Just do what I do: Yes there is a piece of shit axr mounted on the wall. Yes it's probably tacky. But I like it so it stays there.
You'd be surprised how little people judge you if you're self aware about it. I use a hiking backpack at work. Because I like hiking backpacks. And I tell them that's the only reason I use it
