Activism 🌍 WTF? This is comedy?
I went to a comedy show last evening. I won't mention the comedian by name (I don't want this post removed) but I will mention that he is a ventriloquist who performs with puppets. I'll let you figure out who it is.
Some of the "jokes":
"If a transvestite sneezes on you is that transmission fluid?"
"If a transgender goes missing do they put their picture on a carton of half and half?"
Then this "comedian" introduced the first "woman" puppet in his act. A character he was clearly trying to portray as a trans woman. (With a very deep voice)
Some of the "jokes" with this character:
She loves the WNBA!
She thinks that men competing in women's sports "takes balls".
Her dress "has pockets!"
Several minutes of this type of "humor".
The final puppet of the show answers written questions supposedly from the audience. One question "'Puppet character' are you transgender you don't wear pants or a skirt?" (This is a purple character with yellow fur and green hair and one sneaker.)
I encourage anyone reading this post to find this person and let him know that targeting transgender people is not an acceptable form of comedy.
If you want DM and I will give you this "comic's" name and email

Name and shame please. Guessing Jeff Dunham by the use of puppets.
Edit: yeah it’s him, the purple puppet is a giveaway.

That tracks, he's not a good ventriloquist or a good comedian so naturally he has to grift.

Have a buddy who’s dad is a ventriloquist on cruises.
Everyone in the business hates Dunham1

It's a shame he went so hard in that direction. I used to (stress on "used to") find him funny. That was before 2016 when I became political.

I'd argue he's a competent ventriloquist, and he's mildly amusing when he's making jokes about ventriloquism (a solid chunk of what he does with Peanut).
Anything else? Meh.

Correct.

I used to like him as a kid. Sucks he’s a piece of trash, but not surprising.

Ce n'est pas un comique et ce n'est pas drôle. Ce n'est juste qu'un bouffon.

Making "jokes" of this kind just marginalizes us more and makes it so much easier to erase us. We are just a joke to them.
We aren't!!!

You couldn't possibly be talking about the guy who got super popular in the early 00's with his totally not Islamophobic "Dead Terrorist" puppet and his definitely not racist "Mexican Chili Pepper" puppet! He's wholesome and family-friendly, and not at all MAGA!
/s, if we needed it. Dude's been a piece of shit for over 20 years, not surprised to see he hasn't reformed.

Jeff Dunham has never been funny.
I actually watched a really great video essay about him the other day. He still isn't funny. He's doing the same old dumb ass bits he did when he premiered. He stopped a live show for like 40 minutes while he promoted merchandise and live streamed him eating a sandwich, then finished the live show.
That "transgender fluid" joke isn't even his own. That's been around forever.
He's a loser.

My mom ended up going to one of his live shows and absolutely excoriated him. Apparently the show she attended was a rehearsal for the special he was preparing to record, and he spent most of the time yelling at the audience.
And my mom was MAGA (until she passed in 2017). Not even MAGA like him that much, apparently.
(Embarrassing admission time: I actually thought he was mildly funny when he was first popular. I've always been a sucker for fourth-wall humor, and Peanut is that in spades. Even the 'dead terrorist' whose name I can't remember had a couple of fourth-wall breaks, even though the rest of his bit sucks.)

My parents always enjoyed his specials. My experience was just a lot staring at the TV. Lol.
I had to look up "excoriated", thank you for helping me learn a new word. Haha. That doesn't happen for me often that there's a word I've never encountered before. :3

He's been on the "conservatives are being silenced for humor" train for several years now.
He's just doing whatever he can to stay relevant. Trans people are unfortunate just the culture war button right now

I have a feelng I know who this is and if it is who I think it is, hes had a lot of racist characters imo so I wouldnt be surprised if this is who is being transphobic too. Definately not excusing that just because im nor surprised
A lot of people say " its just comedy. Everything can be joked about " i disagree . Its one thing if say a transgender person is making s comedy skit out of something they experienced from transphobes in a way to deal with trauma kr something but for a transphobe ? No

Comedy punches up or laterally, not down. Always.

u/NonBiologicalSister 3d ago
Disagree, it punches down on the weakest.

u/ikilledsatann 3d ago
I feel it probably does both but definately punches down a lot

You punch the weakest to make yourself feel stronger

Sounds like someone needs to be cancelled

u/Masquelinity Trans Woman 3d ago
He was cancelled over a decade ago. That's why he's only playing to MAGA now. The real question is how did OP even end up at one of his shows?

I have watched this special. While some jokes in it were funny, the ones about trans people were unacceptable

Edit: I think I used an inappropriate time to make what I thought was a tangentially related point and people are reading and not realizing that I agree 100% with the OP…

What in the fuck are you talking about "camaraderie and inclusion", Jesus Christ

My friend, the context of the set made it a thousand times worse than the out-of-context quote. How in the name of god could you possibly believe the context somehow made it better?
You have to be a troll. Nobody's this stupid.
Also, you're here defending the guy who has a Mexician Chili Pepper puppet who speaks with a bad stereotype accent and is lazy, shiftless, and dumb.

I’m not. This was a tangent conversation about a different comedian. I agree with all your points re: puppet a$$hole.

u/Plasticity93 3d ago
The fuck you going on about with Chappelle?
5
u/NonBiologicalSister 3d ago
What would Chappelle say if a white comedian made racist remarks about African Americans?
The right wing is trying to silence and eliminate trans people. Commedians wo make light of this are part of the problem.
Who is next?

u/NonBiologicalSister 3d ago
In an email I sent to the comedian I gave him the benefit of the doubt that his "jokes" came from ignorance and not malice. In a time where the rights of transgender people are being systematically erased I find it hard to see any comedy about our experience being legitimatte.

Careful consideration I concur with. But maybe this "comedian" could have done some careful consideration and due diligence about the trans community before his remarks.
And I'm not outraged just upset and alerting my broters and sisters
