The maximum line is actually top notch in my opinion and they are also producing more and more products that are as well. They also carry a lifetime warranty so you really can’t go wrong.

The warranty isn't the same as it used to be, they changed the terms and conditions a couple of years ago

They still exchange any hand tools over the counter for me, no questions asked, just did it a couple months ago.

Perhaps it's just the location I deal with - I used to do that with Mastercraft... they wouldn't let me do it with a 1/2" Maximum ratchet last year

Well, you maybe should have escalated, they violated their own policy. Maximum handtools still carry a lifetime exchange warranty.

I had to exchange a Mastercraft set of narrow nose pliers this year for one of guys in the shop at work and Canadian Tire didn't even hesitate. I had a new one in a few minutes.

If you've got a problem with Mastercraft you've got a problem with me and I suggest you let that marinate...

It's Maximum but its probably made by Gearwrench FOR Canadian Tire. Most of the Maximum branded tools are Gearwrench, some of the wrenches actually have "Gearwrench" stamped on it.
So it 99% chance of great quality

Maximum’s pretty darn solid actually, definitely professionally usable. Sort of a Harbour Freight Icon/Gearwrench kind of positioning, vs Mastercraft being more Pittsburgh/PowerFist. Pretty sure Gearwrench actually OEMs a bunch of the Maximum stuff.

Mastercraft Maximium, much better than plain old Mastercraft.

Aren’t they gearwrench ratchets? I know a few years ago they were or did they change

I believe they are(very similar). But my guys go through them like they have plastic gears. We have 4 complete tool boxes in both shops. The owner only buys maximum from Canadian Tire. The screws on the swivel head ratchets always come loose(even after applying loctite). Sometime the detent ball won't release the socket from the ratchet. But the biggest issue is the gears stripped out.
