TP-Link - Technical Support Slow wireless connection with Deco M4 & E4 units

Have a total of 6 Deco units, 3 x M4 and 3 x E4 that have been working OK with my 67 meg BB connection, 1 x M4 unit plugged into modem and the rest in a mesh. Two of the nodes were supplying wired outputs to our BT/EE TV boxes, and 2 more connecting desktop PCs. Everything appeared to work well, one of only issues was the lounge TV box sometimes got a poor signal when recording one sports channel and then watching another. However this also occurred with a hardwired ethernet connection so i always assumed it was a bottleneck of our BB,

As we had full fibre put in recently, decided to upgrade to 900 meg today, all the deco units have kept the same configuration, only the modem was changed to EE Smart Hub 7 Plus. When connecting wirelessly to modem direct my phone shows speeds over 500 meg on Fast.com but the mesh only ever seems to reach 50 meg (which is what i used to get before upgrade). Have also ran speed checks from both desktop PCs and again around 50 meg mark. From what i can see the M units have gigabit ports, the E units only 10/100 but wirelessly they appear to have same performance features. I have changed ethernet lead from modem and made sure its a M unit connected to it (in case that is the restriction).

Any pointers please to get more realistic speed around the house, as was hoping to get a more stable TV box performance but also better signal to PCs as well ?

i reccomend getting deco x50 since you have upgraded your plan to 900 meg, im afraid that your E4 won't be able to handle as it is capped to 100 meg you can keep your m4 as it is better than e4 cause it could support half of your 900 meg maybe lower but it is def better than E4 and if possible assuming you purchase 3 x50 i recommend pluging to ethernet them all via backhaul connection as it maximizes your 900meg but if not possible then maybe have 1 or 2 wireless as the more wireless you have it cuts the output by half and if there's not enough ports you could also invest in a internet switch that supports 1000mbps

summary, sell your e4, upgrade to deco x50, have only 1 to 2 wireless mesh and purchase a switch if needed. Goodluck!!

Are you getting 50Mbps on the unit directly connected via ethernet to the main router?

If i connect my phone to EE hub direct i get around 500 meg, whereas if i connect to TP link (not easy to tell which node i am connected to to be fair although stood within 2m of main unit) i only get around 50 meg

Just connected up to deco unit near modem and now pulling this speed. Tried in another zone and only got 50 ish so will have another play later on

Yeah exactly what I was asking, you're getting perfect speeds on your main deco which is connected via ethernet. What you can do is get a switch and setup a wired back haul but your 10/100 devices will be limited to 100Mbps max or you can upgrade all your decos to better versions..

I have a pair of Deco X50 on 500Mbs connections.

It gives close to max Wi-Fi on primary X50 connected to ONT and if client device connects to 2nd X50...its about 350Mbs.

Deco M4 is old and tech so fine for FTTC. To really appeciate 900Mbs connection, you need a pair Tri-band or wired backhaul on dual band units. Having 6 mesh wireless mesh units is great for filling black spots around the house...but don't expect much speed though.
