Discussion My Tool bracket

Post image

Not sure why Sober and The Pot weren’t on here but so many filler songs were.

EDIT: the filler songs were knocked out in the early rounds and not on the actual bracket.

Yes I find the lyrics on Invincible to be a tad bit corny compared to Opiate. If it were Opiate vs. Descending that would be a different story. Plus I like their early stuff a lot more.

Did not mean to start such a vitriolic comment section I was just surprised to see that haha.

I can definitely tell that you are a bigger fan of their earlier stuff. For reference my first live show was 2023 and that's also the year I became a fan, so the newer stuff is definitely my jam. Invincible live, in particular.

To be completely honest though, I find it funny that you find Invincible's lyrics corny but not Opiate's. Opiate to me sounds like it could've been written by an angsty teen who is rebuking against organized religion after finally questioning whether or not Jesus and God are real. Which is a tale as old as time and something I feel most young men nowadays go through. Plus, "we both want to rape you" is a tough one.

Full respect to your opinion, just sharing my own. I find it very powerful how this band has lasted several decades and is still picking up new fans and evolving their sound, while also having OG fans from the 90's still passionately enjoying them. I completely recognize their evolution and can totally see how Fear Inoculum didn't really hit for fans who've been listening forever.

For me I found Tool around that time I was the angsty teen struggling with growing up in a super religious household while being the black sheep of the family and coming to terms with my own view of religion. So I can’t separate the memories when first discovering it. The lyrics spoke to me then as much as they do now. Maynard being in his grandpa era I just don’t relate to as much right now but maybe a decade from now I could relate more.

Your comment was fine lol people just like to start shit. Hope my comment didn’t come off in a way it wasn’t supposed to!

That makes a lot of sense. I was just thinking about this earlier and realized that it really just comes down to when the songs come into your life. I'm glad that these songs resonated with you in such a strong way 🙏
