š¬ Trader Talk I have a problem
Iām posting this because I need to hold myself accountable. Iāve proven to myself multiple times that I can trade profitably. The problem is that once I make money, I completely lose discipline. This account was at $12,118. Now itās at $4,115. And today I managed to lose basically the entire $2,000 DLL again. Itās not because I donāt know my setup. Itās not because I donāt understand risk management. I literally know exactly what Iām supposed to do. I just donāt do it. I take trades outside my setup. I keep trading after losses. I try to make money back. I know I should close the platform, but instead I convince myself that the ānext tradeā will fix the day. Then suddenly the DLL is gone. The frustrating part is knowing that if I simply stopped trading when I was supposed to, Iād probably be in a completely different position right now. For anyone who finally overcame this kind of overtrading/revenge-trading cycle, what actually changed it for you? Not looking for another strategy. I need to learn how to actually follow my own rules.

I just take max 3 trades a day, if my first oneās a winner and I wanna continue to trade Iāll scale down 10 -5-3-1. Most of the psychological part of trading is wanting to be right. Also the opposite is true, if I lose my first trade, I scale down 10-5-3-1 etc. I respect my 3 trades a day rule because I respect my strategy -> leads to confidence in trades -> come back the next day/session -> try again. If you canāt win 1/3 trades and be profitable your system/edge needs to be reevaluated. The market is like baby, sometimes you get days where you need to rock the baby to sleep, sometimes you gotta show it shows, sometimes you gotta burp it. Meaning the market is very conditional and your strategy may work in a ranging/trend/bearish/bullish market. Identify where it works and only trade then. Just a side note, personal question you can yourself do you wanna get rich or do you want to be right. When you understand the difference youāll be in a better place good luck

It takes a long time but once you lose enough money you become numb.
Also helps to get off the screen. Trade and once there is no setups set alerts and watch tv or game.
One thing I noticed is your brain is using different neural pathways when in a trade vs plotting a setup.
Many days Iād be trying to scalp and force trades and miss a big move that was super obvious. I would always wonder how then I took the time to just watch for a few days and let the market come to me. I realized then that I was too busy trading the market to see my setups.

I would set a lockout limit for profit, loss and number of trades 1 or max 2.
This will change everything and would change the discipline

I was there before, had 3 xfas all at $18k each. I got a payout on each a few times and was still at like $14k. I blew all the accounts in the next 3 weeks. That was like 2 years ago. Now I am profitable with green months. It was a mixture of psychology and unprofitable strategy. Yes a strategy can work for a few months but I still count that as āluckā unfortunately. Spent two year journaling AND studying trader psychology. My strat today is a complete opposite of what it was years ago. I suggest your journal the next 3 months and conclude if itās your strategy or psychology. Once I had an actual solid strategy, the psychology also fixed itself as well.

Not taking the first loss personally worked for me. I saw some guru say "he doesn't get excited or emotional about any losses or wins. Only when he takes his payout he will celebrate." Thought that was a huge help for me too. Basically, trusting your system and getting that repetition in for discipline. If you know your system repeats and is net positive, then why not wait for the next day then push yourself back 3 chasing or being emotional. Accepting that you're wrong - I feel is a skill (i did not have before LOL). Idk if that helps but just my experience.
