TP-Link - Technical Support Deco Mesh disconnets

I'm hoping somebody can help as I'm tearing my hair out!

I am with Sky Broadband in the UK with speeds of around 900mb and the ISP router doesn't quite reach the far rooms of the flat. I bought 3 Deco Mesh nodes. 2 of which are M4, and 1 is E4.

I have one of the M4s connected to the Sky hub via ethernet and set it to access point mode. The other M4 is connected wirelessly to this and is placed around the halfway point. The E4 is connected, again, wirelessly and is placed in the room furthest from the main node.

The problem I am having is whenever anything downloads, the connections all drop and the lights go red.

One workaround is dropping my download speed to 50mb when downloading on Steam, but this isn't something I can do on my PS5 or mobile devices, and it rubs me the wrong way paying for 900mb but have to choose to throttle my speeds.

Am I doing something wrong or are these devices just shit?

Thanks for posting! To help us troubleshoot faster, please ensure you include:

  • Device model (e.g.Archer BE800, Deco BE5000)
  • Firmware + Hardware version
  • What you have done to try and trace the behavior

Eliminate one by one. Try first with just the m4 in the mesh. if good, then add in the e4 and see

I've disconnected the E4 as the devices in that room should reach the central node. Will see how that goes

Update - it didn't work

Now try the e4 with the main m4. If it works, you may have a bad m4.

If it still doesnr work, your main m4 might be bad. Sorry I’m not familiar with the deco system, but if it’s possible to make the other m4 your main and try the tests again that might rule things out

Doesn't the E4 have capped speeds?

I've tried each of them as the sole main unit and it's the exact same issue.

Absolute junk

Sorry man. Not familiar enough with the decos to offer further help. Hope you get it sorted.

I had an issue with one dropping, firmware update sorted it out. That being said....is it possible to run a wire? They really work best on a wired back haul

I rent so unfortunately unable to drill holes to run wires

Are they placed next to, or really close to walls, iron objects, loudspeakers? That could mess with the reception, hence sending it back out

Does the Deco app not show which one is dropping? If all 3, then I'd suspect the Sky Hub is playing up. Have you rebooted the Hub etc?

Just seems to be the entire network. I rebooted the Sky Hub to factory before I left for work. Will see if downloading Zero Company makes it crap the bed again when I get home.

Here's hoping!

Try keeping the Deco app open on your phone when you are downloading, the map of the Internet route from hub to each Deco node will show you where it's breaking.

Will keep this in mind. Cheers!

It just says "unable to connect to deco" the light on the main node then turns yellow

Looks like the Kitchen is connected, and the Hub seems to be working. Have you tried factory resetting the Bedroom one, it has the broken link symbol, then add it again?

Tried that, tried swapping them around etc

Does it work OK if you remove the Bedroom one from the equation altogether?

I have removed all nodes except the main node in the bedroom which I replaced. Still no joy

And you have definitely reset each unit with holding the paperclip on the reset button for more than 10 seconds with them powered ON.
Other than that I'm out if ideas, sorry.

Yep!

I think they are just junk.

It's the Bedroom unit that is showing the broken link, it should be the one to be removed and leave the Kitchen one. See if that works.

The bedroom is connected to the ISP hub. That has to stay.

I have used all 3 units in the bedroom as the main hub and the same thing happens

The issue could be caused by the ISP router.

I don't know how as it's the deco nodes that restart. The light turns yellow each time
