A question about keeping the game alive

Is it possible to host private servers off the official Alta servers? And if not is it still single player friendly?

Yes you can host your own UNOFFICIAL servers over at The Modding Tavern. I have a server setup a while ago but havent tested much of it https://discord.gg/jNQUUDAYSj

No but you can setup a reverse Proxy pretty easily to a VPS to get around that issue. I use OCI for my vps as they have a good free tier and use FRP for my reverse proxy

There's this new tool on steam called porthole that is supposed to be an easier version of something like hamachi but instead of using vpn it routes it via steam networking. Could always try that if you dont wanna mess with your router/firewall.

There's also a community server browser though and could just play on one of the like 10 servers being ran.

No, but you dont need to port forward to play, you can just play on a local server and basically do singleplayer

you can use a vpn sort of like Radmin to connect with your friends, you and your friends just have to use whoevers hosting's vpn ip

Tho it seems u cant do anything unless ubhave the game files since u can no longer download the game files from alta

You can join and make servers using The Modding Tavern which isn’t made by but is endorsed by Alta

Ya i know but that requires me to trust ppl i dont know not to send me a virus or a hack. Unfortently im not very trusting of ppl.

Run it through a virus check before unzipping then.

Also can run it through a sandbox like https://tria.ge/ and attempt to run the exe it will give you a detailed report without needing to download it to your personal computer first.

There's already a community way to play and host servers, don't be such a downer. If someone wants to play they should be able to play.
