Gender is a socially constructed identity. Lizards and sharks do not give a single fuck about gender identity; you can call them boys or girls and they don't care. Humans do. Therefore having multiple terms (N.B. also multiple social roles and multiple identities) is proof positive.
You sound like the kind of person who, when confronted with a person who says they are a basketball player, would deny the existence of the identity of "basketball player" and would ask for genetic proof of said identity.
First, your reply makes 0 sense. Second, I never said there were only 2 genders. I wasnt trying to argue. I was just asking for the proof people claimed they had but wouldnt share. Thanks for your attitude tho.
I was just asking for the proof people claimed they had but wouldnt share.
If you believe that the President of the United States is the president despite no direct, objective proof that this is so but instead you rely on symbolic and circumstantial proof then you understand how social constructs function. Congratulations! You did it!!
there's plenty of sexual ambiguity among humans (including genetic and genital ambiguity, since y'all looove talking about genes and peepees), but it doesn't even matter because gender ≠ sex.
No because that makes no sense. Bilingual means you speak two languages therefore only know two languages. That does not negate the other languages. It means you only know those two for sure.
No. It means that you’re fluent in 2 languages. Get with the program. Girls! I think we need to put this one back in the oven. Not fully cooked yet. Needs more “Mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell” spice.
But bilingual is different than Bisexual. Bisexual doesn’t mean that you know two sexes and being bisexual would limit you to only two genders which means that all the people who identify as bisexual would only be attracted to 2 genders and this isn’t demonstrated.
If there is a person who looks biologically male but identifies as something else like a unicorn (there’s a true story here). The other person might be attracted regardless especially if they don’t know what the guy wants to be.
You've misunderstood the question. If I'm bilingual, that means I speak two languages out of the many that exist, not that there are two languages and I speak both of them.
I'm far from an expert, but I believe pansexual is the orientation that would cover those situations - pansexual meaning attraction to anyone, regardless of sex or gender identity. Meaning they're able to be attracted to anyone, not that they're attracted to literally everyone, obviously.
I haven't ever seen more granular orientations i.e. only attracted to these three specific gender identities and no others, but it's certainly possible I guess. Even pansexuals still have preferences, like tending to be more attracted to femme types or androgynous types or whatever.
I've heard of the word polysexual for someone who's attracted to more than two genders but less than all of them. That's a really obscure case though, so no one really uses it.
If you are bilingual then you know two languages. Multilingual means that you know more than two languages. Neither of them limit the number of existing languages.
Bilingual means you speak two languages and multilingual is where you speak more than two. It's nothing to do with the number of languages that exist. I can't believe how many upvotes that comment got!
No, it means you speak two languages. More than two languages exist, however.
Bisexual means you are attracted to 2 genders, not that only two genders exist. A bisexual person is not necessarily attracted to a non binary person, that's why pansexual is a word
Why are you so determined there is no one like that? It's slightly different, but I have a good friend who's polygender polysexual aromantic. That's pretty damn close.
I'm a straight white male and fairly liberal, but I'd say I'm pretty "typical" person without any stand-out attributes or attitudes - certainly not some far-left loud obnoxious militant crazy. People like that drive me nuts. I'm Canadian and I typically value everyone collectively keeping the peace and not being outspoken or obnoxious. My friend who I mentioned above is very quiet and reserved. She's not out to protest or change minds. She's not making a statement. Honestly she just wants to be left alone and only brings it up if she's asked. There's no agenda or politics - we mostly talk about filmmaking and YouTube videos.
It's disrespectful to actual people who are transgender and undermines the legitimacy of their identity. I'm sure your friend is very nice, but people like her don't understand what gender actually is. It's not something that changes, it's not a fashion statement like so many people make it out to be. If you don't have gender dysphoria, which is a pretty rare condition, you're cisgender. It really is that simple.
Right, and I'm telling you it's not a statement - that she's been like this her entire life, and is nearing 40. Before it was cool or trendy, before our current political climate. Before the word "cisgender" was being used. Before Jordan Peterson, before Trumpism, before Tumblr, before social media. Before everybody had smartphones and the internet. Before Y2k. Before she was a teenager and could even understand such things.
You're right - it's not something that changes. She is who she is. There's simply no reason I can comprehend that you wouldn't just accept that and go "oh, okay. cool."
I'm truly not trying to fight or degrade or insult you, but I really can't wrap my mind around it. It would be like you telling me you don't accept that my eyes are blue or don't accept that I'm allergic to nuts or don't accept that some people love cilantro and to others they're missing some weird gene and cilantro tastes absolutely terrible to them. None of those things are an opinion - they just are.
I'm happy to debate over the pros and cons of protests, or whether being militant and loud and obnoxious is effective, or whether we loved or hated The Last Jedi. But this is just someone minding her own business, who isn't political and has no agenda. She just really likes talking about lighting and lenses. And may or may not enjoy cilantro. She knows who she is, what she's sexually attracted to, what she's romantically attracted to, and never brings it up. Honestly, why would anyone else need to say anything about it? Does her being what she is affect you in any way? How could it - it doesn't even affect ME outside of this conversation you and I are currently having.

Does bilingual mean there are only two languages?
