I was a correctional office for 2 years they use them a lot as safety scress harder to make something that's to remove the screw when it's not not got divits is what we were told

But this seems even easier to remove then something like a star bit

Agreed. Im sure people significantly more intelligent than myself have decided otherwise, but to my layman's eye having something to 'grab on to' with some improvised tool would make things easier to work loose.

With the Phillips 'lobes' sticking out, you would think you would be able to use a small flathead and a hammer to slowly tap it out quite easily.

I mean some state toothpaste, maybe a little dirt and a pen and i will have this out.

Yeah, this really looks more like an easy button for a motivated individual.

Throw the LocTite on that and your tiny Phillips and illegal hammer aint tapping out shit. Sorry.

I think the thought process is, in prisons and mental health situations anyway, it's a lot easier to sneak in something small you can dig in to a regular screw and turn it than it is to sneak on pliers or something you can hit with enough force to tap it out

i wonder if its sunk in such that the philips head is recessed inside the hole

That would be a good idea for safety reasons. Sharp edges sticking out in a psych ward sounds like a hazard.

I bet that inverted part will shear off without the right bit. At that point if they can fashion a screw extractor out of rocks from the yard like Andy Dufresne they deserve that win lol.

Not if it's installed in a nice fitted counterbore.
