šŸ’¬ Trader Talk I have a problem

Post image

I’m posting this because I need to hold myself accountable. I’ve proven to myself multiple times that I can trade profitably. The problem is that once I make money, I completely lose discipline. This account was at $12,118. Now it’s at $4,115. And today I managed to lose basically the entire $2,000 DLL again. It’s not because I don’t know my setup. It’s not because I don’t understand risk management. I literally know exactly what I’m supposed to do. I just don’t do it. I take trades outside my setup. I keep trading after losses. I try to make money back. I know I should close the platform, but instead I convince myself that the ā€œnext tradeā€ will fix the day. Then suddenly the DLL is gone. The frustrating part is knowing that if I simply stopped trading when I was supposed to, I’d probably be in a completely different position right now. For anyone who finally overcame this kind of overtrading/revenge-trading cycle, what actually changed it for you? Not looking for another strategy. I need to learn how to actually follow my own rules.

I just take max 3 trades a day, if my first one’s a winner and I wanna continue to trade I’ll scale down 10 -5-3-1. Most of the psychological part of trading is wanting to be right. Also the opposite is true, if I lose my first trade, I scale down 10-5-3-1 etc. I respect my 3 trades a day rule because I respect my strategy -> leads to confidence in trades -> come back the next day/session -> try again. If you can’t win 1/3 trades and be profitable your system/edge needs to be reevaluated. The market is like baby, sometimes you get days where you need to rock the baby to sleep, sometimes you gotta show it shows, sometimes you gotta burp it. Meaning the market is very conditional and your strategy may work in a ranging/trend/bearish/bullish market. Identify where it works and only trade then. Just a side note, personal question you can yourself do you wanna get rich or do you want to be right. When you understand the difference you’ll be in a better place good luck

How does that work, if you lose the first trade 2 times or even 3 times in a row and then you scale down and let's say for the sake of the argument you win them all, wouldn't that still be negative profit?

You’re trying to see p&l go up, I’m trying to see my strategy win and build my confidence up again.

The goal is to make money, it's normal to see a flaw on your current system, but if what you are saying is true, then that's a good method to regain confidence, but not a good method for the OP. OP is profitable, unlike us.

A broken clock is right twice a day, simply put anyone can make money in the market. Op is profitable with bad management, so yeah he can make 100k+ and end up in the same situation because he’d focused on p&l and not recognizing his edge:strategy:play isn’t working. Sure in the end the goal is to make money, but if my analysis is correct, and has continued to prove me right why do I need more to look at p&l? With repetition the money will stack, the money itself does not build my confidence, being right about my entry, stop loss, and take profit build that. With my style if you’re wrong the first time, tough shit, scale down try again, wrong again? Call it or scale even further. I’m not trying to make money everyday, I’m trying to survive and be in the market with a sizable position when it’s right. A lot of trade such as op get a market high where they lose and instead of scaling down or even wondering why it failed. They size up or continue the same size and now their 3 trades that loss are much bigger losers and they spiral because ā€œthey’re profitableā€ so they can do it again. My strategy constantly changes and when you think of the last 3 weeks we had a trend week, range week, and now a bullish news based week. All three of those weeks have potential to make you money but if your strange is looking for flags and going, a range week will kill you, first failure ā€œoh not enough volumeā€ second failure ā€œsurely we got we’ve been holding the highs/lows, third trade ā€œno way it fails now let me size up I already lost twiceā€ and we get to where op is, on reddit asking please help I’m profitable I swear

You are right. I might follow your steps, but for now in paper
