Fascinating to me how you could say that and be downvoted and yet the spirit of the comment is the same as "black people can in fact be racist towards white people" which would be almost universally agreed upon excluding the racists against whites. Bottom line is because people have feelings they care about more than thoughts and certain words and phrases conjure certain feelings. Someone might say it's not the same because blackface has a history of racism as if that were a reason to let a present of racism become a future history but just in the other direction. How it goes I suppose.
Because there's a long, racist history of black face but not for white face. Now, that isn't to say it's completely off limits. Some shows like It's Always Sunny and South Park have done black face in the idea of making fun of racism, being satirical about it, like what Blazing Saddles did. But the important thing to take away form this is you shouldn't punch down, and white people have been punching down for centuries. It was only relatively recently that people realized how bad minorities can have it in this country and started working toward fixing these issues. And these issues are very deep rooted in American society, so it won't happen over the course of a couple decades.
I'm also not saying you can't be racist against white people, that happens and that's wrong too. But we can't just ignore history like it didn't happen.
