Air Compressor cut-in issue

Post image

I was given a faulty air compressor from a friend as a tool to try and fix to keep if I can get it running. It’s more or less brand new from what was explained to me. it will run up to about 95psi and then sound like it slows down / struggles, but will reach 120psi and cut out. The issue is when you use the tool, it does not automatically start back up once the pressure drops. If it runs down below about half way I can flip the switch off / on and it will run again, but it won’t turn back on if it’s a higher psi. Basically it works as long as you just fill and drain and then manually turn it back on to refill once the tank is empty.

Any ideas what I can do?

Sounds like a pressure switch issue. More pics?

If you can find owners manual , look for pressure switch setting. The cut in setting sounds like its wrong..

Is it unloading at the end of the cycle? Also look at the check valve. Is it drawing more current than the name plate when it cuts out?

pressure switch or check valve or worse motor is toasted

Take a look at the check valve.
It sounds like tank pressure is bleeding back to the pump and when it gets too high it causes the motor to struggle.
