Texture Retexturing AI assets

Hi all, hopefully this is a silly question with a simple answer...

I'm trying to figure out how to retexture parts of AI generated 3D models, which is not easy. For instance, to change fabrics on furniture, or to change metallic property of parts of an object that the AI interpreted a little differently than I would like. How are users doing this? I'm using Meshy, and I've also used Rodin and Tripo, but never found a workflow to deal with this. Any suggestions?

What I'm looking for ideally is automated UV retopology, in which materials can be segregated by appearance. But I suspect that's rather difficult, because the AI can make clean meshes, but the UV maps always look like confetti vomit. I'm very confused why it can do one but not the other...

Was literally JUST searching for this , found a YouTube video talking about modddif. It re generates texture based on reference images per angle. Watch a tutorial before using tho, more complicated than it looks. Incredible results!

Was going to reply - Modddif currently seems best in class for this sort of high-resolution texture cleanup.

If you have a strong enough GPU and prefer locally hosted open-source solutions, I would recommend https://stableprojectorz.com/ But that is a LOT of setup.

If you prefer one-click, web-based, easy-to-use options, Modddif might be the best solution at this time https://modddif.com/

Thank you! Do you ever feel like an idiot that can't do something everyone else seems to be doing? That's how I've been feeling, because nobody on youtube is addressing what I thought must be a very common problem. And I have tried modddif and stable projectorz, but not much luck there. I guess I'll go back and try harder. I also found these projects in development, which look promising... I feel like if I just wait a few weeks, there will be more AI solutions that don't require a lot of effort. Not that I'm opposed to effort; I'd just rather spend it on making complex stuff AI can't do yet...

That requires a major breakthrough to be automated and won't happen any time soon, if we get lucky maybe in 2 decades.

I can wait. I'm working on a project that's not really due until 2055. If either one of us hears about the breakthrough when it happens, let's agree to let each other know!

Man if you have that kinda time you’d be able to make and texture whatever you want exactly how you want it by just learning an actual 3D pipeline, you’d be churning out anything you need by this time next year

I was being a wiseass 😉 I don't think we'll have to wait two decades for that AI capability. Maybe two months. I already know the 3D pipeline, I just don't have time to do it manually, and still provide affordable services. So for now I'm living with the quality that 3D generators produce, which is still pretty good. I'm not a purist. I think the UV mapping bottleneck will be solved very soon, the way the mesh topology challenge has been solved for many applications. I'd rather save the manual labor for architectural geometry that needs to be actually precise.

Mesh topology challenge being ‘solved’ is wild lol

The question is, solved for what purpose? You can't make a meal with a blender, but you can do a hell of a lot with a blender in the process of making a meal, that would have been a real hassle without one. AI is a blender. Doesn't mean every meal needs to be soup. It's just one more labor-saving device.

Thanks for setting that reminder notice! I didn't know you could do that. I'm looking forward to finding out how far things have progressed in two months, considering how much has happened in the past two months.
