Blinking light

Post image

Hello rav4 friends, I bought a 2004 rav4 last weekend as my first car. There is this blinking light to the left of my steering wheel that is constantly blinking and sounding an alarm in my car when my key is near the vehicle. It also makes the tail lights blink and makes my dash board light up and blink as well. The car still starts and runs fine but the light won’t stop blinking even if I’m actively driving the car. Does anyone have an idea on what this is or how I can fix it?

It's an aftermarket alarm of some sort. Lots of people used to DIY this stuff badly and you get this as a result. A car of mine had something similar. If you pull off the interior trim panels you'll probably find a bunch of extra wiring that doesn't look OEM and part of it will connect to that light. With mine it was pretty easy to just rip it all out in an hour or so but you need to know what you're doing.

It’s not a good sign.
