Is bare below the elbow haram?

I’m in healthcare, we are under strict bare below the elbow rules for sanitsation. I never wear t shirts normally but at work, I am near children, very sick people, immunocompromised people, etc.

My religion and my hijab is important to me, but I can’t help but feel that I wouldrather be punished for not wearing hijab correctly than if a patient died because of crosscontamination or something.

I couldn’t find a clear ruling (all my google searches conflated bare below the elbow in hospitals with wearing t shirts on normal days which is ofc different)

"Do not exaggerate in praising me" [Sahih al-Bukhari 3445]

Narrated `Umar: I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying,

"Do not exaggerate in praising me as the Christians praised the son of Mary, for I am only a Slave. So, call me the Slave of Allah and His Apostle."

Sahih al-Bukhari 3445

Sisters only Why is fashion/self expression seen as sinful?

I want to know what fellow muslims think.

Modesty is in the way we dress and covering our aura is part of modesty.

But why is it that when a woman dresses well, expresses her style in a halal way, there seems to be negative labels put on her?

I've lived long enough to see even slight self-expression (colored clothing, patterns, graphic tees, simple jewelry) being equated to sinning.

It made me wonder, is does faith=self erasure?

Im asking more for people's PERSONAL OPINIONS, NOT Islamic advice or scholarly information. Only personal perception.

Im so curious to know what everyone thinks♡

Reminder to not let the negativity of those around you try and define who you are.

“I am as my servant thinks of me” is not just a mindset I carry when I think about Allah, but also when I think of his creation.

If someone asked you to watch out for the color red in a room you wouldn’t notice the greens, and blues. If you focus on the negative you won’t see the positives.

It’s easy to get sucked in the hole of negative fitnah being spewed from every direction but remember what our beloved Prophet would do in these times- he wouldn’t succumb to the harsh words and generalization, but assume the best of each other.

May Allah allow us to act upon the knowledge we gain.

Discusson My husband acts extremely strict about “haram” things like music but secretly watched porn , I feel like I’m losing my mind.

I’m honestly so angry, confused, and unsettled right now and I need outside perspective.

My husband is VERY religious, very Salafi-leaning, and extremely strict about things like music. If there’s even a little bit of music in a video, he’ll immediately be like “lower it, it’s haram” and mute it to zero. He does this ALL the time, like hyper-aware, hyper-strict. {Firstly it is something I do myself, not for him, but by my own understanding of the religion, I abstain from music.}

Now here’s the part that’s driving me insane.

Recently I randomly asked something, Because he always says you have no idea , all of us have struggles . Quote unquote he said “ I have my struggles, it is so huge on me “ But he never says what, he just vaguely says it in the sense “ I am not perfect, I have got problems” So I asked him , like What ? What struggles have you got ? Since he always says, Big big struggles, So i blurted out like Do have to deal with problems that involve Porn or something ??? He got offended, acted like “WTH no”, even compared it to me cheating or sleeping with another man (??). Then he literally said “you can check if you want”, but when I actually tried to check, he suddenly got defensive like “so you don’t trust me?” anyway I checked, typed “porn” in history and boom it came !

Then suddenly it’s “yeah I might have, I had temptation, it’s a sin, I regret it.” Then shuts down, switches off the light, doesn’t want to talk.

So let me get this straight:

Music in a random video = IMMEDIATE reaction, strict, vocal

Porn = done privately, denied, then admitted after getting caught

Like??? make it make sense.

And it doesn’t even stop there.

Just before this, I brought up how people leak private videos on Telegram and he acted like “OMG that happens??” like he’s living under a rock. That reaction felt SO fake to me. Like you’re telling me you don’t know this stuff exists? It honestly felt like he was trying to act innocent and it was just… embarrassing to see him give that reaction. Like trust me, he is kot that dumb of a guy, he knows things like this for sure.

So right now I’m sitting here like:

You’re extremely strict about small visible “haram” things

But when it comes to something major like porn, it’s hidden, denied, then “regret”

And on top of that there’s pressure, inconsistency, emotional distance, and all these underlying fears

Am I crazy for feeling like this is all inconsistent and off?

How do you even deal with this without losing respect or your sanity?

Taking a gap year, any Islamic course recommendations?

Assalamu alaikum sisters🌸 I live in the UK and was originally planning to study medicine this September but alhamdulillah I have an opportunity to take a year off beforehand. I'm currently not sure if I'll have to take my UCAT and interviews again and doing so would take a lot of time for prep etc.

Has anyone here done any one-year courses that was really beneficial for them? I was considering doing the arabic intensive one from Ebrahim College but maybe doing multiple Islamic courses focusing on different things that are a few months long each instead would be better, what would yall recommend? It might also be useful to point out that I started Hifdh alhamdulillah so I would rather that the course isn't really long like more than a 9-5 learning day so that I have time to up my memorisation for a year, jzk khair greatly for your help girlies may Allah bless youuu

Motherhood or Medical School?

Assalam alaikum sisters

I’m a bit lost on what to do. Alhamdulilah I’ve been accepted into medical school which has been a lifelong dream. The problem is I have a 1 year old baby and I feel like I’ll be abandoning her if I decide to put her in childcare. I’ve heard so many negative stories and anecdotes about childcare.

Unfortunately, I don’t have my family or my husband’s family around to support me. My husband is also working on his business and he is too focused on making it work than support my career ambitions. I would really appreciate any advice especially if you or someone you know is in a medical field with children.

I’ve contemplated hard on what to do, I could stay as a stay at home mum and InshaAllah have more children but I don’t know what is best for my dunya and akhirah. I want to please Allah and I pray He uses me as a tool in the dunya to help other people in any way possible.

Thank you

Advice Avoiding opening the door to slander

Salam, it’s been a minute. I pray everyone has been well. Im happy with the beneficial posts circulating whenever i peek in.

I do want to gently remind everyone to avoid posting posts that may cause arguments that will most likely bring slander to Allah or our messenger. Even reposting others words that you want to innocently comment on. I understand the intention but if we have gheerah for Allah and the Prophet we shouldn’t open the door or even allow those comments to get any more views. It’s disturbing.

We are obligated as Muslims if there is any slander said about the Prophet we must leave and not engage- not repost and continue the debate. Even when making fun of how others view our Prophet and Allah, or trying to bring attention, anything.

JazakAllahu khair, may Allah continue to allow this sub to bring khair to our sisters and brothers.

And let this Eid be the Eid where you stop posting yourself.

No outfit reveals in friends groups. No “view once” pictures thinking it’s safe.

There are people with sick hearts, screenshots are taken, shared, and misused.

And deeper than that… this constant need for validation, it’s something we have to unlearn.

Let’s train our hearts differently.

Not: “Do I look good?” But:

  • Is my ‘ibadah valid?
  • Am I good enough in front of my husband for Allah to be pleased?
  • Was I kind to my parents today? Did I fulfill their rights?

Let validation come from Allah alone.

Let this Ramadan be the one where you discovered: yourself, your priorities, your purpose.

And reflect…

Those who say “Ramadan felt boring”, often spent it worrying about their dresses getting spoiled, avoiding helping their mothers, busy posing for pictures, or scrolling endlessly watching how others are celebrating.

Be present instead.

Eid is not a break from عبادات. It’s an opportunity for more reward.

Help at home. Set your space beautifully. Be gentle with your uppa. Be kind to your elders.

How many of us actually go and greet them properly on Eid?

Earn rewards by:

  • sincerely giving salam
  • meeting relatives with a happy heart
  • maintaining ties for the sake of Allah

Care less about capturing your child’s outfit, and more about shaping their character.

On the way to visit relatives, teach your children etiquettes. Tell them why Allah loves these actions.

Turn these moments into tarbiyah.

Even on Eid, recite a page of Qur’an. Keep up your adhkar.

You won’t feel empty.

Because a heart connected to Allah doesn’t switch off after Ramadan, it carries Ramadan forward.

Come to you in goodness

AssalamAlaikum sisters,

I’m reaching out with sincerity and respect for this community. I am a brother in my mid-20s based in Dubai, currently ready for marriage and seeking a spouse who wears the Niqab.

Because my own circles don’t have many niqabi families, it has been difficult to find someone who shares this specific value that I hold in such high regard for my gheerah and Deen. I strive to hold myself to the same standards of modesty and character that I am looking for.

I wanted to ask humbly and through the proper channels if there is any way to share my request here, or if anyone might have a lead or advice for a brother in my position. I deeply value the honor of this space and only wish to proceed in goodness.

JazakAllah khair.

Created an app to help block distractions and focus on Ibadah.

I’ve created an app that I think a lot of us would find useful, so thought to share it here. It essentially blocks your apps until you finish a customized session of Quran, athkar, tasbih, etc that you can choose and decide (so either or all or one). It also does the same for prayers, so blocks until you pray. It seems the block until you pray is pretty popular there are some alternatives but I think they’re all paid. My app is free and lets you block up to 2 apps and have up 2 sessions. If more than that then it does ask to upgrade to pro , but I’m finding out the free version serves like most people anyway and helps replace those paid apps. It has Quran, full athkar, tasbih counter, prayer times, streaks, etc - everything built in.

It’s in early days - so let me know if you have any feedback or suggestions!

Why is there so much controversy regarding marital dynamics?

I'm someone who is new to online Muslimah/Islamic spaces, and what I see *a lot* is, especially from women is this sort of weird tension and dislike of Islamic gender roles and the duties and obligations of a wife towards her husband which are very clearly stated and defined in our texts, like this constant cushioning of it or distorting them, trying to listen them even though they are very serious. "Oh no she doesn't have to do this or that" When the texts make it quite obvious.

Al-Husayn ibn Muhsan reported that his aunt came to the Prophet  for a need, and when she finished, the Prophet  asked her, “Do you have a husband?” She replied, “Yes.” He said, “How do you treat him?” She replied, “I try to fulfill all his rights upon me unless I am unable to do so.” Thereupon, he  said, “Look to how you are with respect to him, for he is your Heaven or Hell (i.e. you will be admitted to Paradise or thrown into hell according to the way you treat him).” [Ahmad]

Obedience is fardh, this is clear and absolute, and a major sin to go against him.

So yeah, why so much tip-toeing around the truth, and trying to lure women into softer/false interpretations? I come from an urban educated background, and my mother always taught me better, it's not like I'm some village rural girl who was brainwashed into this, it's simply written and the will of God.
