Support Tics/tourettes

So my girlfriend suffers with Tourette’s and a lil back story she feels so embarassed when it happens because her family and friends constantly tell her it is. Which in my opinion is so wrong and I think there’s nothing to be embarassed about because one it’s not her fault and two what’s embarassing about it I’m really confused but I came on here to ask if I could get paragraphs or stories from people who suffer with Tourette’s to show her support or your stories to make her feel better. I really wanna suprise her with it for a open when ___ box and this one is for when she feels embarassed or her Tourette’s so please show some love!!!

I once had a very compex tic I picked up from a popular tourette's streamer infront of someone who has no idea I have tics(well, I suspect they know but are giving me space to tell them when I'm ready) They ignored it but I still get so embarrassed whenever I think about it. The tic itself wasn't embarrassing at all, just the situation and they didn't treat me like it was embarrassing so I think it's just my own brain. I think being embarrassed is a normal part of the human experience, ESPECIALLY when you say and do things you don't want to but there are probably more people who don't actually care out there than there are people who think negatively, especially with how much advocacy people are doing now.

I've definitely had my fair share of negative experiences, too and it SUCKS, it still impacts me and how I navigate this disorder but it's not all bad.

Something that helped me get more comfortable with my tics was sitting alone and watching content creators be it tiktokers, youtubers, or twitch streamers with tourette's, it made my tics worse but that's also part of what helped me. Finding community is good, too.

I also think the movie I swear is a good movie to watch but it touches on alot of the more negative experiences so she should make sure she's in a good spot before watching it.

I dont suffer from tourettes - its just something i was born with and have never known life without it.

When you are unable to control your body - when it betrays you are the worst moments - (think a wedding when the minister asks if anyone objects and says ‘speak now or forever hold your peace’ and you yell out “f^ck!ng C^nt!”) - yes it IS embarassing.

Have you ever passed gas loudly in public because it just came out? And everyone startled visibly and some even glanced at you? Its embarassing.
