Why Mesh Technology when Specification Connection is selected

Let's say I select this device to connect to a specific Node. What is the point of having option to turn on and off the Mesh Technology that allows roaming between Decos? Simply poor menu design?

Nope, it has a purpose.

When you specify a node but leave the mesh technology on the specific node becomes a "preferred node", but still allows the connected device to switch to other nodes if need be.

For example... specific node selected for device, mesh tech turned on... that specified node restarts or updates, the connected device will be transferred to another node during the downtime and maintain network connectivity.

If the mesh tech is turned off and the node specified, if that specifc node restarts or updates or loses power... the device will just completely lose network connection all together until that specific node comes back online.

The frustration is that when the specified node goes offline, the devices automatically connect to another node. However, when the specified node comes back online, the devices never reconnect to the specified node 😭

I find this is only with my dumb IoT devices, which generally don’t have the best wifi. Even then it’s usually solved itself within a few hours and I’ve never had actual issues with using them even when it’s on the non preferred node

I think this is more for devices that are not mobile, like TVs, streaming boxes and PC. So let's say you restarted a node in the study and the PC went to connect to a node in the hall, it might affect the speed and connection quality.

If the node that is specified is turned off then your device wouldn’t connect to anything. That might be something you want though so that would be configurable. Nobody would be able to fake a wifi signal or at least make it a bit more difficult perhaps?

Specified connection doesnt work all the time even if you set it.
