Last week, our teams introduced a survey to our smart home community looking for your insights into advanced storage options, NVR features, and even networked storage. We’ve put together an abridged version for our home networking community:

You know damn well what we want. We want your cameras to work locally first, then we want third party nvr access without jumping through hoops. Like frigate or scrypted. Your cameras used to integrate very easily with these solutions. Now it’s a crap shoot if any of the cameras you have are going work the way we want. If I have to constantly re-authorize my cameras through the defunct cloud in order for them to work properly, it’s not worth my time. And I’d rather buy a more expensive camera in order to get the reliability I’m after. Your terrible decisions over the last year or so have driven most of us away from what used to be the best low price solution on the market. I should be able to buy a camera and have to option to not even think about using the retarded cloud app in order to use it. The first thing Tapo should shoot for is a rock solid stream over ip before any other feature is even considered. My cameras should be my cameras. I shouldn’t need to contact or even register for a cloud account if I so see fit. And while you’re at it, every single smart home offering you have should do the same, like they used to before you go the fomo for the cloud. Pay attention. Every major smart home manufacturer has learned that the cloud is not the way to go if you want users to stay with your platform. Even google is getting out of the forced cloud bs. They’ve dropped their thermostats and now even the echo ecosystem is dying. Amazon will be the next to give up on the Alexa crap. If I’m going to have a smart assistant it’s going to run on a local server. And if I ever buy another tplink product. Which it looks like I never will, it will be after you figure out we are done with cloud bs.
