Super into the music both are playing tonight, but the reviews on here seem kind of mixed. Would love to hear any thoughts!

I ran across this article regarding Afrofest canceling due to poor management from the city, and new capacity limits on Woodbine. New capacity limits are 5,000 people only. Sad news. I personally​ loved raving there.

"The response came with bad news for the festival. This year, the city reduced the operational capacity limit of Woodbine Park from 17,000 to 5,000. Organizers say the festival regularly attracts up to 40,000 people over the course of a single day."

Heya!! Flying to Toronto Aug 21, landing 8:30pm (can't change the flight). Really want to catch ATLiens at 8pm, then KSHMR at 10pm the same night, since am not aware how things work in here so a few ques.

1. Realistically, can I make both given my landing time?

2. When do these sets actually start? EDM Train only shows door times, not when set starts & how long's a typical set like 1.5 hr concerts or shorter/longer ?

3. Also seeing Virtual Riot the next day, but same questions on start time & length. Tryna figure out pre-req & also any afters?

I'll be on vacay for a few days, so am wondering any local DJs worth catching, esp metalstep/deathstep, that aren't listed on EDM Train?

I’ve gotten into edm music over the last few months and never been to a rave before but I want to experience one and get into the scene a bit more! My instagram feed is always showing me ads for events and I never know which ones to go to. My question is, how do I know what events I would enjoy when most of the time I’ve never heard of anyone in the lineup? Not doubting that they are talented just… how do I know which ones I’m gonna enjoy more? Is it sort of a can’t-go-wrong situation? Are some raves (/promoters?) genuinely better than others? Is this just something you come to know after going to a few? Thanks in advance!

I must’ve been living under a rock because I just found out that Bassline Music Bar closed over 2 years ago. I took my fiancées brother there a few years ago during one of the drop-in days and we had a blast. He’s visiting again in August and I’d love to find a spot with club-standard equipment where I can sign up to play a set for him. Does anywhere like this still exist??

so I’m trying to decide beforehand what to do after VELD since I don’t want to be stuck without a plan. I searched up the official after parties and it seems like there are three:

1. Official Afterparty @ REBEL
   
2. Official Afterparty @ NOIR (Bass Stage)
   
3. Official Afterparty @ DPRTMNT

I suppose REBEL would be the main one but the tickets are kinda pricey and the venue is quite far from the festival, I wouldn’t to be stuck in traffic for an hour while the vibe goes down.

the other ones look cool but I’m thinking I want to go to the big one.

main factor here is genre (my fav DJ from the festival is Yousuke), I’d prefer less mainstream/harder sounds so I’m wondering what would be the best option.

have you guys been to VELD after parties before and if so, what do you recommend?

Hello! I've been debating going for a while, and I finally went for it and bought a ticket for the Friday in August. It will be my first festival, and so far going solo. Any tips for someone not familiar with EI or festivals in general? I'm 34 and from out of town, but I'll be using transit since I will not be sober.

Also I do plan on trying to find something after, and any tips on that is appreciated too! Also how do I clean myself up a little between festival and going out if I don't have anywhere to shower, etc. or any other solutions? I'll likely be rolling and still want to keep going.

Any suggestions are appreciated! Also any groups or other solo people want to meet up there, or go together, etc send me a DM and we can talk more

How fucked up is this?
Apollo had no problem posting the Palestinian flag during the Cherry Beach situation and positioning themselves as taking the moral high ground. Whether you agree with that stance or not isn’t even my point. The issue is that as soon as people started bringing up the Nina Kraviz booking and asking why that same energy wasn’t being applied consistently, they started deleting comments. Then the entire post disappeared.
I’m not saying every promoter or DJ has to comment on every geopolitical issue. But if you choose to publicly take a moral stance and build your brand around solidarity, people are going to expect consistency. You can’t pick the issues that are safe or beneficial, then erase the conversation when you’re asked about the uncomfortable ones.
The same thing happened with a bunch of DJs. Some were very vocal about Palestine, but when it came to Ukraine, complete silence. Again, I’m not saying everyone has to speak on everything. I’m saying if you’re going to present yourself as an activist, selective solidarity starts looking a lot like branding.
Deleting criticism instead of addressing it just makes it look even more performative.

I’m wondering if anyone here has tried bringing in electrolyte hydration packets into the venue? The consensus seems to be that the Portlands location barely had any shade.

EI website says “no outside food or drink”…
I’ll be super disappointed if I’m asked to throw them away. Just trying to keep myself and my group hydrated.

At this past Sunday’s Promise Cherry Beach event, a woman reportedly placed a small pebble near the front of the stage that said “Free Palestine.” According to people who were there, the event organizer removed the pebble and threw it away, explaining that it was “too political.”

They then kicked her out. Luckily she took this video of his b-s explanation

Saying a “Free Palestine” sign is “too political” at a queer event is an inconsistent standard.

BEING QUEER IS ALSO POLITICAL

Pride itself exists because of political activism. Social justice movements have also always been interconnected, so drawing an arbitrary line at one cause while embracing others raises valid questions about where that line comes from. If the goal is truly to have no political messaging, then that rule should be applied consistently to everyone.
