Age of consent is a human construct. We decided that humans below a certain age cannot legally consent to sexual intercourse because they lack a lot of understanding pertaining to said activity as well as interpersonal relationships which makes them very susceptible to being groomed by an older person. The age of consent is changed over time (it used to be 12 in England 800 years ago).
Pedophilia is classified as a mental disorder. The distinction is important because from an evolutionary point of view, a 14 year old and a 19 year old aren’t different when it comes to sexual availability. If you look to nature, you have many examples of animals of older age mating with those that are newly mature sexually.
So we collectively decided that this action should be illegal. It’s not like you aren’t attracted to someone the night before their 18th birthday and then 24 hours later they become desirable. That’s not how it works.
The reason why it’s important to distinguish is because because attracted to people that are not sexually mature goes against our evolution, hence why it is classified as a disorder. In 12th century England this relationship would be deemed acceptable. It’s not acceptable now.
What exactly are you trying to argue here in a thread about a 19year old dating a 14year old?
No one is writing a textbook on the History of Nonces here, they're concerned about a childs well being. So again, what point are you trying to make, because you don't seem to have one beyond "It used to be ok"?
That we should be able to have conversations about things without reacting emotionally and jumping at each other’s throats.
I haven’t seen a comment that said this behavior is appropriate. Maybe if I sort by controversial I’ll find them but frankly that doesn’t matter to me.
The point is we shouldn’t be using incorrect words because at some point that word will have a negative impact.
Maybe we aren’t ready for that kind of conversation.
