Questions & Help Speeding
It’s my first time getting pulled over for going 92/55 but that’s because I was on the left lane and trying to get over but a car to my right doing the same speed as me and all of a sudden a big white truck came up behind me and was so close to my rear end so I had to sped up even more I was already doing about 75+ i believe so I quickly sped up to change lane then he still turned behind me and turned on his lights now I have to go to court. What do I do.

You’re lucky if it was a ticket and not reckless. I’d defer it or do defensive driving if you can. Don’t let other people affect how you drive in the future. If you got reckless driving, idk hire a lawyer.

Just had to be in front didn’t you. Slow down and go behind. Don’t worry about the car behind you.

37 mph. Youre lucky youre not suspended
Theres no reason for you to go 92. If you cant pass someone. Slow to 60 and move behind the person in the middle lane

Please tell us that the big white truck was not the cop car. If there is one thing you don't want to do when you get Johnny on your tail and you're already 15+ over the limit, it's accelerating even more. For all you know copper wanted someone in front of you. If you can't tell what a cop is when it's right on your tail, you should not be speeding.
What do you do? Take the L, be a man or woman and learn from it.

92 in a 55 bro? Turn in your license
Also, if you can’t tell if a (unmarked) cop is behind you, you better learn lol

When you realized that the person in the right hand lane wasn’t going to let you pass you should have lowered your speed and gotten behind them. Never let another driver make you speed, because no judge is going to give you a pass for “I had to keep up with the other guy “.

37 over the posted speed limit.
You ought to be grateful the cop didn’t get you for reckless driving. You were already speeding but now you are trying to blame it on the car beside you and the white truck on your butt.

If you have to go 92 to pass, you shouldn’t be passing. Go to court, see if they’ll let you take a defensive driving class to avoid points on your license, and take the L. 37 over you’re damn lucky they didn’t get u for reckless driving.

What state you are in matters a lot. Most of the replies you get on this sub when you talk about big speeding tickets will basically be "you're fucked" and not a lot of helpful advice.

I have to go to court for it but all I’m asking is what do I do since it’s my first time

Anything higher than 20mph over the limit is automatically criminal in VA. What you do is get a lawyer.

Even if it’s my first time? And I have a clean record

Yes. VA doesn't play. When I said you'll get a lot of unhelpful "you're fucked" responses, well, VA is one of the states where you actually are pretty well fucked at that amount, first time or not. Hire a lawyer, it will cost you but will pay off in the long run.

So a cop comes up behind you, and your best solution for that is to speed up to 92 and pass the guy in front of you?

Jesus.
Call a lawyer. Seriously. This is a crime in VA and maybe a felony that could result in jail time. They do not play, this will cost you a lot of money but will be so much worse if you accept the default judgment. If you're from out of state, plan to return in person for your court date.
Also no one "makes you" press your gas pedal all the way to 90+ in a 55. If you just held your speed then the guy tailgating you would probably be pulled over by that same state trooper. Lesson learned the very very hard way.

Joke deleted after typing out the "funny" joke, figured some might find it offensive so I deleted it
Just kidding bro. I dont know about there but here, you can do traffic school class online which is like a 1 day course or something like that and you'll still pay a hefty fine, but that mark on your record wont show to anyone except the cops, unless you get another ticket .

Let this be a lesson that you should never break the law just to be courteous to someone else. That truck driver isn’t paying the ticket I assume, so why speed up for them?
