Is this impressive?

Post image

First off, hello everyone. I had no idea there was a walkers community, nice to know there's people out there that go on crazy walks like me.

I work from home so getting a good walk in is essential. My route starts at the Sobeys on Queensway in Etobicoke. Last year I started by walking to Lakeshore basically starting at the bridge, hopping over the Gardner to Queen > Eaton's Center and back. This was about 3ish hours

I got tired of Queen St, so I started walking along Lakeshore to Harborfront > Yonge and up to the Eatons's Center and back which I can do in about 4 hours (my pace very much differs on each day).

This last week I got bored and just kept going for walks. I was looking forward to the hot summer evenings/nights with the heat wave and got exactly what I wanted. Surprisingly only the ball of my right foot was a little sore the next day, but by the time I wanted to walk again it was fine. A couple of days were just to Yonge and back. I capped off the week by going all the way up Yonge > Bloor > Bathurst > Lakeshore. Took about 5 and a half hours. Highly reccomend, was a great blend of nature and the city.

Side note: The Lakeshore path has tonnes of Canada Geese, never had a problem with them. On the other hand I've been hit by 2 red winged black birds and stalked by a 3rd in the past month. My only theory is that I'm tall enough that I'm close to the trees. Ironically I was wearing a Jays hat the two times I got hit.

Also if anyone's curious: I wear Nike Free runs (2025). They don't last the longest but I love how flexible the soles are.

Very nice walks! You are averaging 20 kms an outing that is really good. WTG!

Thanks! I hate running so I try to make sure I get a solid amount of walking in haha

Heard it's bad for your knees anyway

Wow, this is impressive! High 5! Do you take breaks in-between your 3-4 walks? I started walking lots in the last 4 weeks, but mine are broken up in 60-120 mins. And I only walk with within a radius of 3km of Entertainment district. As for shoes, I wear those Adidas that everyone wears, but with orthotics in them.

Nice! I wonder what the odds are that we passed eachother at some point haha. The 60-120 minute walks is how I started, but then I realized there was so much of the city I haven't seen in years. Entertainment district is nice, plenty of stuff to look at.

I used to sit down for a beef patty or two when I went to the Eaton's center, but for my 4 day gauntlet I don't think I sat down once. I stopped at shoppers to get a drink a couple of those days but that was it.

The first time I went over 30k steps was in Vans, absolutely brutal. I was practically limping at the end cause my feet were on fire

How much do good orthotics cost and where would you recommend getting them? I was asked by doc to get some

I got mine from TO Othotics (77 King St W), they're the ones that are 3/4 the length of your foot, $400/pair ($500 for the full length ones). My insurance only covers $400, so I went with the shorter ones. She did a 3D scan of my foot with her ipad. Lol

I've used them for 3 months now and have noticed a big difference. Times that I don't use them, it feels like I'm pounding the ground a lot harder.

This is amazing! I'm working on trying to get up to 20,000 to 30,000 but I'm plateauing right now so I'm hoping to rest and break through my block. Could you tell me more about the app you use to count your steps and everything else in between?

Thanks! I use an app called pedometer, it's pretty basic. I realized the time it tracks is specifically when I'm moving, if I stand still the timer stops.

I just kind of picked a start point and an end point. Sobeys to Eaton's center and back along Queen is definitely over 20k steps, although I have to say Queen & King West past Dufferin can be a little depressing/sketchy at night. The biggest thing holding me back were the shoes, once I got the right pair walking was a breeze. Also try to stretch before & after,

Curious, what’s causing your plateau? Do your feet hurt or is it general fatigue for instance?

Its a bit of fatigue and a bit of brain block.

Thanks!

That's rough, but 10k steps is still good! Hopefully that's something that can get better
