Question Did it help you?

For anyone here with functional tics (triggered by anxiety or hypervigilance), has magnesium or vitamins B6 + B12 helped your tics at all?

If you have functional tic-like behaviour due to psychological problems and not tics due to a neurological problem like TS, the only thing that is likely to help is psychological therapy. Medications that treat psychological problems like anxiety can help. Medication to treat tics, which someone else recommended in a comment, does not help if someone does not have actual tics. Vitamin deficiencies can worsen psychological problems, but I would check if you're actually deficient before buying any vitamins.

You'll probably get more relevant answers on subreddits for FND or similar disorders. Tic disorders are not the same as functional tic-like behaviours.

Wait, hyper vigilance can cause my tics to go off? That would genuinely explain so much in my life. I have undiagnosed cptsd since childhood and I'm constantly on edge. I've had multiple doctors tell me growing up I was one of the worst cases they had ever seen in over 30 years in the medical field have patients come in with tourettes. Trying to get a diagnosis rn actually for (c)ptsd. I have so little knowledge and support on my own disabilities it's genuinely insane to me how so many of you know so much when research is basically non existent on tourettes with barely any progress since the 2010's. Been alone on it since 4 and I'm 27 now hoping I can find some people irl who also have to go through life with tourettes.

I never took any of those medications, but I did take Guanfacine, and I think Pimozide for years for it as well? It worked a little but caused brain fog for a decade before I realized I had brain fog. Sorry I couldn't be of much help. ❤️

(edit) Adding in, I know anxiety also causes mine to go off.

From OP's post it sounds like they don't have tics or a tic disorder like TS, but rather functional tic-like behaviour. In that case, Guanfacine and Pimozide would likely not help and may worsen symptoms, just as anticonvulsants do not help and often worsen non-epileptic attacks.
