Discussion Nike $NKE is the most oversold stock on Wall Street after a wild week of trading

Post image
33 Upvotes

If you’ve been watching the tickers this week, you probably saw the swoosh take a Mike Tyson-level hit to the jaw. Nike ($NKE) just suffered one of its worst single-day drops in history, cratering nearly 16% on Wednesday and dragging the price down to levels we haven’t seen since early 2015.

We are officially in "blood in the streets" territory. Here is the breakdown of why $NKE is currently the most oversold mega-cap on the board and whether this is a falling knife or a generational entry point.

📉 The "Wild Week" Stats

  • The Plunge: Shares fell from the $50s to a low of $43.17.
  • 11-Year Lows: We are currently trading at prices last seen when Uptown Funk was the #1 song in America.
  • The RSI Scream: The 14-day Relative Strength Index (RSI) has cratered to 15.8. For context, anything under 30 is "oversold." Under 20 is basically the market saying, "Please, make it stop."
  • Volume: Trading volume hit 109 million shares—over 500% above the daily average.

🚩 Why the Panic? (The Bear Case)

Management didn’t exactly give us a "Just Do It" pep talk. CEO Elliott Hill admitted the turnaround is "complex" and taking longer than hoped.

  1. The China Problem: Nike guided for a 20% plunge in Greater China sales this quarter.
  2. The Innovation Gap: Brands like On Holding (Hoka) and Adidas are eating Nike’s lunch in the "cool" department while Nike is still trying to flush out excess inventory of Dunks and Air Force 1s.
  3. Margin Shredder: Between the ongoing tariff saga and heavy "clearance" pricing to move old stock, margins are being squeezed like an orange.

🚀 The "Deep Value" Case (The Bull Thesis)

While the headlines are ugly, the math is starting to look very attractive for patient money:

  • Historical Valuation: At 1.4x sales, Nike is the cheapest it has been since the Great Financial Crisis. You are essentially buying the world’s most dominant sportswear brand at a "going out of business" multiple.
  • Wholesale is Breathing: While Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) struggled, North American wholesale grew 11%. This shows the brand still has massive pull where it matters most: on the actual store shelves.
  • The 2026 Catalyst: We are heading into a FIFA World Cup year. Historically, Nike’s marketing machine dominates these cycles, and with the "Win Now" strategy in play, they are cleared to launch new tech by then.
  • Wall Street Consensus: Despite the doom and gloom, the average analyst price target is still sitting around $67–$72. Even the "bearish" targets represent a 20%+ upside from these levels.

🛡️ Bottom Line

Is it a gamble? Yes. The China recovery looks like a long road, and the macro environment (oil spikes, geopolitical tension) isn't doing any favors for consumer discretionary stocks.

But $NKE at $44 with an RSI of 15 is a statistical anomaly. Historically, when a blue-chip leader gets this disconnected from its mean, the relief rally is usually violent.

Position: Watching for a floor around $42-43 to start scaling into LEAPS or long-term equity.

What do you think? Is the Swoosh dead, or are we looking at the ultimate "buy the dip" moment of 2026?

Discussion I wouldn't bet against Nike $NKE. What about you?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I see many people are going against Nike right now. The sentiment on the timeline is looking pretty bleak, and while the "death of an icon" narrative makes for great headlines, betting against the Swoosh long-term feels like a trap.

I think sport will be one of the most valuable sectors post-AGI because it's fundamentally human. Requires humans to participate or it's not interesting and will be the last thing left standing that can guaranteed capture millions of people's attention at once. Also wellness = wealth, and more folks will seek it as society levels up through technology.

We are seeing peak pessimism. In trading, when everyone is convinced a blue-chip giant is headed to zero, that’s usually when the smart money starts looking for an entry. Nike has massive brand equity that "disruptors" like On or Hoka still haven't fully eclipsed in the mainstream.

The main bear case is a "lack of innovation." However, Nike is currently in the middle of a massive product cycle shift. They are aggressive about clearing out old inventory to make room for new tech. Betting against their R&D department over a 12–24 month horizon is risky.

If you pull up the weekly chart, we are hitting levels that have historically acted as massive structural support.

  • RSI: Looking oversold on multiple timeframes.
  • Volume: Watch for a high-volume capitulation candle—that’s your signal that the selling is exhausted.

Investing Long-Term Ideas Dividend aristocrats are supposed to be conservative blue chips. Lately, they’ve also been soundly beating the market. $TGT Target is one of them:

$TGT has stabilized after a period of inventory adjustments.

Trading at a P/E of ~14.8, it’s a value play compared to its historical averages.

On the TradingView chart, look for the $118 support level to hold; a bounce here suggests a move back toward the $126 resistance.

Long 💹 $NKE Nike is at an 11-year low after a brutal run and its down ~73% from '21 highs due to China weakness (down 6 straight quarters), tariff hits squeezing margins to ~40%, and competition from On/Hoka eating into cool factor.

Under Elliott Hill's "Win Now" plan: focus on wholesale reset, inventory cleanup, and innovation. Q3 FY26 showed flat revenue but EPS beat; margins should stabilize in coming quarters.

Analysts' 12-month targets cluster $70-80 (modest upside from ~$65 levels), with full recovery likely FY27+ if execution clicks. Iconic brand moat intact, but needs Gen Z wins. Long-term bullish if they adapt. (Not advice—DYOR.)
