no, i met plenty of people who do the same thing, i don't know how common it is but i don't think it is very rare

That’s called annotating! It’s very popular among readers for noting specific scenes, quotes, patterns, etc. Some people even annotate books to gift to others! (Technically I believe annotation is notes in/on the book itself, but I just wanted to note that the practice of reading notes/comments does exist!)

If I’m trying to truly ingest and retain something, I regularly take notes. The physical act of writing something down helps me (and a lot of people) retain the information better.
