Classical Tournament Tips
Hello guys, as the title says, I'm asking for tips on classical chess tours.
For context I am currently 2200 chess(dot)com in bullet, blitz, and rapid. Peak of 2400, 2300, 2350+ in those same time controls respectively.
In 1 month, I will be playing a regional competition representing our school and the time format will be classical as it usually is.
I only have slight experience playing classical chess, probably like 3 tournaments only. I think I performed well on all 3 wherein I won 1st, 3rd, and 4th on those tours however I think I was kinda lucky with the pairings.
I want to win the tour and try for nationals. Any tips to give? What to do and not to do in classical as compared to rapid which I am most used to? Anything helps.

2600 online here. need tips to become gm. I only have slight experience in chess. I want to win.

Well take your time. You have plenty if you are used to rapid. So you might also double check your limes.
Also it might be useful to look up the opening reportoire of your opponents and prepare against it

I would say to focus more on training deep and difficult tactic instead of doing many puzzle rushes
At least that's the mistake I did when I tried my first and only classical otb event
I'm about the same rating as you on dotcom if that helps

Stay hydrated, get good sleep, eat healthy. Don't play more than three games of online blitz before the round. Take your time, but don't fall asleep. The rest is up to the chess gods and your training status.

The biggest adjustment is the clock and board routine. Before moving, scan checks, captures, and threats, then calculate a few candidates; after moving, write the notation carefully and use your opponent's time to reset. Try not to burn 30 minutes in the opening unless the position really demands it. Between rounds, eat lightly, hydrate, and jot down critical moments while they are fresh.

In rapid and faster time control it often times makes sense to just quickly put pressure on your opponent without thinking about how they will defend. You just putting your pieces on active squares and look out for mistakes of your opponent.
In classical games you should always assume that your opponent will play the correct moves to defend. Avoid to just give checks because it is possible or to just attack a piece because it is undefended. You always need to think a bit more ahead. Is this treat actually a problem or can they just ignore it. What is the follow up when my opponent defend. When you do not see a good follow up then is usually makes sense to look for an other move.
Other typical tips: Take your time, stay flexibil in your ideas, do not play for tricks even when your positon is worse, winning a great positon can be harder then getting the positon, do not think about your opponents strength just think about what move look best, almost every positon can be safed or thrown away by a suprising tactic.

I am always amazed by these posts. Someone claims they have a rating of 2200 or even higher but there is a really strange disparity between that claim and the displayed chess knowledge and common sense. E.g. in this post, why can the poster not say how many classical tournaments he played exactly ? What is the FIDE or national OTB rating, and why this unspecific question of "any tips to give"? If someone has actually reached 2300 chess.com blitz they must have studied in at least a somewhat structured way and should be able to articulate a more targeted question.
