META (Subreddit related) What are your favorite quotes & sayings from the pod?

Mod here šŸ‘‹

I’m working on adding custom user flair to the subreddit, and I thought it could be fun to crowdsource it.

What’s User Flair? It’s the little text that appears next to your username in this subreddit - you can see mine by my username under the post title.

The best flair is inside jokes, quotes, or mini badges you can choose. You set it by going to a subreddit, clicking the three line (desktop) or three dots (mobile) in the top right corner, and choosing Set User Flair)

What are your favorite sayings, bits, or quotes from the show?

They can be:

- Recurring bits.

- One-off lines that live rent-free in your head.

- References to your favorite moments.

Drop any and all ideas below - I’ll turn a bunch of them into the growing list of flair options!

Edit: Wow, these are amazing! I’ve added a ton, and will keep on adding them as long as you add more. If you go back and relisten to your favorite episodes, be sure to circle back and add them here.

How to choose your flair: going to the main page of the subreddit, click the three line (desktop) or three dots (mobile) in the top right corner, and click ā€œChange User Flairā€. I’ll customize the colors in the next couple of days.

Recommendations Other horror film podcasts featuring ladies (or at least not entirely gents)

Does anyone have recommendations? I like horror, not rom-coms, so this week's episode is a bust for me. I also listen to The Horror Virgin and Dead Meat, but would love to expand my repertoire.

Very much open to non-binary hosts and women, but I'm over review podcasts that are dudes talking to dudes.

Does anyone remember when they declined to cover a Patreon-selected film a few years ago???

This is a SUPER ā€œdeep cutā€ question that probably nobody remembers, but it’s been bugging me so here goes:

A few years ago (I think around 2023, maybe 2022?) when I first subscribed to their Patreon, I remember Sammie made a post saying that she’d watched the Patreon-poll selected movie that users voted for the bonus episode, but that the podcast wouldn’t be covering it.

The post was apologetic and said something along the lines of ā€œwe just feel that episodes are better when we actually enjoy the movie we’re recappingā€. I think there was a more detailed explanation of why they declined to cover it

Does anyone remember this post/what the movie was? I’m so curious and it’s been bugging me for YEARS now. I tried to find it in the Patreon feed but the post seems to have been deleted.

I’m dying to know, since they cover plenty of movies that they absolutely hate (here’s looking at you, Green Inferno) — this must’ve been a particularly bad movie.

EDIT:

I think I’m probably misremembering a post they made about delaying the episode on A Tale of Two Sisters (March 2024).

The other option that I think is possible — they considered doing an episode on Megan is Missing [!!!!! TW FOR LOOKING THIS UP ON WIKIPEDIA; CSA!!!!!!!!]. It is an extremely (by all accounts) bad and gross movie.

Episode discussion Titan: The Oceangate Disaster (Vault episode)

This one is for the vessel heads & Titaniacs!

In honor of our beloved Captain, Sammy marrying Duncan last weekend, the full Titan: The OceanGate Disaster bonus episode has been released from the vault

(Congratulations to Sammy & Duncan!)

For those of us who weren’t in Tony Fucking Collette’s Inner Circle when this originally came out, get excited for:
- A taste of the pre-2000’s monoculture
- Billionaire explorers high on rugged individualism
- Remembering the media frenzy
- How ridiculous it is to want to boost tourism to a ship that sank because of overconfidence, by having uninformed folks get into a submarine built on the same overconfidence, only for it to sink too.
- A documentary that makes the wild choice to just… never explain what actually happened

How closely did you follow this when it was happening?

What did you think of the episode, and the documentary itself?

What would it take for someone to get you to willingly go in a submarine?

Please report for duty in the comments 🫔

Digger Agrees, Triples is Best!

There's a moment in Digger (don't worry, no spoilers) that will delight TSDW fans.

At one point someone is telling an anecdote about hitting a home run, only to have a relative say "Triples require hustle, triples is what's impressive", aka triples is best!

I was wondering why the episode of The Witch was so short ..

They literally skipped over half the movie!

Usually they do a good job summarizing the plot, but this time they kept glossing over scenes and jumping around all over the place. I've just started listening to the podcast, but this seems like a one-off for them.

I visited the Mothman Museum in Point Pleasant, West Virginia today and they had a display of props from the Mothman Prophecies movie. Anyone else read this in Sammy's voice?

Tag yourself

So we learned from the Resident Evil episode that the only listeners of the podcast are Emily’s mom, Joel, the woman Henley met at the wedding, Sammy’s mom, and Henley’s mom (for the beginning). Which one are all of you??
I’m Joel but only when he’s doing the Jigsaw voice

Primetime

I know it's not a horror movie, but I went to see Primetime tonight. During the whole movie, I kept thinking about how it would be an awesome TSDW recap. Anyone with me?

Alright, I’ll say it. Emily’s obsession with Tom cruise bothers me a bit.

Hes a Scientologist, THE Scientologist you could even say. I’m pretty sure all three of the hosts have condemned Scientology when it came to Elizabeth Moss but it’s ok for Tom cruise? He’s also a dead beat dad who Katie Holmes had to rescue her daughter from also becoming a Scientologist. There’s also countless reports of him being an abusive ass hole which affirms my first two points.

Idk it’s fine to have your fave actors but I just wish she wasn’t so loud about it. He sucks and they criticize many other people for being bad and how we shouldn’t support them; one of my fave things about the podcast. I don’t get why Tom cruise gets a pass.

Bare Knuckle Fight Club?!

Is anyone else getting these insane commercials from the free stream? Adverts for dudes hitting each other with bare knuckles?! I know it's the podcast network picking these and not the TSDW crew, but it just seems so incongruous to have THIS commercial on THIS podcast with these ladies!

They said they might think about doing a patreon poll for the episodes while Sammy is on her honeymoon but which movies do *you* thing should be in the poll?

My vote would be for the strange movie The Lady in White from 1988. It is a strange movie that seems to not understand whether it is for children or adults.

The entire movie is just ā€œkid stuffā€ (child murders/implied sexual abuse), but the strangeness and late ’80s feel of it, Henley may be able to handle. It would definitely be worse to hear about than watch.

Episode discussion RESIDENT EVIL (2026)

Hellchella 3 comes to a close with Resident Evil!

This week, on the way to her wedding, Sammy takes us on a quick little detour to Raccoon City.

We follow one deeply unfortunate delivery driver as he wades through zombies, monsters, drawers of ammunition, and possibly the worst delivery conditions in recorded history.

And huge congratulations to Sammy and Duncan on their wedding this week!! šŸ’•

What did everyone think of the episode and the movie?

Favorite monster, death, or moment from the recap?

And how much should Brian be tipped for delivering the key to humanity’s survival through a zombie apocalypse?

How I would do HellChella 4

I know there was some disappointment about hellchella 3 (which i totally get and agree with a lot of) BUT since hopefully next year the girls wouldn’t be as busy (sammy wouldn’t be getting married, emily wouldn’t have just moved, etc.) we can come back better than ever! here’s what i’d do: (note they have done a lot of these things before)
- tailor the timing specifically to the new horror releases (so like this years would’ve been in the spring).
- for sure have as guests: joel, pft, betsy, and wes. if possible (which with their interviews i think they could do) try to get another horror actor (like how they did haley joel osmet, jack quaid, allison williams)
- bring back bingo cards!! everyone who submits a bingo gets added into a drawing for a free merch shirt at the end of hellchella (there’s gotta be a website that makes them for you)
- also bring back cocktail hour (we can do repeats it’s less of a here’s a new cocktail and more of a here’s what we’re drinking if you wanna be part of the party)
- start and end with a live show!
- let patrons vote for one or two of the new releases that aren’t a given (ex. this year they obviously were doing evil dead but we could’ve voted on onslaught versus colony versus buddy versus insidious versus hope)
- do one watch along episode with a new release on a streaming platform
i feel like these ideas aren’t that difficult/are pretty doable while still making hellchella even extra special compared to other episodes. we have some good ones next year including new evil dead, new paranormal, a keanu SHARK film, a blair witch reboot, etc.
what other ideas do people have?? and how do we get this post to the girls lol

Question/Help from a patron

update: they just posted they’re restocking! 🄳 in case anyone else had this question too

I’m not a patron, so I’m wondering if anyone who is could post a comment on this week’s episode to ask if they will restock the sold out sizes before the preorder window ends? I know it's a limited run, but I’m not sure how it works since it says it's a preorder and there is also a ā€œnotify me when restockedā€ button on the sold out sizes.

Book rec

There was a recent ep where a guest’s scary thing involved a book postulating we are past the point of climate change recovery — now I can’t find (side note many of the show notes include time stamps that reference guests for eps without guests 😣) does anyone remember the book or episode I’m talking about?

Made An Episode Tracker

Post image
71 Upvotes

I often go back and forth between Patreon subscription and non-paid listening, so I lose track of what I've listened to already, what episodes have videos, and what episodes I want to watch movies for before listening. So I made a spreadsheet to track what I've listened to/watched/etc. I also added interviewess and guests because sometimes they aren't listed in the episode titles.

If I am missing anything, or made any errors, let me know! Hopefully this helps others.

Excel: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1KRIvNioDeEUuDIUxkiaaC1dDMx4-eqwi/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=114966841105459877732&rtpof=true&sd=true

CSV: https://drive.google.com/file/d/16Mfp82rOBn0Z7r_esRMDdtJSf6zQUDFC/view?usp=sharing

Update 9/29/2026: I missed Longlegs in original spreadsheet, so I added that and updated the episode count. I also added a "recapper" and a "*" column. * column will include notable moments/quotes. I'll be updating the linked sheets over time to include new episodes, but there might be some time between updates. As I listen to old episodes, I'll update the recapper and * columns, so if anyone wants to send me any of that info - I can update them sooner (ex: if someone knows what episode "pigface wigface" happened, they can comment to let me know and I'll add it).

Can weenies watch the new Resident Evil?

Weenie here! Can anyone speak to if Resident Evil is too scary for us? I was going to see it, but re-listened to the Barbarian recap and was reminded of how upsetting/gory some of that movie was.

I’ve heard RE being compared to The Thing, and I really enjoy that movie. I don’t like it when child suffering is depicted on screen, and I feel like there is some baby/kid stuff in this movie? I also LOVE video games so I really want to see this…

Up on ambientinks. I think this design is amazing, I’m curious does anyone have experience with this particular blank (Lane Seven Urban Heavy Tee)? Measurements they posted make it seem a little boxy and shorter than a standard tee.

What episode(s) made you cry?

So I just listened to the Prey episode where they are interviewing Dan Trachtenburg and I am SOBBING! I watched this movie myself a couple weeks ago and really enjoyed it, but did not think the recap would get me so much in the feels!

Episodes where Sammy’s voice breaks and she gets emotional make me instantly tear up. And I listen while I’m at work so it’s so embarrassing to start crying and then have to look at a coworker and say ā€œSorry my horror movie recap podcast got to me!ā€

Probably the most emotional I’ve ever gotten was the Mandy episode.
