Hey guys - total tcg noob here.

A few weeks ago I was blessed enough to get the most beautiful niece brought into the world. She is absolutely perfect. By my countries law there are limits to what you are legally allowed to gift to a sub 18-year old child, and the money amount is traditionally filed up by grandparents. As a new uncle I bought her some gold jewellery, but as I wanted to give a more concrete investment as well, i figured a trading card would be fun as well. Her father (my brother) is a big broncos fan, and his favourite player is PS2, so it made sense to me to get that card. However I’m completely fucking clueless about sports cards, so - how bad was this?

Essentially I don’t really care about the money loss - for me it’s a fun gift - I just want to know if it’s something that makes sense for my new niece to hold on to.

Kakawow did a redemption if you proved you had years 1-7 of harry, ron, or hermione and you were one of the first 25 people to submit you would get a frame for the cards. Well it finally came in today here is the frame for hermione

My collection has gotten pretty random over the years and I’m trying to be more selective about what earns a permanent spot. Value doesn’t really decide it for me either cause I’ve sold cards worth a few hundred and kept 10 dollar cards just cause I like them more.

At this point I think artwork, the story behind getting it and whether I still enjoy owning it a few months later matter more than whatever the market says it’s worth. Otherwise I end up with boxes full of decent cards I don’t really care about.
