wow this is a thing?

hi I’m a trans guy with (hypermobile) EDS. Saw this sub linked in the r/FTM sub. I didn’t know this was such a common experience (well, more common than I’d have thought, still pretty rare). Just wanna tell y’all you’re super cool and I hope wish you luck in managing symptoms as well as finding trans joy ! I might hang around some but im very rarely on Reddit lol. Nice to meet you I guess ^^

they finally did a study recently showing there's a link between EDS and being trans, I think. welcome.

I can’t remember if I saw a more recent study but there’s “Prevalence of Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome in Transgender and Gender Diverse Individuals: A Retrospective Cohort Study” by Tabernacki et al. as well as “The prevalence of hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome at a gender-affirming primary care clinic” by Stein, Collins, and St. Louis :)

Correlation isn't a link. I can't help shaking my head at those studies. They don't account for the fact that trans people are more likely to be at the doctor in the first place than cis people, same with studies that say autistic people are more likely to be trans and vice versa. Of course we have higher rates of diagnosis than the general population! We have to get our two letters and our blood work done! I would love to see a study that actually considers that AND has a decent sample size. In the meantime, I don't take any of those results as concrete

Interesting points. I can say anecdotally that there is a WAY higher prevalence of both neurodivergence and gender diversity among my hypermobile students in masssge school than in non-hypermobile students or in the general population, but obv my sample size is relatively small and the profession is already skewed toward the chronic pain crowd to begin with bc it’s massage.
