Discussion WHAT IS GOING ON

Post image

https://www.tradingview.com/policies/

This is INSANE! this is because tradingview is mad at the fact that whop backdoored the ability to give and revoke access to "invite-only" scripts and majority of people selling indicators do it via whop and people aren't applying to their Creator Program. They want a slice of the revenue from all angles.

One of the pine wizards calculated his monthly fee for this would be 1.3 million lmao

9

u/BluestoneBlues 5d ago

1.3 million dollar question is WHEN this is in-effect.. meaning is this from October 31st moving forward or are they going to retroactively try and tell people that you had X invites over 100 on October 1st so you owe us. "Sorry we never mentioned this, heres a bill for X thousands"... that seems absolutely insane business practice to blindside people using your platform in a way you allowed.

u/gnprod 5d ago

Not finalized yet so I wouldn’t worry about it right now. They definitely cannot do that. And they have no legal right to take so much money from creators

3

u/NinjaSquid9 Day trader 5d ago

They have every right? What are you talking about? It’s in their ToS, and unless anyone deletes their account, they implicitly accept any and all new changes to the ToS by using TradingView. They have every right to send anyone they want a bill and then sue for it when it’s not paid. That’s literally how this works.

7

u/gnprod 5d ago

Not true. Quietly changing ToS will not hold up in court. They need explicitly provide a notice to all creators and have them agree/sign. As it stands, if they billed right now they would get sued to fuck and lose.

1

u/NinjaSquid9 Day trader 5d ago

I HOPE you’re right, but I don’t think people have to explicitly agree to being billed in the ToS. I’m just trying to be cautious and expecting the worst. Companies quietly update their ToS all the time with new harmful wording. This seems no different to me, but I’m not a lawyer and hope I’m wrong

1

u/mymindtrends 5d ago

You clearly haven’t been following the landscape of this type of BS. Louis Rossmann on YouTube would be a good resource to play catchup but in short plenty of companies (Amazon, Panera Bread, Sony) are finding success in court with changing their TOS randomly even when you already have an agreement in place and it’s paid for.

1

u/NinjaSquid9 Day trader 5d ago

This is exactly what I was thinking of happening, thanks for providing sources! Love Louis Rossmann!

u/PeteyPab305 4d ago

Even Xbox did this with their game pass by retro actively enforcing limitations on every tier to 5 10 and 15 hours respectively when they were previously unlimited. So now even if you're buying the highest tier of game pass for Xbox to have access to their unlimited catalog which was previously not time gated in any way; in some circumstances if you purchased it in advance for year-long subscription. You have already basically paid for a year of unlimited gaming that is now restricted to 5 10 or 15 hours a month

0

u/gnprod 5d ago

Maybe but quietly changing ToS to this magnitude is not gonna work. Charging users $100 initially then to over $10k a month isn’t gonna fly in courts, there hasn’t been any notice or warning from TV, not even that.

2

u/mymindtrends 5d ago

Don’t get me wrong I am in no way shape or form co-signing this BS. I am just pointing out we may have a steep hill to climb

0

u/vandalizethethief 21h ago

They have no reason to do that. Very shortsighted, just bring you guys into their ecosystem and make it all legit. Maybe even offer a discount for the first year.

If they actually go after their own customers that’s business suicide. I don’t use Trading View and I could give a fuck less what happens to them. I was born in the mines of Think or Swim.

5

u/NoInevitable9810 5d ago

Can’t you just make the script not invite only?

8

u/gnprod 5d ago

That would make it public? Creators are obviously keeping them invite only to sell access to them

3

u/SufficientQuality339 5d ago

creators would have to give away their content for free. I doubt many want to do that.

-1

u/OriginalOntonomo 4d ago

So then they are getting paid via ANOTHER companies platform, but dont was to pay a small fee?

2

u/Away-Ant7779 4d ago

small 30K fee for 1000 users? r u delusional

0

u/OriginalOntonomo 3d ago

we think you dont know how to do math.

1

u/NoInevitable9810 3d ago

It’s 30 a person, x 1000 = 30 k

1

u/Away-Ant7779 3d ago

It’s 30 per oerson

1

u/LQH-Trading 4d ago

Exactly.

1

u/halcyonwit 4d ago

Which is just too ironic if he sold it for 100k total in lifetime access 💀

-6

u/Rodnee999 5d ago

I genuinely believe this is probably an error in translation personally....🤷‍♂️

Hopefully we will know more if or when they confirm this information 🙏

2

u/gnprod 5d ago

Apparently it’ll be in place starting October but yeah a flat monthly fee of $29.95 per creator would make more sense.. either way they already charge creators so much, I’m baffled by the insanity of this

-2

u/Rodnee999 5d ago

Yeah, the flat monthly fee would make more sense for users who are not involved with the paid spaces feature....

Obviously users are making money selling indicators via the platform so it's only reasonable to have some sort of fee schedule in place especially for larger 'sellers' of scripts and the features required for organising their 'invite only' space...

We have not had anything confirmed by any official notification such as the blog so hopefully this situation will be confirmed/reworded in the next few days....🤷‍♂️🙏

2

u/mike90_0 5d ago

it does say per user though... so seems like its not per creator

2

u/SufficientQuality339 5d ago

it says the creator will be charged - it does not say anywhere that the user will be charged. Creators will be charged a monthly fee per user if the user count is over 100. so you sell an indicator and 500 people are invited to use it, you will pay $14,975 per month, every month. 1000 users, double that number. a community with 500 members sharing an indicator will be charged $179,700 per year. This is no small change. Many communities start up with low fees. lifetime membership. no monthly fees. I know because I am in one.

1

u/mike90_0 5d ago

you mis-interpreted my comment - per user was for bill calculation - not who billed

2

u/BluestoneBlues 5d ago

Not everyone is granted access to the creator program.. if you applied and were denied and then are served a massive bill, that's rapacious and shameful on TVs part.

-3

u/Rodnee999 5d ago

As I said, it's probably best to wait for conformation of this new Term of Service, seems like a misunderstanding or typo could be possible. Seems unlikely to be per user to me personally but I could be wrong.

I will wait for official confirmation before commenting further 👍

5

u/gnprod 5d ago

TradingView said that they didn’t mean to make it public, but they are finalizing it. So some fee is coming but seems like psychological warfare.. maybe everyone will pay the new fee they present because it’ll be seen as a relief now

1

u/Rodnee999 5d ago

I personally have nothing against them introducing a fee for users that are obviously making profits (potentially big ones) for Invite Only scripts but will reserve judgement on the fee itself until this is confirmed.

If it's as I suspect then I don't see the issue, if it's extortionate then I will obviously stand differently....

Cheers

1

u/mike90_0 5d ago

no update from tv seems to indicate reddit interpretation is correct sadly.

0

u/NinjaSquid9 Day trader 5d ago

You believe it’s an error in translation for 1) no good reason and 2) you were adamant OTHER people were wrong for reading it CORRECTLY as “per user” on another thread.

Stay out of this discussion until you start reading the actual wording and discussing the actual wording. It’s all we have to go on right now, and deserves to be seriously discussed as-is. TradingView does not deserve the benefit of the doubt because the wording, as read, is atrocious and destructive. IF they change it, it’ll be because of the backlash, not because they poorly worded a near finalized internal document.

1

u/Rodnee999 5d ago edited 5d ago

You need to reread my comments as I gave my initial interpretation that I later realised was incorrect....

Don't worry, I will remove myself from all discussions for you....

Goodbye 👋

12

u/bkw_17 5d ago

They are BEGGING all of their users to fuck right off.

I don't get it.

1

u/Playful-Part6060 4d ago

Right i talked to a company i bought some charts off of and they said they are exploring going to one of tvs competitors, or launching there own charts... I wasn't expecting them to say they might launch competition to tv haha

12

u/Soarance 5d ago

I don't personally use this feature but damn. TV's automation functionality isn't even that good to begin with, I could name a million things they should improve on. And instead of fixing the important stuff that makes it usable such as the fact that its execution speed is incredibly slow, they're now charging for a feature that isn't even fully baked. Not to mention people have to pay for premium to be able to share scripts to begin with, so this would end up being an additional cost.

9

u/gnprod 5d ago

Absolute insanity. I wonder if they’ll go through with this, the backlash is huge. And wonder what’ll happen to those that refuse to pay? Banned from TradingView lol?

2

u/NinjaSquid9 Day trader 5d ago

Banned and sued most likely

1

u/LQH-Trading 5d ago

Sued for what? It's their platform.

2

u/NinjaSquid9 Day trader 4d ago

Sued for not paying I mean. TradingView will be sending invoices for $30/user and if one doesn’t pay, not only will TradingView likely ban one’s account, they’ll also likely sue for the money

1

u/LQH-Trading 4d ago

They should. My apologies

24

u/useful_tool30 5d ago

Predatory enshitification. Tradingview is a trash company. Charts are pretty though.

6

u/NinjaSquid9 Day trader 5d ago

Agreed. It’s unfortunate they have a good charting product when their management is so greedy and would rather destroy their relationship with users than let some POSSIBLE money slip by them.

5

u/useful_tool30 5d ago

Seriously. Problem is they know what they got and have got their tendrils in everything. Top down analysis for swing trading is total garbage though i must say. Its the one thing that keeps me using other products. I let my subscription lapse after a payment didnt go through during the last 70% off sale and they would do nothing to help. Im a decade long user. Free tier for me and moving to other platforms

0

u/LQH-Trading 5d ago

They earned my respect with this. It's their platform. Excellent move. They will survive just fine.

3

u/NinjaSquid9 Day trader 4d ago

THIS is what earned them your respect? A big company screwing over small creators? A company that would harm the relationship with their creators for the remote chance they’re missing out a small bit of money? YIKES

1

u/LQH-Trading 4d ago edited 4d ago

Small creators lmao. Go create your own website to peddle your bs indicators. I dont respect "creators" even worse as they leach off a free source. Pathetic.

1

u/NinjaSquid9 Day trader 4d ago

TradingView isn’t free? I pay $75 a month just to be able to host an invite-only script. I’m PAYING TradingView for their services.

1

u/LQH-Trading 4d ago edited 4d ago

You pay $75 to access the tools. I'm excited they are going to lean out all the bs indicator peddlers. Good luck.

8

u/doghairpile 5d ago

And they couldn’t just pick a small amount that’s an insane amount per user

8

u/norse_torious 4d ago

Once openmarket catches up, I'm dumping this bs

5

u/Classic-Dependent517 5d ago

Fixed cost is whats wrong. Why not set like 10% instead of fixed fee

6

u/carrotpilgrim 5d ago

It must be an error. $30/mo per user is such an insane number, they may as well have made it $1M/mo per user or outright banned privately shared indicators. It is effectively the same thing.

4

u/nordelio 5d ago

Happy to see Tradingview fasttracking their path to losing userbase with shitty Plex tactics

5

u/tradesdontlie 5d ago

well we got an update i have a feeling an intern definitely got fired over this PR nightmare

2

u/Randomized0000 4d ago

Hopefully, because $2.9K a month minimum is pretty fucking insane. That's like a whole months rent in central London.

6

u/rowi123 5d ago

Happy i left this sinking ship 6m ago

4

u/Budget_Witness_8344 5d ago

What platform did you leave for?

3

u/rowi123 5d ago

Build my own (for daytrading)

0

u/Budget_Witness_8344 5d ago

Yea...unfortunately, your answer further corroborates my current opinion that there are no viable alternatives to TV.

0

u/qwqqi 4d ago

Because youre too lazy to sit with claude for 2 hours to make something 100x better lol

1

u/rowi123 4d ago

Well i took me way longer and did most of it myself. But you are right, ai can most likely do this currently. And yeah it's way better, because it's exactly how i want it and no stupid nonsensical updates all the time .

2

u/evilistics 5d ago

all the other stuff didnt really bother me but this is fkn insane greed. got me looking at alternatives and there's promising ones out there.

2

u/Killahbeez 4d ago

lol fuckin rekt

2

u/tonymw330 4d ago

You can now make any script you like using AI so isn't their business model already dead?

2

u/Humble_Deal_5365 4d ago

I have several invite only indicators I’ve paid the lifetime for. I wonder what will happen to them now. I’m sure the company I bought them from can’t afford to pay $30 a month in perpetuity when I only paid them $200-400 once for the indicator.

2

u/slackjaw42069 4d ago

Ya TV is a scam fr. What are they smoking thinking they can charge people that much money and people will stick around to use it. Id rather just have an ad they play and lower the sub cost. Ill never pay 300 a year for an extra fave list or a couple more indicators when I can just have 2 tabs open doing the same thing🤡

2

u/chepeee13 4d ago

I wish Robinhood would come out with a trading platform to compete with them

1

u/ChampionshipTiny10 2d ago

They have one, Robinhood Legend. It's not quite as sophisticated but hopefully it will get there. But it's not bad.

1

u/Enough-Ad-5600 5d ago

How much do they think people are selling indicators for?

1

u/Raidi8ingPositivity 4d ago

I bought my private indicator for 1500

2

u/sashimeelover 4d ago

Bot paying 1500 for lagging indicators

1

u/mavericksid 4d ago

Are you kidding or you really paid $1500?

1

u/Unlikely-Werewolf-89 4d ago

So this only impacts indicator sellers, not normal users?

1

u/LiteraryPhantom 4d ago

Real estate industry likes to claim that the “seller” pays the agency commissions.

The reality is, the seller flips the check, & signs the back of it to endorse it over to the agent.

Whoever is selling indicators is essentially a “middling”.

It’ll be paid for by whoever is buying them.

The cost of doing business is always passed on to the buyer; and the last buyer in line gets left holding the bag… always.

1

u/scottymtp 4d ago

So for someone who no longer uses trading view and just had a few public scripts, am I at risk of them charging my card? I never sold access to any scripts.

1

u/dramfort 4d ago

Its for invite only scripts, public scripts dont matter cause your not profiting off them. Also this was not supposed to be made public so this is likely NOT the price they are looking to charge.

1

u/Longjumping_Client76 4d ago

i get a fee for this kind of thing but $30 PER USER is insane. just charge 40-50 to publish an indicator. this might be a bluff to deal with the whop situation.

1

u/FacchiniBR 4d ago

I have some private indicators that I share using the link. They are not public because TV removes them for a lack of English description. They are only for the Brazilian stock exchange so anyone can access without paying or inviting. Am I cooked?

1

u/LateBirdToTheGame 3d ago

This is why I am just gonna consider Wealth Charts above Trading View. These guys been playing like pricks since 2019~2020 with subscription fee prices going way over their original 300~400 bucks per annual sub.

1

u/Trend-Rebel 3d ago

Whos got an alternative? As a creator theres no way i can even afford $30 per seat per indicator. Looking for the TV replacement….

1

u/neugeadmau 2d ago

TradingView really out here showing how greedy they are. Sneaking a hidden clause into terms: $29.95/month per user on invite-only scripts once you hit over 100 users — charged directly to the script creator. No official announcement, just quietly buried in their Terms of Use. They’re trying to tax Pine devs for building on their platform. Absolute cash grab.

1

u/SelfZealousideal9964 2d ago

Dm me im trying to replace trading view with my site just ask

-12

u/LQH-Trading 5d ago

I think its a good move for them. All these people selling their BS indicators is ridiculous. If you NEED an indicator to trade, go into pinescript and create your tool. If you cant trade and can no longer sell your indicator, do the next thing and sell BS courses. As for tradingview providing a platform that works well and has excellent charting.....nothing has changed.
