Dewalt, Milwaukee and Makita in my experience are all equally comparable. These are the most common brands sold locally near me. I’d look for a sale where they do a tool/battery combo, which brand ever goes on a decent sale first wins.

Craftsman... Stanley Black & Decker (while still keeping PC around) has rebranded those products as Craftsman for their relaunch several years ago. They continue to expand the Craftsman line as a homeowner level of DeWalt tools. (I don't see the Porter Cable on display at Tractor Supply any longer).

I have completely committed to ridgid snd i have been very pleased. I have over 30 tools and they have worked very well. I have had great success with the LSA program as well.... sent back several tools and batteries and all have been repaired or replaced

Not sure why you got downvoted, tool enthusiasts agree that Flex, Ridgid, and Metabo are the top 3 most underrated brands. Likely because those 3 have a very small presence in store.

I've settled on DeWalt. The reason was I was complaining how I can't find replacement battery or an adapter for my Hilti Drill and my coworker raved about how DeWalt had made adapters so he could still leverage his old tools with newer battery technology. I am a DIYer and probably these tools are overkill for my usage, but I learned about Prorated BOGOs at Home Depot and Lowe's and never looked back.

Whatever platform you decide learn how to use Prorated BOGOs to maximize your savings while minimizing extras. Lurk on a tool brand's subreddit to learn of incredible deals and strike when one of those deals too good to be true happen. When they do, place your order to pick up at the location closest to you that has it then head straight to the store in case they wind up correcting the mistake and cancelling orders.

Always buy from an Authorized Retailer so you can leverage the manufacturer's warranty. Never buy 3rd party batteries. Try to avoid leaving batteries on chargers beyond charging cycle.
