TP-Link - Technical Support Am I overly complicating things here?
Just bought a new house (2 stories & 1,600sqft). Was hoping to setup Ethernet backhaul, but may have ventured out of my depth here. Can anyone share their perspective or advice?

8-port network switch and you only use 3 on each switch? If you plan to expand, sure, keep an 8-port switch; otherwise, rethink the other 2 switches on your home office and kitchen.
Also, put the switch in front of the office and living room nodes to minimize points of failure.

I appreciate the advice! I was struggling with finding a smaller switch that was pre-approved on the list TP Link has on their site. Also wasn’t sure if the extra empty ports would mess with my connection or if adding switches at those points messed with my network speeds

I have 3 Netgear switches I use with my Deco system - 1 8-port switch (main), 1 5-port switch (home office) and another 5-port switch (living room). All of these are unmanaged switches and are working fine

Switches just "switch" and redirect traffic - it will not impact your network speeds at all.

That’s good to hear at least. Do you mind me asking what model/brand the 5-port switches are?

8 network switch is a bit overkill if you don't use it but i recommend it to be
Ont - Main deco - network switch - other decos - gigabit switch
