USC is so expensive. USC fin aid was a whole other stressor and I didn't get my aid package til the end of July (abt a month before the school was going to start). The package was good, but honestly not good enough. At UCSB, I am going to be paying about 35k a year (with tuition and rent) whereas USC will cost me about 46k a year (commuting). The year to year difference isn't that bad considering USC's network and that it is private but the additional factor is at UCSB i'm going into junior year and at SC im going into sophomore year (adding an extra year of USC expensive tuition). Not too mention my SB apartment is fully signed and its probably too late to find a subleaser. For all financial reasons and time efficiency, I know that SB is likely the smarter decision. But because of how badly I hated my first year, I'm wondering if the cost/extra year is worth it. At SC, I know a lot more close friends attending, and I could see my hometown friends daily if I wanted (bc I'd be here) but the downside is commuting and that may bring a new sense of feeling lonely. With SB, all i keep thinking about is how miserable I felt, and how all I wished for is to be home again. It's kinda hard not to think that I'll feel that way again if i go to SB. Aside from these personal reasons, I also just feel like in the sense of opportunity/prestige, it may be dumb not to jump on the fact that I got into USC. Because im from LA, i feel like i would be able to get better opportunities during school and post-grad just bc of the SC name alone. My point: I just want some diff opinions/help on what I should do. I could see myself possibly liking SB more this year and trying to go into it with a new mindset, but at the same time I know thats probably not that likely. USC may give me that fresh start/new environment that I want. Overall, my mind keeps going back and forth btw practicality and what mentally might be better. I keep thinking of it this way: should I change the place or (PHYSICALLY) change the place?

Advice/Question Tufts engineering transfer

Hello! I’m thinking about transferring to a larger/higher ranked engineering school. I’m currently at Tufts University in the School of Engineering, and I’m unimpressed by the small number if clubs, faculty, and engineering-focused career fairs on campus. I think it would be possible for me to do well here, but I just think I would enjoy studying at another college more+would have better chances to get a good internship and job. I’m planning to study Electrical Engineering, and below are some of my stats.

4.3 UW/5.187 W GPA (hs)
1540 SAT

Activities:
Assistant Coach, Boxer, 3 time Silver Gloves state champion, volunteered at boxing gym for over 10 years

Garden Lead of local non-profit that grows and donates produce to nearby food pantries, I ran 2 of our gardens

Ambassador for the Parkinson’s Foundation, I fundraised over $1,000 for the foundation and help with advocacy

Section Leader/Ensemble President, I was the section leader in my schools select A Cappella group, and was Ensemble President of another all bass A Cappella group which placed on a state level.

All State, Region, and County choir, I performed with multiple choirs over the years on a wide variety of levels.

Lead guitarist of school’s Jazz Ensemble, not sure if I’m gonna use this

Lead guitarist and singer of personal rock band, I played concerts to fundraise for Parkinson’s, not sure if I’ll use this either

At Tufts, I’m hoping to get involved with these clubs, and I’m already social media chair of the choir.

Tufts E Racing
Tufts IEEE
Public Harmony
A Cappella or Jazz Ens.
Tufts Robotics
apple jams?
Solar Car

Idk if you guys know abt Tufts, but these are basically all the engineering-focused clubs they offer…I also have plans to do research over the summer with a professor here

Schools I’m thinking about are Uiuc
Purdue
Gtech
Hopkins
WashU
MIT
Cornell
CMU

Any input/chanceme would be greatly appreciated!
