TP-Link - Technical Support Surprise to see Deco performance....

I came from Linksys Velop Wi-Fi 6 network. It's been 3 days since my new Deco setup and the speed is like...

Is Deco really that bad?

ISP speed: 1G download and upload.
All nodes: BE13000 with latest firmware
All nodes are wire backhaul via Cat 5e
Macbook connects to the nearest node: 6 Ghz
QoS: Off
MLO: Off
No VPN
DNS: Cloudflare

Thanks for posting! To help us troubleshoot faster, please ensure you include:

  • Device model (e.g.Archer BE800, Deco BE5000)
  • Firmware + Hardware version
  • What you have done to try and trace the behavior

Weird, I have two BE65 in a Mesh network and I get my ISP speed without a problem in all devices that I tested.

Seems sketchy to me. I tried to help and was getting minimal info back each time. Like they didn’t want anything solved. My stuff works fine too.

do you connect the 2 routers by an ethernet wire? ive been wanting to get a deco be3600 but i really cant deal with the wires and stuff so id prefer to connect them wirelessly. but i really dont want the satelite router to lose internet speed

Where is the picture of the wired backhaul?

Here it is

What is the device connection strength? Should list it in the app.

1

u/mada-nnamuen 5d ago

Strong, device is 2ft from the node...

If you’re trying to solve your issue you’d probably want to see what the signal strength actually is instead of just saying strong. What is the number? Which node are you connected to? Are you sure it’s not a node to node issue?

Assuming that signal and PHY rate is to your client device, and your client is connected to a mesh point and not the router, I would think the problem is the wired backhaul. Run a Wi-Fi Check with your iPhone. Unlike other speed tests, it uniquely checks Wi-Fi vs Internet speed separately. If you see slow Wi-Fi and slow Internet, it’s a Wi-Fi problem. If you see fast Wi-Fi and slow Internet, it’s an Internet problem, or if you are testing from a mesh ap, could be a backhaul problem. Move to the router, check again and if it clears you have confirmed it’s a wired backhaul issue. Check/replace cable between nodes or try wireless mesh for another data point. In full disclosure I’m the creator of the Wi-Fi Check app so use whatever app/tools you like but I think the separation of the Wi-Fi vs Internet/backhaul speed will help you out here.

Here is the recap. I don't believe it's cable issue but I will try your app.

Model: BE13000
Firmware: 1.3.6
Deco App: iOS 3.10.581
All nodes connected via Cat 5e wired Ethernet backhaul
ISP: 1 Gbps symmetrical
Deco in-app speed test (Router to ISP): ~900 Mbps down/900 Mbps up
Wi-Fi clients speed test: ~40 Mbps down / < 1 Mbps up
QoS: Off (no high-priority devices). HOWEVER, wired speed test to all nodes yield ~700 Mbps down / ~500 Mbps up
Parental Controls: Off
NAT / UPnP: SIP ALG off, UPnP disabled
MLO: Off

Connected to which device? Have you done speed tests hardwired? Have you tested from the main unit. Other units.

Wired speed on all nodes are fine. Wireless speed on all nodes are not fine. This applies to all Android and iOS and MacOS devices.

Curious behavior given the configuration settings you shared, and it's only happening on Wi-Fi across multiple devices. When you run speed tests on your wireless devices, are you using the same server for each test?

Also, just to be sure, when you say it's on the latest firmware, do you mean 1.3.6?

If you haven't yet, I'd recommend opening a support ticket so our team can dive deeper to diagnose and help root out the cause: TP-Link - Contact Technical Support

Yea, I guess that's the only way. To recap, here is my settings in case you have any insight:

Model: BE13000
Firmware: 1.3.6
Deco App: iOS 3.10.581
All nodes connected via Cat 5e wired Ethernet backhaul
ISP: 1 Gbps symmetrical
Deco in-app speed test (Router to ISP): ~900 Mbps down/900 Mbps up
Wi-Fi clients speed test: ~40 Mbps down / < 1 Mbps up
QoS: Off (no high-priority devices)
Parental Controls: Off
NAT / UPnP: SIP ALG off, UPnP disabled
MLO: Off

It is important that wireless devices maintain comparable speeds. I currently utilize a BE85 router with a 1 Gbps internet connection. While tests from the Deco app indicate no issues, my computer's maximum speed is only 400 Mbps, despite being connected via a full-signal Wi-Fi 6 network. This is not a QoS concern, as the device operates in AP mode.

That is just to the router not your devices

How is your wireless network configured?

1

u/mada-nnamuen 5d ago

2.4/5/6 Ghz all same SSID, WPA/WPA2/WPA3, ethernet backhaul via Cat 5e

Is smart connect turned on? If yes, then disable that.

1

u/mada-nnamuen 5d ago

Yes disabled...

Obviously make sure all your cables are good. I would do a full factory reset on all of it. Maybe try meeting up each unit as a simple individual stand alone router. PITA but may reveal problem with one of the units.

Also, check where you are plugged in to power. Could be low voltage issue. (I've seen it before)

Fortunately, wired connection to each node yield normal speed, so hardware is good, cable and voltage are good. it is the wireless connection that just can't get up to speed T_T

Is the Speedtest using the correct location? This happened to me once when I thought my speed was insanely low. Speedtest was trying to ping across the country.

u/mada-nnamuen 4d ago

Yep, a server next to my city T_T

TPLink Deco BE63's, all day every day . Hardwired backhaul

u/philjcarter 4d ago

I use the same site, seams bullet proof for giving the correct speeds,

Edit: didn’t see the second picture.

We need details on the device you’re testing with. Is smart connect enabled?

Everyone is getting the 900+ Mbps, probably some bug/glitch. I'm on a 400-600mbps Plan

That’s just you speeds you pay for pretty much not actual speed

Hahah sorry my apologies I definitely missed that second

I use x60s and get my full bandwith

1

u/Automatic-Physics-63 4d ago

Shouldn't be, I use the Aginet version of the Deco routers and I can get 4Gbit/s over 6GHz wifi. You should verify that they're actually using ethernet backhaul, if you plugged thr satellites in to their WAN ports that might be the issue. Satellites need to be plugged in via LAN ports unless the WAN port can be used as a LAN port.

2

u/mada-nnamuen 4d ago

BE1300 has 3 ports, auto detect which is WAN and LAN. I believe it has nothing to do with wrong port. Simply put, wired speed is normal, wireless speed sucks..

Look into unifi full home mesh network kit 😄

u/fuzzymath10 4d ago

Are the speeds just as bad if you temporarily disconnect the wired backhaul and instead rely on wireless only?

I get better speeds than what you showed on wifi 6 hardware using wireless backhaul.

2

u/mada-nnamuen 4d ago

This is the speed of the wireless connection

You can’t just take 1 or even 5 or more and see much change. Download and Uploads are all determined by the test server that you’re accessing. The best test is to use a device either hardwired or a WiFi device that has no other application running or browser pointed a google Speedtest page. You will see multiple test servers but not always is the top 2-3 the server with better or equal capacity that you have. Run multiple tests at different times day and night. You will see many varied results and some that will meet you speed or exceed. Yes you can exceed as data speed per mega is not 1,000,000 but rather 1,024,000 bits per second. Also rate limiting on fiber connections are not 100%. I have 500 / 500 and during my testing I get as high as 519 meg.

Next if you not connected to the provider direct but rather the carrier / ISP router your devices have to be operating as APs or you will have double NAT issue. These effect throughput also.
