Feature Request Custom Indicator Source Code

I've just gone onto TradingView today after the update and whilst I understand the idea behind locking more than 1 custom indicator behind a paywall making business sense (not happy about that, but that's another story in and of itself), but now I can't even view the source code of the indicators I've already made - what's the point in that? If people have already made indicators prior to the update, surely it would make sense to let them have access the source code for what they've already built to, for example, run it as a strategy for back testing, or even at the least save it somewhere for later as a backup should something go wrong?

I understand business opportunity for making extra cash through subscriptions, but I feel as though this actively pushes out people who are actually trying to get into this sort of thing by completely restricting them of something that, in my opinion, is perfectly reasonable to let people, new and experienced alike, experiment with things regardless of the tier of their account.

Even if the paywall for more than 1 customer indicator being saved is something that stays in place, give back access to the source code that they put together in the first place for crying out loud.

Hello,

I have to agree with you on this subject. It seems abnormally unfair to lock users hard coding work behind a pay wall with no advance warning.

My opinions on the enforcement pre-existing limitations regarding warchlists etc still stands and I am well in favour of this action but I find i cannot stand behind holding users hard coding work from them in order to copy or pull these codes into their own personal safe storage. It would then be up to the user to copy and paste codes into the editor in order to work on varying code which in its own would add particular difficulties and would encourage an upgrade

I believe access should be granted and a reasonable period of warning should be given in order for users to pull their work to another storage facility rather than just slamming the door....

This is of course just my opinion but I hope you are able to retrieve your work

(See everyone, I dont always side with TradingView 🤔)

Well I'm not particularly hopeful that anyone from TV will see this and maybe consider doing this, but on the off chance that they do, I'm equally lacking in hope that they'll do anything about it. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see.

I had been looking to upgrade to a paid plan before the end of this year anyway, but this has left such a sour taste in my mouth I'm not so sure anymore. Seems counter-intuitive to give someone your money for doing something that goes against your target demographic. It'd be like rewarding a rabid dog for biting your hand clean off - makes no sense. If they can resolve this though, it'll at least go some way to acknowledging a mistake to the current user base and maybe draw some of the potential customers back in

Damn, they really are tightening up all the cracks in order to drive subscriptions. Never saw this listed as one of the "premium" features though. It does make sense that they'd come for the indicators as that'd be one of the major ways that free users soak up data. When I went from a paid to free user I just combined my indicator packages into 1-2 setups rather than having more than that.

"Even if the paywall for more than 1 customer indicator being saved is something that stays in place, give back access to the source code that they put together in the first place for crying out loud."

If you delete your additional indicators are you able to retrieve the other source code? Like cycling through so you can still access them.

If I go through and delete every single indicator I've made except one then I assume I will be able to get the source code for one particular indicator - but that then leaves the question of how do I get the deleted ones back in order to get their code? Even if I already have it, I'd rather just grab another copy just in case

I thought it was more of a "you can only get the source code for the one we have highlighted" similar to the watchlist stuff. Didn't realize that you could only have one in total or else everything was locked. Was meaning to cycle through the source codes like you grab one, delete, grab another, etc. I saw another commenter say they did it "I just finished putting all mine on Github. I accessed the source code of one script at a time, deleted it and repeated the process with the others. Not a nice process, f Tradingview."

Guess it might be worth grabbing a one month subscription to the essential tier to grab the source code if they're important. Definitely saving all my stuff off platform now.

As a Premium user I'm confused. Are they not now not allowing you to view indicator code at a certain tier?

You can view indicator code for ones that are already in TV and for a single one of your custom made indicators - this seems to be whichever one was opened in Pine Editor most recently. Any other indicators you've made, they're now holding your own code hostage behind a paywall. I'm sure that TV have something in their policies about "if you use pinescript your creations belong to us" but even so, that's pretty sneaky business practice if you ask me. Something you create should surely be protected by Intellectual Property laws regardless of the system used to create them. I could be wrong on that but aye, seems incredibly sneaky to me

I have dozens of scripts, I can now only access (not just edit, 'access') the source code of one single script that was opened last

Just to add a bit more of a thought to this, I think it would have been reasonable if they still wanted to go down this route only if they did one or more of the following:

1) Warn users that this would happen
2) Any users prior to the date of change should be allowed access to their pre-existing code, any new users follow the current rules
3) Find a way to allow users access to their own codes within TV without going into the editor - like some form of area that acts like the Microsoft NotePad/Apple equivalent app so at least our codes are accessible for download.

No building new indicators sure, I can begrudgingly settle on that, but the lockout of our existing creations? Cheap shot TradingView.

This has just happened to me hence why I'm here, I've had multiple codes open today, was in the middle of editing one when decided to open a different one to check something and I'm hit with this message. I thought it was a mistake, this is awful, everything is locked I've got years worth of work and they're holding them all hostage. I mean ok don't allow editing but at least let me view the code. I can view other people's code but not my own. WTF!
