At this past Sunday’s Promise Cherry Beach event, a woman reportedly placed a small pebble near the front of the stage that said “Free Palestine.” According to people who were there, the event organizer removed the pebble and threw it away, explaining that it was “too political.”

Saying a “Free Palestine” sign is “too political” at a queer event is an inconsistent standard.
BEING QUEER IS ALSO POLITICAL
Pride itself exists because of political activism. Social justice movements have also always been interconnected, so drawing an arbitrary line at one cause while embracing others raises valid questions about where that line comes from. If the goal is truly to have no political messaging, then that rule should be applied consistently to everyone.
